These two tie at 7.0 on my list, at 8 and 9. Both are offshore, neither is on the CSA list, and neither has a CAD route I could verify. The differences are narrower than the scores and more serious than the fees.
BTCC Vs MEXC: Which Is Better For Canadians?
For most Canadians, MEXC is the better choice (it wins on published trading fee, coins available). BTCC is best for offshore futures traders.
BTCC and MEXC are offshore: not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and their terms restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies.
Every row below comes from each company’s own pages and the Canadian registries, checked October 2026. Where a row has no fair winner, it says so.

MEXC
Description
BTCC is a futures-focused crypto exchange operating since 2011. It has a Canadian arm, BTCC Canada Limited, registered with FINTRAC as a money services business, but it is not on the CSA list of platforms authorized to serve Canadians and its own Canadian guide says Ontario and Quebec residents are restricted.
MEXC is a large offshore exchange known for a huge altcoin list and zero maker fees on spot. It is not registered in Canada and its User Agreement names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction, so Canadians are not permitted to register or trade.

Copy trading and demo trading: Futures copy trading and a demo account are offered.
VIP program: Fee discounts, priority support and higher withdrawal limits by VIP level.
MEXC Only
Futures: Futures maker fee 0%. Not available to Canadians because Canada is a prohibited jurisdiction.
What Happens To Your Money If BTCC Or MEXC Fails?
BTCC: BTCC Canada Limited is registered with FINTRAC, which is an anti-money-laundering registration, not a securities registration or investor protection. BTCC is not on the CSA list, is not a CIRO member and CIPF never covers crypto. If BTCC fails or freezes your account you have no regulator-backed claim. Its own guide notes some withdrawals face risk or compliance review, and public feedback mentions withdrawal and account-review complaints. High leverage futures can liquidate a position quickly.
MEXC:MEXC is not registered with the CSA, is not a CIRO member and has no FINTRAC MSB registration, so no Canadian regulator oversees it. It is not on the CSA banned list either, but it prohibits Canada in its own terms, so an account opened from Canada can be frozen with funds inside. CIPF never covers crypto. Insurance and proof of reserves were not verified. If the exchange fails or is hacked, a Canadian has no regulator to turn to.
How Are BTCC And MEXC Treated For Tax In Canada?
BTCC: Spot sales, crypto-to-crypto trades and futures settlement are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export or CRA-ready report was verified, so keep your own records of trades, fees and transfers.
MEXC: Spot sales and crypto-to-crypto trades are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export was verified, so rebuild records from trade history.
Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.
Which Should You Choose, BTCC Or MEXC?
Choose BTCC If
You live outside Ontario and Quebec and want offshore futures: BTCC is the one in this group with a Canadian FINTRAC-registered arm.
You want regulator protection or CAD funding: use a CSA-registered platform instead.
Choose MEXC If
You want a huge altcoin list: MEXC bars Canada, so compare registered Canadian dealers instead.
Is BTCC Or MEXC Better For Canadians In 2026?
BTCC, narrowly, and only by one criterion: there is a Canadian company behind it. BTCC Canada Limited holds FINTRAC MSB M20713346, valid to October 15, 2027, and BTCC says it has operated since 2011. MEXC has no FINTRAC match and its user agreement names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.
But BTCC is not a safe option either. It is not on the CSA list, restricts Ontario and Quebec residents per its own guide, and gives no CAD route. See my BTCC review and MEXC review.
Which Costs Less When You Actually Trade?
MEXC. Spot is 0% maker and 0.05% taker, which is CAD 0.50 on a CAD 1,000 taker order. BTCC's spot is 0.2% maker and 0.3% taker at VIP0, so CAD 2.00 to 3.00. On futures, BTCC charges 0.03% maker and 0.055% taker, and MEXC shows 0% maker.
Neither lets you fund with CAD, so each number sits behind a purchase made somewhere registered. BTCC has VIP discounts and MEXC a 0.04% taker with its MX discount.
Which Has More Coins And Which Has More Futures?
MEXC lists about 1,425 spot base assets and BTCC about 112 spot assets, with 352 enabled markets including perpetual-only. For a small-cap hunter that is not close. For futures, BTCC advertises leverage up to 500x on selected USDT-M and Coin-M contracts, plus copy trading, demo trading and a VIP program.
Choosing between them on coin count means choosing the one with the more serious terms problem. That is worth pausing on.
Which Is Safer For Canadians?
Neither has CIPF, a CIRO membership or a CSA registration. BTCC's FINTRAC registration is anti-money-laundering only, so if BTCC freezes an account you have no regulator-backed claim, and its own guide notes that some withdrawals face risk or compliance review. MEXC bars Canada outright, so an account opened from Canada can be frozen with funds inside.
On proof of reserves, both are unverified on a page I could check. On leverage, a 500x contract can liquidate you on a small move.
Who Should Choose BTCC And Who Should Choose MEXC?
I would not push either. If you are set on offshore futures and live outside Ontario and Quebec, BTCC is the one with a Canadian arm, and you should still treat it as a place to trade, not to store. If you want a huge altcoin list, MEXC is cheaper and also off limits. The registered route starts at the Coinbase sign-up page, and the best crypto exchanges in Canada lists more.
How Do The Apps And Support Compare?
BTCC's iOS app is 4.32 on the Canadian App Store from 1,010 ratings and 4.3 on Google Play from 18K global reviews. MEXC is 4.74 from 1,908 ratings and 4.6 from 313K. BTCC has a Support Centre. MEXC's support was not verified on a primary page.
French UI is not verified on either. Ratings measure the app, not whether a withdrawal clears.
What Should You Check Before Depositing Anything?
Read the current terms yourself, not a summary of them. Look for the residency clause, and check what the platform says it does with accounts it finds out of area. Then test with a small withdrawal before you send an amount you would miss.
Keep balances low and withdraw what you are not trading. Both platforms are custodial, and I could not verify proof of reserves, insurance or cold storage share for either.
Does A Tie At 7.0 Mean They Are Equal?
No. The score blends fees, assets, app quality and features, and a tie means the strengths and weaknesses cancel, not that the risks match. MEXC is cheaper and larger, BTCC is older and has a Canadian company. A reader who weights legal standing most will land on BTCC, and one who weights cost most will land on MEXC, which is exactly why neither should be the default for a Canadian.
My rule is simple: if the platform's own terms restrict where you live, treat every other number on the page as secondary.
