Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

To buy Bitcoin with Interac e-Transfer in Canada, open an account on a registered platform, verify your identity, choose Interac e-Transfer as the deposit method, send the money from your bank, then place a buy order. The deposit is free on every platform in my ranking that takes it, and it usually lands in minutes. The real cost is the trading fee or spread, which runs from a flat 0.20% at NDAX to about 2% at Bull Bitcoin.

Pick the platform by what you want next. If you want one app for everything, take Coinbase or Kraken. If you want Bitcoin sent straight to your own wallet, take Bull Bitcoin.

  • Highest score: Coinbase (9.9/10), free Interac e-Transfer and EFT
  • Cheapest published fee: NDAX, flat 0.20%
  • Bitcoin to your own wallet: Bull Bitcoin, no minimum or maximum on e-Transfer deposits

BloFin, BTCC and MEXC rank in my top ten but do not offer verified CAD funding, and BloFin and MEXC list Canada as a restricted location in their own terms, so Interac is not an option there.

How Do You Buy Bitcoin With Interac E-Transfer?

  1. Open and verify an account. Expect to give your name, address, date of birth and a photo ID. Registered Canadian platforms are required to check who you are.
  2. Add your bank as a payment method. On most platforms the app shows you an Interac e-Transfer email address or a Request Money prompt. Use only the address shown inside your logged-in account.
  3. Send the transfer from your online banking. Send exactly what you plan to deposit. Check your bank's daily e-Transfer limit first, because it is often lower than the platform's.
  4. Wait for the balance. Kraken says instant to one business day, NDAX 0 to 30 minutes, Bull Bitcoin about an hour in business hours.
  5. Place the buy order. A market order fills now. A limit order waits for your price and, on platforms with maker and taker fees, can cost less. Read the preview, which shows the fee or spread.
  6. Withdraw to your own wallet when you are ready. Send a small test amount first. Network fees apply.

Why Is My Interac E-Transfer Crypto Purchase Blocked Or Delayed?

Most failures come from three places. The bank's own daily limit is lower than what you are sending. The bank flags the recipient as a crypto business and holds or rejects the payment. Or the transfer went to an address that is not the one shown in your account. I wrote up the bank side in Can Canadian Banks Block You From Buying Crypto?. If the money has left your account and not appeared, contact the platform's support with the transfer reference rather than sending it again.

One safety rule: never send an e-Transfer to a person who promises to sell you crypto, and never to an email address that arrived by message. Real exchanges give you the deposit address inside the app.

What Does The CRA Need To Know About Crypto I Buy?

Buying with dollars is not a taxable event. Selling, trading one coin for another or spending it is a disposition, and half of a capital gain is included in income under the CRA's current rules. Keep the date, amount and CAD value of every purchase, because that is your cost base later. My crypto taxation guide covers the details, and how to buy cryptocurrency in Canada compares the platforms on more than funding.

Which Platform Should You Use For A Large Deposit?

E-Transfer limits cap out around CAD 10,000 per transaction at most platforms, so larger amounts usually go by wire. Newton lists wires up to CAD 1,000,000 and free funding, Kraken takes a domestic wire from CAD 100 with one to five business days, Shakepay takes wires from $10,000 with no maximum, Bull Bitcoin accepts CAD wires with no minimum or maximum, and Bitcoin Well offers cash vouchers up to CAD 4,950 a day at a 4.0% spread. Call your bank before the first large wire, because it will ask about the destination.

What Changed For Interac Crypto Buying In October 2026?

  • Kraken received its CSA Restricted Dealer decision and announced free Interac e-Transfer deposits for Canadians.
  • Newton was admitted to CIRO membership as an investment dealer.
  • Wealthsimple updated its crypto fee schedule: 0.5% flat plus spread, Active Trader tiers down to 0%, and a CAD 1 charge on orders under CAD 100.
  • Kraken republished its fee schedule with Pro spot fees from 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
