The CoolWallet Pro is a credit-card-sized hardware wallet that pairs with your phone over Bluetooth. CoolWallet lists it at USD 149, with a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element, 35+ blockchains and over 12,000 custom tokens. It has no desktop app that I could find, so it lives on your phone, and it has a small rechargeable battery. I tested it. It is a convenient pocket wallet with a wide coin list, and the main caveat is that the product range around it looks like it is shrinking: the older CoolWallet S appears to be discontinued.
- Best for: Canadians who want a slim, phone-only wallet that covers many chains and tokens
- Skip it if: you want a screen on the device itself, a desktop app, or a clearly documented open-source codebase
- Price: USD 149 for the Pro, USD 69 for the CoolWallet Go, USD 199 for the Pro and Go bundle
- Where it sits: not in my top 7 wallets for Canadians, which is led by the Trezor Safe 7 and the Tangem
- PriceUSD 149 (CoolWallet Pro). CoolWallet Go USD 69 (NFC, no battery), Pro plus Go bundle USD 199. Free global shipping over USD 299
- Secure ElementCC EAL6+ certified secure element; all signing done on device, only encrypted results sent over Bluetooth
- ConnectionBluetooth (encrypted, must be within 10 m of the authorised phone); contact charging
- Backuprecovery seed written by hand on included recovery phrase cards (2 cards in the box)
My #1 pick: before you buy the CoolWallet Pro, look at the Trezor Safe 7 (9.6/10), the wallet I use and rank first for Canadians.

What Is The CoolWallet Pro And Who Is It For?
Think of it as a hardware wallet that looks like a bank card. It is 0.8 mm thin, it fits in a wallet, and you operate it through the CoolWallet app on your phone rather than on a screen of its own. The company behind it is CoolWallet (CoolBitX), and it also sells the CoolWallet Go, a USD 69 NFC card with no battery.
That phone-first design is the point and the compromise. It is quick to use on the go, and you can carry it anywhere. But the approval step is on your phone app, not on a dedicated screen on the card, so you are trusting what the phone shows you more than you would with a wallet like the Ledger Flex or the Trezor Safe 7. The physical display and button details are not stated in the text I could fetch, so I will not claim a feature I cannot source.
The CoolWallet S needs a note. CoolWallet's homepage still shows it with a Buy Now link, but its product page redirected to the homepage when I checked, so I treat it as no longer purchasable. This review is about the Pro.
How Secure Is The CoolWallet Pro?
CoolWallet says the Pro uses a CC EAL6+ certified secure element, all signing is done on the device, and only encrypted results are sent over Bluetooth. It also needs to be within 10 m of the authorised phone. That is the same certification level Ledger and Trezor describe for their chips, though I cannot name the exact chip from CoolWallet's pages.
What I cannot confirm: whether the firmware is open source, whether the Pro supports a BIP-39 passphrase, and whether it has a Bitcoin-only mode. The pages I checked say nothing on those points, and I do not list them as features. If a passphrase or open code is a must for you, ask CoolWallet first, or pick a wallet that documents it. I found no confirmed security incident for CoolWallet in my research.
Backup is on paper: you write the recovery seed by hand on the two recovery phrase cards in the box. Use both, keep them in separate places, and never photograph them.
How Much Does The CoolWallet Pro Cost In Canada?
USD 149 for the Pro on CoolWallet's site. The Go is USD 69 and the bundle of both is USD 199. Free global shipping starts at USD 299, so a single Pro will pay for shipping. CoolWallet's pages do not say whether it ships to Canada or whether duties apply, so confirm it at checkout before you commit. Under CBSA rules, courier shipments from countries other than the US or Mexico are duty and tax free only up to CAD 20. I could not find the duty rate for a hardware wallet, so ask the courier.
Buy it from CoolWallet directly. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says to buy hardware wallets from the manufacturer, and a card-shaped wallet is exactly the sort of product scammers copy.
How Do You Set Up The CoolWallet Pro?
I do not have CoolWallet's official step-by-step setup guide in my sources, so here is what its product page confirms, not a walkthrough from memory.
- Charge it. The card charges by contact, and CoolWallet says about 2 hours (its FAQ also mentions 4 to 6 hours).
- Install the app. CoolWallet App runs on Android 7.0 or later and iOS 15.6 or later.
- Pair over Bluetooth. Keep the card within 10 m of the authorised phone.
- Write the recovery seed. Use the two recovery phrase cards and write by hand.
- Test small. Receive a small amount, send it back out, and only then move a serious balance.
On battery, CoolWallet says about 2 weeks at 2 transactions a day, with standby up to 3 months. If you leave it in a drawer for half a year, charge it before you need it.
Does The CoolWallet Pro Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Yes, as a self-custody address. Generate a receive address in the CoolWallet app and withdraw to it. Since June 1, 2021, FINTRAC's Travel Rule means Canadian exchanges collect information on transfers of CAD 1,000 or more. Coinbase has a "Sending to myself" checkbox, NDAX shows a "Who are you sending to?" prompt above CAD 1,000, Kraken shows a Travel Rule pop-up, Newton needs the address saved in its Address Book first and Wealthsimple Crypto allows external withdrawals within its limits.
Moving crypto between wallets you own is not a taxable disposition, the CRA says. Keep your records for at least six years. See my guide to crypto taxes in Canada for the rest.
Which Coins Does The CoolWallet Pro Support?
This is where the Pro is strong. CoolWallet lists 35+ blockchains, over 12,000 custom tokens across ERC-20, BEP-20, TRC-20, SPL, Jetton and Sui standards, and ERC-721 and ERC-1155 NFTs. Native staking is offered for ATOM, SOL and XTZ. For Canadians holding Ethereum, Solana and a mix of tokens, that is a wide net for a USD 149 wallet. Check that your exact token is supported in the app before you transfer it.
What Changed For CoolWallet Pro Recently?
- : CoolBitX announced the discontinuation of the CoolWallet S, with app support and warranties continuing for existing owners (CoolWallet).
- : CoolBitX launched the CoolWallet Go, a card wallet sold with a lifetime warranty option (PR Newswire).

Is The CoolWallet Pro Worth It For Canadians?
It is a fair pick if you want a slim phone-based wallet and a long coin list, and you are happy to charge a card now and then. It is not my first choice. My top 7 are all easier to document and to buy in Canada, and the two at the top, the Trezor Safe 7 and the Tangem, are the ones I keep my own coins on.
A practical way to think about it: if your coins are a few hundred dollars across several chains and you mostly want to sign from your phone, the Pro fits. If you hold a larger balance in Bitcoin you rarely touch, a wallet with a screen on the device and a documented open-source codebase is the safer habit. And whichever you choose, do not leave the whole balance on one device with one paper backup. Split it, test a restore, and write down where each card lives.
For the full ranking, read my best crypto wallets in Canada list. To see how it measures up against the market leader, there is a head-to-head page, CoolWallet Vs Ledger. If you decide to buy, go to CoolWallet's own site.
Has CoolWallet Had Security Problems?
I found no documented breach, recall or disclosed vulnerability affecting CoolWallet wallets in primary sources as of October 2026. That is not a guarantee, so keep your firmware updated and buy only from the maker.
