BTCC is an offshore crypto futures exchange that says it has operated since 2011, and it ranks #8 on my list with a score of 7.0 out of 10. Its Canadian entity, BTCC Canada Limited, is a FINTRAC-registered money services business, but BTCC is not on the CSA's authorized list, and its own help article says Ontario and Quebec are restricted. Spot fees at the base VIP level are 0.20% maker and 0.30% taker, and its markets list shows 112 spot assets. Use it for futures if you accept the risk, not as your main place to hold crypto.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its own help article says its terms list Ontario and Quebec among restricted jurisdictions. No Canadian investor protection applies. It still suits experienced futures traders who accept that risk and keep their core holdings on a registered exchange.

Is BTCC Legit And Safe For Canadians?

BTCC is a real, long-running exchange, but it is not a Canadian-regulated platform. When I evaluate any offshore exchange as a Canadian, I look at two things first: regulatory standing and operational track record. On regulation, BTCC Canada Limited is a FINTRAC-registered money services business, which is an anti-money-laundering registration and not a securities registration. BTCC is not on the CSA's list of authorized crypto platforms and is not a CIRO member, so none of the investor protections that come with Restricted Dealer status apply.
The wrinkle is access. BTCC's own academy article says its current terms list Ontario and Quebec among restricted jurisdictions, though the Terms of Use page I could read does not name Canada at all. That is why I treat eligibility as something you must confirm before you deposit, not something to assume. The page also warns that eligibility can change.
BTCC describes its security as asset segregation, multi-signature cold wallet storage, one-to-one asset storage, encrypted communication, two-factor authentication and login history. It publishes a Proof of Reserves page. I could not verify reserve ratios or an incident-free record from a primary source, so I do not quote them. Practical steps: turn on two-factor authentication, set up withdrawal address whitelisting if offered, and start with a small test withdrawal.
What Is BTCC's History And Track Record?
BTCC says it has operated since 2011, which makes it one of the oldest names in crypto. It began life as BTC China, one of the first Bitcoin exchanges in China, and it was one of the best-known Chinese platforms before China's 2017 crackdown forced Chinese exchanges to stop trading. After that BTCC moved outside China, rebranded and rebuilt as a global platform, which is the business that Canadians deal with today. Surviving that shutdown, the 2022 bear market and the FTX collapse is a real point in its favour. A long history is not the same as regulation, though, and I could not verify from a primary source claims about user counts, award lists or an unbroken security record, so I leave them out.
| Period | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 2011 | Founded as BTC China, one of the early Bitcoin exchanges in China |
| 2017 | China's crackdown forces Chinese crypto exchanges to stop trading |
| After 2017 | BTCC rebuilds outside China as a global platform and rebrands as BTCC |
| 2020 | BTCC Canada Limited receives its FINTRAC money services business registration (initial approval May 27, 2020) |
| Recent years | Copy trading, a demo account, a Proof of Reserves page and TradFi derivatives added |
| 2026 | FINTRAC registration shows as active until October 15, 2027 |
What Security Measures Does BTCC Describe?
BTCC says it protects user assets through asset segregation, multi-signature cold wallet storage, one-to-one asset storage, encrypted communication, two-factor authentication, login history and internal and external security testing. It also links a Proof of Reserves page from its menu. Those are the claims, and a claim from the company is not an audit. I read them as a reasonable baseline, not as a guarantee.
What you control matters more. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app. Use withdrawal address whitelisting if it is offered, so that an attacker who gets into your account cannot send coins to a new address. Check the login history now and then. Never click links in messages that claim to be from BTCC, and use a password you do not use anywhere else. Finally, withdraw what you are not actively trading to a Canadian exchange or a personal wallet. Not your keys, not your coins applies to every exchange.
How Do Canadians Fund A BTCC Account?

BTCC's site shows card funding in USDT with Visa or Mastercard, and crypto deposits. I could not verify Interac e-Transfer or direct CAD funding on BTCC, so I do not list them. Crypto deposits are the method many experienced Canadian traders prefer: send USDT, BTC or ETH from a Canadian exchange or wallet to your BTCC address, and use the cheapest network. Card and third-party funding carry provider fees, so compare before you pay.
There is no direct CAD withdrawal that I could confirm. The route out is the usual one: sell to USDT, withdraw the USDT to a Canadian exchange like NDAX or Kraken, sell it for CAD there and withdraw by Interac. This extra step is the main friction point. Withdrawal fees depend on the blockchain network and change with congestion, so check the live withdrawal page, make a small test withdrawal first and always pick the right network. Sending USDT on the wrong network can delay or lose funds.
How Much Does BTCC Cost?
At the base VIP 0 level, BTCC's fee schedule shows spot trading at 0.20% maker and 0.30% taker, and futures at 0.03% maker and 0.055% taker. Higher VIP levels get lower rates based on account value and trading volume. BTCC advertises zero fees on TradFi pairs and a monthly 0% fee on select coins, but promotions change, so confirm before you trade.
| Exchange | Spot Fee | Canadian Status |
|---|---|---|
| BTCC | 0.20% maker / 0.30% taker | Offshore, FINTRAC MSB |
| BloFin | 0.1% spot | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada |
| MEXC | 0% maker / 0.05% taker | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada |
| NDAX | Flat 0.20% | CSA-registered, CIRO investment dealer |
| Kraken | Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker, Instant Buy 1% | CSA-registered |
The spot fee is a weakness relative to offshore competitors like BloFin and MEXC, so BTCC is not where I would do active spot trading. Where it is competitive is futures at the base level. It matches NDAX's flat 0.20% on the maker side but not on the taker side.
What Features Does BTCC Offer?

Futures Trading
This is BTCC's specialty and the main reason it exists for Canadian traders. No regulated Canadian exchange offers futures to retail users the way BTCC does. It lists USDT-margined, USDC-margined and coin-margined perpetual futures, with leverage up to 250x on popular TradFi derivatives and, on its markets page, up to 500x on selected contracts. Advanced risk tools include isolated and cross margin, stop-loss and take-profit orders.
A candid note on high leverage: at 250x, a 0.4% adverse move against your position can liquidate your entire margin. At 100x, a 1% move does the same. High leverage amplifies losses as readily as gains. The demo account is the right place to start, regardless of experience.
TradFi: Tokenized Stocks, Commodities And Forex
BTCC lists derivatives on traditional assets such as stocks, commodities like gold and silver, and forex pairs, all traded through a crypto account, and advertises zero fees on TradFi. These are leveraged derivatives on the price of the underlying asset, not ownership of actual stocks or commodities.
Copy Trading And The Free Demo Account
BTCC has futures copy trading, where you follow lead traders and mirror their positions. Review each trader's statistics, particularly maximum drawdown and track record across market conditions, before following. Past returns do not guarantee future performance.
The demo account is one of the genuinely useful features: 100,000 USDT in virtual funds and the full futures interface without risking real money. For anyone new to futures, learn order entry, position sizing, leverage and liquidation in the demo first. It costs nothing, while the real-money learning curve can be expensive.
Spot Trading
BTCC's market list shows 112 spot-enabled assets, all USDT-denominated. That is smaller than Kraken or MEXC but covers mainstream trading needs. Futures, not spot, is its strength.
Campaigns
BTCC runs promotions for its traders, from welcome rewards of up to 30,000 USDT on its homepage to seasonal competitions and monthly zero-fee coin campaigns. Read the conditions and the withdrawal terms before you rely on one. A bonus is not a reason to deposit more than you can afford to lose.
How Do You Get Started On BTCC Safely?
- Check eligibility first. Read BTCC's current terms and its Canadian help article. If you live in Ontario or Quebec, BTCC says it is restricted.
- Register and verify. Use only btcc.com, set up two-factor authentication and finish identity verification before you deposit.
- Open the demo account. Practise placing orders, setting stops and watching liquidation prices with virtual USDT.
- Fund with a small amount. Send a small test deposit of USDT from a Canadian exchange, on the network BTCC lists, and wait for it to arrive.
- Make a test withdrawal. Send a small amount back to your Canadian exchange before you trade any size.
- Trade small and use stops. Keep position sizes small relative to your balance and set a stop-loss on every position.
- Withdraw profits regularly. Move what you do not need for margin back to a registered exchange.
How Does Leverage Actually Work On BTCC?
Leverage lets you control a position larger than your deposit. With 10x leverage a deposit of $100 controls $1,000 of exposure, so a 1% move in your favour earns 10% on the margin you put up, and a 1% move against you loses 10%. If the loss reaches your margin, the exchange closes the position, which is liquidation. Higher leverage means a smaller move wipes you out. In isolated margin mode, which exchanges generally offer, only the margin assigned to that position is at risk. In cross margin mode, your whole futures balance backs the position, so one bad trade can drain the lot. Check which margin modes the order ticket on BTCC offers before you trade.
Funding payments are another cost that surprises beginners. Perpetual futures have no expiry, so exchanges use periodic funding payments between longs and shorts to keep the contract close to the spot price. Holding a position for days can cost or earn you funding, depending on which side is crowded. Look at the funding rate on the contract page before you hold a position overnight. My earlier article mentioned MetaTrader 5 integration, and I could not find it on BTCC's current site, so I am not listing it. TradingView charts are linked from the site.
How Does Copy Trading Work, And What Should You Check?
Copy trading mirrors another trader's positions in your account in proportion to the amount you allocate. The appeal is obvious for beginners, and so is the risk: you are copying someone whose risk tolerance you may not share, and whose past results may have come from one lucky run. Before you follow anyone, look at maximum drawdown, not only return, because a trader who made a lot but nearly blew up along the way will do it again. Look at how long they have traded, how many positions they open at once and how they behaved in a falling market. Check what share of profits goes to the lead trader. Start with a small allocation, set a limit on losses, and review the trader regularly. Past returns do not guarantee future performance.
What About BTCC's Wealth Management And Earn Products?
BTCC's menu lists a wealth management product that its homepage describes as principal and interest guaranteed with a high advertised annual rate. I could not verify the terms, who stands behind the guarantee or what conditions apply, and a headline rate on an offshore exchange is a marketing number. Yield products at an offshore exchange carry counterparty risk on top of the risk of the underlying asset. Read the full terms, the lock-up and the conditions before you put money in, and keep any such amount small. For a yield on coins you hold, compare with staking on a CSA-registered platform.
How Are Crypto Gains And Futures Profits Taxed In Canada?
The CRA treats crypto as a commodity, and whether your profits count as capital gains or as business income depends on your activity. Frequent futures trading is more likely to be treated as business income. Keep a complete record of every deposit, trade, funding payment and withdrawal, because offshore platforms rarely give you a Canadian tax report. Tools like CoinLedger and Koinly can import exchange data. See my guide to crypto taxation in Canada, and talk to a tax professional if your trading is active.
How Does BTCC Compare To Other Exchanges Available To Canadians?
BTCC is a futures-focused platform with a long history. Its spot fees are uncompetitive and CAD access is unverified. The other offshore platforms on my list are in the same regulatory position, and the registered ones give you protections that none of them can.
| Exchange | Score | Canadian Status | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| BTCC | 7.0 | Offshore FINTRAC MSB | Offshore futures traders |
| BloFin | 9.6 | Offshore Terms prohibit Canada | Low fees on altcoins and futures |
| MEXC | 7.0 | Offshore Terms prohibit Canada | Small-cap altcoins |
| NDAX | 7.8 | CSA-registered, CIRO investment dealer | Low flat fees and cheap cash-outs |
| Kraken | 9.2 | CSA-registered | Beginners, then Kraken Pro |
| Coinbase | 9.8 | CSA-registered | First-time buyers |
What Is The BTCC App Like?
BTCC has apps for iOS and Android. The App Store shows 4.32 stars from 1,010 ratings in Canada, and Google Play shows 4.3 stars from about 18K reviews, a global count. The apps cover market data, futures and spot trading, copy trading, deposits, withdrawals and account management. For beginners, the demo mode inside the platform is the best place to learn the order screens before real money is involved. As with any trading app, set your own limits: confirm order size and leverage before you tap, and turn on biometric login so a lost phone is not an open account.
How Does BTCC Customer Support Work?
BTCC's footer lists live chat, an issue report form and an email address, plus a support centre and a trust centre. Routine questions about deposits, fees and platform use are the kind of thing live chat handles well. Account-level disputes are the weak spot across offshore exchanges, so keep screenshots and transaction IDs for every deposit and withdrawal, and escalate in writing. Do not give anyone who contacts you first your codes or your account details.
What Does BTCC's Referral Program Offer?
BTCC lists a referral program in its menu that pays rewards when friends sign up and trade. The terms are set by BTCC and change, so read the conditions on its page. If you want to use mine, the sign-up link in this review is how I am credited, and it does not cost you anything extra. The bonus is never a reason to deposit more than you planned.
How Does BTCC Make Money?
Like other derivatives exchanges, BTCC earns mainly from trading fees on spot and futures, funding and liquidation mechanics around perpetual contracts, withdrawal fees, and its VIP, copy trading and product programs. That is not a criticism, but it is a reminder that an exchange that earns on volume has an interest in you trading more. Zero-fee promotions and bonuses are designed to bring in volume. Trade because you have a plan, not because a promotion is running.
What Are The Biggest Complaints About BTCC?

Spot fees are not competitive. The 0.20% / 0.30% base spot fee is the most consistent substantive criticism that is not about customer service. Traders who mainly trade spot will find lower prices at BloFin or MEXC, or the same cost at NDAX with Canadian protection.
No confirmed CAD route. The round trip from CAD deposit to CAD withdrawal needs at least two platforms. Each step has timing and cost. For a frictionless in-and-out experience with Canadian dollars, that is a real limitation.
Support and disputes. Public reviews of BTCC on Trustpilot are mixed: some users praise usability and demo trading, while others complain about withdrawals and account restrictions. That pattern is common across offshore exchanges, and because no Canadian regulator oversees BTCC, you have less recourse if something goes wrong.
Scam awareness. A well-known brand is a common impersonation target. Fake websites, Telegram groups claiming to be support and social media impersonators are active. BTCC will not contact you unsolicited to verify your account or request funds. Only use btcc.com directly, and see my guide to common crypto scams in Canada.
What Should You Ask Before Depositing On Any Offshore Exchange?
I use the same short checklist for BTCC and every other offshore platform. Is it allowed in my province, according to its own current terms? Who is the legal entity I am contracting with, and where is it? Can I get my money out, and have I tested that with a small amount? What happens to my funds if the company fails, and is there any independent proof of reserves? What am I paying in spreads and funding, not only in headline fees? And how much am I willing to lose completely? If you cannot answer those, you are not ready to deposit. For BTCC the answers are mixed: a FINTRAC-registered Canadian entity and a long history on one side, provincial restrictions, no CSA registration and an unconfirmed CAD route on the other.
Who Should Use BTCC, And Who Should Not?

BTCC is built for Canadians who need futures access, want to trade tokenized traditional assets alongside crypto in one account, or want a long-running platform with a demo account. It is not for spot-focused traders who want the lowest fees, or anyone who needs direct CAD withdrawal.
Pros
- You are an experienced futures trader who wants a proven platform and a demo account
- You want TradFi derivatives alongside crypto in a single USDT account
- You want to practise futures for free before risking money
- You are exploring copy trading and will study each lead trader's drawdown
- You are comfortable moving CAD in and out through a registered Canadian exchange
Cons
- You want low-cost spot trading: BloFin and MEXC are cheaper, and NDAX gives you Canadian protection
- You need direct CAD withdrawal
- You live in Ontario or Quebec, where BTCC says it is restricted
- You need Canadian investor protections: use Coinbase, Kraken or NDAX
- You want a large altcoin selection for spot buying
What Is A Sensible First Week On BTCC?
Spend the first days in the demo account, placing and closing orders until liquidation prices make sense. Then send a small test deposit of USDT, make one small real trade with a stop-loss, and withdraw the proceeds to a Canadian exchange to confirm the route works end to end. Only then consider size, and keep it small enough that a total loss would not change your month. If a step surprises you, stop and find out why before adding money.
Is BTCC Worth It For Canadians In 2026?

My honest view: BTCC's history and futures toolset are its strongest arguments, and I score it 7.0 out of 10. The spot fees, unverified CAD route, provincial restrictions and lack of Canadian regulation hold it at #8. If you are a futures trader who wants a demo account, copy trading and TradFi in one place, it is worth evaluating. Use the demo first, turn on every security setting at sign-up, and fund it from a Canadian exchange so you stay in control of the on and off ramps. Keep your core holdings on a registered exchange like NDAX or Kraken, and use BTCC only for futures exposure that you cannot get there. You can sign up through BTCC. Take the exchange quiz or ask in r/OCryptoCanada.
What Changed For BTCC In October 2026?
- FINTRAC's registry shows BTCC Canada Limited (M20713346) as registered until October 15, 2027.
- BTCC is still absent from the CSA's authorized list, which was last updated September 18, 2026, and from the banned list.
- BTCC's own help article says its current terms list Ontario and Quebec as restricted jurisdictions.
- BTCC's market list shows 112 spot-enabled assets and 352 enabled markets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is BTCC Legal And Safe For Canadians?
BTCC Canada Limited is a FINTRAC-registered money services business, but BTCC is not on the CSA's authorized list and has no Canadian investor protection. Its own help article lists Ontario and Quebec as restricted. Turn on every security setting, test a small withdrawal and keep your core holdings on a registered exchange.

I could not verify Interac or direct CAD funding. BTCC's site shows card funding in USDT, and crypto deposits are supported. Most Canadians send USDT from a registered Canadian exchange.
Can I Withdraw CAD From BTCC?
I could not confirm a direct CAD withdrawal. The usual route is to withdraw USDT to a Canadian exchange such as NDAX or Kraken, sell it for CAD and withdraw by Interac.
What Are BTCC's Trading Fees?
At the base VIP 0 level, spot is 0.20% maker and 0.30% taker, and futures are 0.03% maker and 0.055% taker. Higher VIP levels pay less. Promotions such as zero fees on TradFi change, so confirm before you trade.
Does BTCC Have A Demo Account?
Yes, with 100,000 USDT in virtual funds for practising futures trading. Use it before you risk real money.
How Many Coins Does BTCC List?
BTCC's market list showed 112 spot-enabled assets and 352 enabled markets, including perpetual-only markets, on October 1, 2026.
How Much Leverage Does BTCC Offer?

Is BTCC Better Than BloFin Or MEXC?
On my list BloFin scores 9.6, BTCC 7.0 and MEXC 7.0. BTCC has higher spot fees than both, and its edge is its demo account, copy trading and long history.
How Is BTCC Taxed In Canada?
The CRA decides capital gains versus business income case by case, and active futures trading leans toward business income. Keep complete records and ask a tax professional if you are unsure.
