SafePal Wallet Review 2026: Is It Safe And Worth It?

The SafePal wallet is a reliable option for securely storing your cryptocurrencies. As I often recommend based on my experience since 2016, the best way to protect your crypto is to move it off exchanges and into a private wallet. Self-custody means only you have control over your assets.

Even the largest crypto exchanges are not immune to risk. Hacks can steal funds, and as we saw with FTX, exchanges can collapse and leave customers unable to withdraw. That is why I always recommend withdrawing your crypto from exchanges into a wallet like SafePal.

SafePal offers three kinds of wallet: two hot wallets, a mobile app and a browser extension, and a hardware wallet. The hardware wallet is the safest because it is completely offline. It stores your private keys offline, eliminating the risk of online hacking, so that is the one I recommend.

What Coins Does The SafePal Wallet Support?

SafePal says its hardware wallets support 200+ blockchains, and the S1 holds as many coins and tokens as those networks carry, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano and Dogecoin. My original review described it as supporting unlimited cryptocurrencies across 54 networks, so the network list has grown a lot. What I appreciate most is that you are not limited to a fixed number of coin apps on the device.

How Does The SafePal Wallet Work?

App wallets, also called software wallets, store your private keys on your device. Since your phone is connected to the internet, that can expose your private keys to theft. That is why I prefer hardware wallets like SafePal's S1, which store your private keys entirely offline. When you make a transaction, you verify it on the device itself.

A common misconception: your cryptocurrency is not actually stored in the wallet. Your crypto resides on the blockchain, and the hardware wallet stores the private keys and lets you verify transactions. That also means a lost wallet does not mean lost crypto. Buy a new one and enter the seed phrase from the old one during setup to regain access.

How Do You Use The SafePal Hardware Wallet?

When you first power on the wallet you can create a new wallet or restore one. If you lost a previous SafePal, choose restore and enter the seed phrase you already have. If you are setting up a new wallet, SafePal generates a unique seed phrase. This step matters most: write it down on paper and store it securely. Never photograph it or save it to a computer or the cloud.

For durability against water or fire you can store the seed phrase in SafePal Cypher. To make transactions, download the SafePal app. A card in the box has a QR code that takes you to the app in your app store. The app then prompts you to set up fingerprint or FaceID protection.

Once the app is set up you add networks and tokens. SafePal came preloaded with the Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance networks in my test, so ERC-20 tokens need nothing extra. Since Ethereum is already active, adding Ethereum-based tokens is just a matter of entering the contract address. To send, select the asset, enter the recipient address and amount. To receive, copy your wallet address and share it.

2. Enter your PIN on the device.
3. Scan the QR code the device then shows with your phone.
4. Tap broadcast in the app.

At first the multiple steps to sign a transaction might seem tedious, but I appreciate how it prioritizes security. The air-gapped signing means the hardware wallet does not connect to your phone or computer through Bluetooth or USB. For me that independence adds significant peace of mind, and it makes the extra steps feel worth it.

What Is In The SafePal Wallet Box?

In my original review the box held the hardware wallet, a USB cable, a cleaning cloth, two stickers, a mnemonic phrase card, a download app card and a user manual card. Check SafePal's store for the current contents of the model you order.

Is The SafePal Hardware Wallet Safe?

I consider it one of the safest options for storing crypto. SafePal's store lists a CC EAL6+ chip, PIN and passphrase protection, a self-destruct mechanism, device authentication and anti-tampering protection. The S1 page lists 100% air-gapped signing and open-source key generation code. It does not connect to the internet through Bluetooth or WiFi, which cuts the risk of remote attack, though the newer X1 does use Bluetooth.

The key to keeping your crypto secure is writing down your seed phrase and storing it safely. Even if you lose the hardware wallet, you can buy a new one and restore access with that phrase.

How Much Does The SafePal Wallet Cost?

The S1 is on the cheaper side of hardware wallets at USD 49.99 on SafePal's official store, with the X1 at USD 69.99 and the S1 Pro at USD 89.99. Always check the price on the official site, since it changes. My original review said the S1 cost about CAD 85 at the time.

How Does SafePal Compare To Ledger And Tangem?

SafePal and Tangem are the budget picks. SafePal's colour screen lets you check transactions on the device, while Tangem uses your phone. Ledger costs several times more and gives you a premium touchscreen, Bluetooth and a desktop app. Both Ledger Wallet and Trezor Suite have built-in exchange features, and a major advantage is that crypto bought there goes straight to your own wallet without KYC. What Are The SafePal Downsides?

The hardware wallet has very few downsides. Making a transaction involves several steps, since you switch between the app and the device. I see that as a small trade-off for air-gapped signing. SafePal also does not have a built-in exchange like Trezor and Ledger, so it is not an all-in-one setup, which does not bother me if you already have an exchange you trust. And it is designed to work with its mobile app, which may be inconvenient if you prefer a computer.

How Is SafePal Customer Support?

SafePal has received some poor customer service reviews with complaints about lost or undelivered funds. Many of these seem to stem from user error or scams rather than the wallet itself. SafePal has a support team and a troubleshooting section on its website, and I have never had any issues with it.

Is SafePal Worth Buying In 2026?

SafePal is an excellent choice for crypto users who are new to hardware wallets. It is affordable, compact and works with your phone for signing transactions. I picked it as my top recommendation for the best crypto wallet for Canadians in my original review, and my ranking of wallets has changed since then, so read that page for the current order. Seasoned investors who want maximum security might lean toward Ledger or Trezor, which have a longer track record. SafePal says it was incubated by the first Binance Labs incubation program, which I treat as background, not a reason to trust it. The S1 is completely offline, which is perfect if you do not trust Bluetooth or wired connections.

Has SafePal Had Security Problems?

Here is every documented security issue I could confirm for SafePal, newest first, with what it meant for owners and what was done about it.

• Aug 16, 2026: Customer order information accessed. An authorization flaw in an order-tracking plugin let others view order data for orders from March 2 2025 to April 11 2026. About 39,798 customers had name, email, shipping address, phone and purchase details exposed; seed phrases, keys and payment data were not; phishing risk, and SafePal says it saw claims of the data for sale. SafePal fixed the flaw, notified customers by email, hired outside investigators and reported phishing-site takedowns. (source)
• Feb 16, 2021: Kraken Security Labs findings on SafePal S1. Kraken found a firmware downgrade attack and tamper-detection weaknesses, disclosed to SafePal on November 18 2020. Physical access needed; Kraken did not steal funds but said future compromise might be possible. SafePal released firmware V1.0.24 to fix the downgrade issue. (source)
