Strike Review For Canadians

Status Notice: I could not confirm that Strike serves Canadian residents. The country list on Strike's own availability page does not include Canada, and I found no Canadian registration for it. I do not rate it. If you want a Strike-style Bitcoin app that does work in Canada, start with Bull Bitcoin or Shakepay. This review is a status check, not a sign-up recommendation.

Strike is not available to Canadians as far as I can verify. It is a Bitcoin app that sells Bitcoin, sends payments over the Lightning Network and offers Bitcoin-backed loans, and it says it operates in more than 100 countries. But the list on its "where is Strike available" page does not name Canada, and I found no sign that it holds a Canadian licence.

Search results for "strike canada" are also full of labour strikes, which has nothing to do with this page. If you came for Canada Post or Air Canada news, you want a news site, not a crypto one.

  • If Strike will not open for you: that is the expected result for a Canadian address, not a glitch
  • Closest Canadian options for Bitcoin only: Bull Bitcoin (9.4/10 in my ranking) and Bitcoin Well (9.0/10)
  • Simplest regulated app: Coinbase (9.9/10)
Strike In Canada, Status Check Of October 2, 2026
QuestionWhat I Found
Is Canada on Strike's availability list? No. I read the list on strike.me/faq/where-is-strike-available on October 2, 2026 and Canada is not on it
Does Strike claim a Canadian registration? Not on its homepage, which talks about SOC 2 Type II auditing, segregated reserves and 100+ countries. I found no mention of Canada or the CSA
What does Strike sell?Bitcoin purchases (including recurring buys from $1), sending Bitcoin, bill pay and cold-storage withdrawals, plus Bitcoin-backed loans in USDT and a line of credit
How did it price non-US buys?At its November 2023 global launch, non-US users paid 3.9% on debit card deposits, according to Strike's own announcement
Is it on my ranking? No. I only rank platforms that Canadians can legally open an account with

Can Canadians Use The Strike App?

Probably not, and I would not try to work around it. Strike's homepage and its Bitcoin purchase announcement describe a long list of countries, but when I read the availability page, Canada was missing. Strike also never says that it is authorised by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), which every exchange I recommend to Canadians has to be, or at least be a registered FINTRAC money services business.

Opening an account with a platform that does not serve your country is a good way to get frozen later. Platforms close accounts when they find a mismatch between your residence and their terms, and the money can sit in limbo while they sort it out. That is why my ranking labels offshore platforms clearly.

What Does Strike Offer?

On its homepage Strike describes buying Bitcoin with no minimum and fee-free recurring purchases, sending Bitcoin anywhere, and borrowing USDT against Bitcoin. It says it launched Bitcoin-backed loans in May 2025 and a Bitcoin-backed line of credit in March 2026, and that customer Bitcoin is fully reserved and segregated from corporate funds. Those are Strike's own claims. I have not tested the app, because I cannot open an account from Canada.

If the loan side is what interests you, there is a Canadian-registered route now: Shakepay Credit Inc. is on the CSA's authorized list as a crypto-backed lending platform (decision of April 9, 2026). I cover the other big name in Bitcoin-backed loans in my Ledn review for Canadians.

What Are The Best Strike Alternatives In Canada?

For a Strike-like experience, meaning Bitcoin only, simple and built around sending coins to your own wallet, Bull Bitcoin is the closest match, and Bitcoin Well adds cash and ATM options. For a broader app, my ranking puts Coinbase first. The full comparison, with fees, is on my best crypto exchanges in Canada page.

Is It Legal For A Canadian To Use An Unregistered Crypto Platform?

The legal burden is mostly on the platform, not on you. FINTRAC says that anyone dealing in virtual currency, meaning exchange or transfer services, is a money services business and must register before operating in Canada, and that running an unregistered one is an offence. But your own risk is practical: no Canadian investor protection, no local complaint route, and a real chance of frozen funds. That is why I only recommend registered platforms, and label the offshore ones.

How Do The Strike Alternatives Compare On Cost And Limits?

Bitcoin Buying Costs And Limits At The Canadian Alternatives, October 2026
PlatformPublished CostInterac And LimitsOther Notes
Bull BitcoinNo fee, spread about 2% on the live quote of October 1, 2026Interac e-Transfer deposits have no minimum or maximum; withdrawals CAD 10 to 10,000 and freeNon-custodial, Bitcoin only, pays bills with no processing fee
ShakepayNo fee, spread 0.5% to 2.0%Minimum $5, maximum $10,000, funds in minutes; wire from $10,000Bitcoin and Ether; USDC deposits convert to USD

CoinbaseUp to 1.875% plus spread on simple buysFree Interac e-Transfer and EFT; bank limits apply200+ assets, CSA Restricted Dealer

None of these is a clone of Strike. Strike's pitch is cheap Bitcoin, Lightning payments and loans in one app. In Canada you assemble that from separate pieces: a registered exchange for buying, your own wallet for Lightning, and Shakepay Credit or Ledn for loans. That is a little more work, and it keeps you inside platforms that serve Canadian residents.

What Are The Risks Of Using A Platform That Does Not Serve Canada?

The first risk is the account itself. If a platform's terms exclude your country and it discovers a Canadian address, it can freeze or close the account, and getting funds out can be slow. The second is protection. A registered Canadian platform gives you a legal entity to complain to and, at CIRO investment dealers, CIPF coverage for cash, although not for crypto. An unregistered platform gives you neither. The third is paperwork: FINTRAC's rules put the registration duty on the business, and a platform that skips it is breaking Canadian law, which tells you something about how it treats other rules.

None of this means Strike is a bad company. It may well be excellent for the customers it does serve. It means I cannot tell you it is safe for a Canadian to use, and the honest answer to "is Strike available in Canada" is that I could not confirm it and its own list says no.

How Do You Check Whether Strike Or Any Platform Serves Canadians?

  1. Read the platform's country list. Strike publishes one on its availability FAQ. If Canada is missing, stop there.
  2. Check the CSA's authorized list. The Canadian Securities Administrators list the crypto platforms authorized to do business with Canadians, with decision dates, and a separate banned list.
  3. Check CIRO and FINTRAC. CIRO lists the dealers it regulates, and FINTRAC publishes a registry of money services businesses.
  4. Read the terms for a restricted-location clause. Some offshore platforms, such as BloFin and MEXC, name Canada in theirs.

What Changed For Strike In Canada In October 2026?

  • Strike announced buying Bitcoin in 36 countries with debit cards, with plans to expand to 65 or more, and a 3.9% fee on debit card deposits outside the US.
  • Strike says it launched Bitcoin-backed loans, borrowing USDT against Bitcoin.
  • Strike says it launched a Bitcoin-backed line of credit.
  • The CSA and Ontario Securities Commission granted Shakepay Credit Inc. a time-limited exemption to run a crypto-backed lending platform in Canada.
  • Canada is still absent from the country list on Strike's availability page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Strike Available In Canada?

I could not confirm it. Canada is not on the country list on Strike's own availability page as of October 2, 2026, and I found no Canadian registration for Strike. Check the app store listing and Strike's support team directly before you try to fund an account.

Is This Page About A Labour Strike?

No. It covers the Strike Bitcoin app. Questions about the Canada Post or Air Canada strikes are news stories and belong on a news site.

What Is The Best Alternative To Strike In Canada?

For Bitcoin only, Bull Bitcoin, with free Interac e-Transfer and delivery to your own wallet. For a regulated all-round app, Coinbase tops my ranking at 9.9 out of 10.

Can I Borrow Against My Bitcoin In Canada?

Yes. Shakepay Credit Inc. is on the CSA's authorized list as a crypto-backed lending platform, and Ledn serves most provinces. Read the liquidation terms before you borrow.

Does Strike Work Over The Lightning Network?

Strike describes sending Bitcoin and fiat-over-Lightning transfers in its own announcements. That does not change whether you can open an account from Canada.

Do I Pay Tax If I Use A Strike Alternative?

Selling or spending Bitcoin is a disposition under CRA rules, so a capital gain or loss applies. Half of a capital gain is taxable. Keep a record of every transaction.
