Every score on OCryptoCanada is my own editorial judgement as a Canadian crypto trader, out of 10. I weigh each platform against the factors nearly 1,000 Canadians told me matter most, led by safety at 41% and fees at 21%, and I check the facts behind every score against the platform’s own pages and the Canadian registries every month. Affiliate links never buy a position or a score.

What Do I Score Crypto Exchanges On?

The weights come from my survey of nearly 1,000 Canadians, which asked what matters most when choosing an exchange.

  • Safety And Security41%
  • Fees And Spreads21%
  • Coin Selection14%
  • Compliance With Canadian Laws8%
  • Ease Of Use7%
  • Customer Support3%
  • Brand Reputation2%
  • Deposit Methods2%
  • Staking Opportunities1%
  • OTC Desk1%

The score is not a formula output. I use the weights to decide what to look at first, then judge each platform as a whole: what I saw testing it, its registration status, its published fees, how it handles CAD in and out, and its security record. That is why an offshore exchange with very low fees can rank high for active traders while carrying a clear offshore warning.

How Do I Score Hardware Wallets?

Wallets are judged on what protects your keys: the secure element and how open the code is, how you back up and recover, how easy it is to confirm what you sign, the maker’s security record, and whether a Canadian can buy it from an official store. My own coins sit on a Trezor Safe 7 and a Tangem card.

What Changes A Score?

  • Registration changes: a CSA, CIRO or FINTRAC decision, a suspension or a ban moves a score the same month.
  • Fee changes: a new fee schedule, such as Robinhood’s move from 0.5% to 0.95% on November 1, 2026, is reflected on every page.
  • Security incidents: a breach, theft or disclosed flaw is added to the platform’s security record. A serious one can remove a recommendation: I stopped recommending Coldcard after its July 2026 seed-generation flaw.
  • Leaving Canada: a platform that stops serving Canadians loses its score and its sign-up links, and its pages point to my top pick.

Do Affiliate Links Affect The Scores?

No. Some links on this site earn a commission, explained in my affiliate disclaimer. Platforms cannot buy a position or a score, and several wallets I score highly have no affiliate link at all. How each article is researched and corrected is in my editorial policy.

What Has Changed In My Scoring Lately?

  • : Exchange scores updated and wallet scores introduced across the site.
  • : VirgoCX marked as no longer serving Canadians after its OSC registration suspension took effect on November 24, 2025.
  • : Coinkite disclosed the Coldcard seed-generation flaw that led me to stop recommending Coldcard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Decides The Scores On OCryptoCanada?

I do. Every score is my editorial judgement, checked against each platform’s published facts every month.

Can An Exchange Pay For A Higher Score?

No. Affiliate commissions never buy a position or a score.

Why Does An Offshore Exchange Rank So High?

Because of fees and features for active traders. Every offshore pick carries a warning that it is not registered in Canada and offers no Canadian investor protection.

How Often Are Scores Updated?

The facts behind them are rechecked monthly, and a score changes as soon as registration, fees or security change.
