Read This First: Three of these funds are Canadian-listed and two are not. ETHX.B, ETHH and ETHR trade on the TSX. QETH and EZET are US-listed funds on the Cboe exchange, so a Canadian needs a brokerage account that offers US-listed ETFs. I do not score ETFs, and none of this is personal advice.
The cheapest Canadian-listed Ethereum ETF by management fee is CI Galaxy Ethereum ETF (ETHX.B) at 0.40%. Evolve's ETHR charges 0.75% and Purpose's ETHH charges 1.00%. But the management fee is not the whole cost: CI's own fund page shows a 1.14% management expense ratio for ETHX.B and Purpose shows 1.42% for ETHH, both as of June 30, 2026, because staking and operating costs are inside them.
The two US-listed funds, QETH and EZET, are cheaper on paper at 0.25% and 0.19% as published by data providers, but you buy them in US dollars.
- Lowest Canadian management fee: ETHX.B, 0.40%
- Staking built in: ETHX.B and ETHH both run staking programs

The ".B" in ETHX.B marks the Canadian-dollar unhedged series. Hedged series try to cancel the effect of the US dollar moving against the Canadian dollar. Unhedged series do not. Check which series your broker shows.
What Does ETHX.B Stock Represent?
ETHX.B is the ticker for the Canadian-dollar unhedged series of the CI Galaxy Ethereum ETF. It holds Ether, and Galaxy Digital Capital Management acts as sub-advisor while CI manages the fund. CI describes it as an alternative mutual fund, a category that may use strategies conventional funds are not allowed to. It is not an ETF that holds companies, and its value follows Ether, with staking income layered on top.
One detail matters for the cost. Staking changed the fee picture: CI's unitholders approved a staking service fee in August 2025, and CI keeps up to 25% of staking rewards after validator fees, with at least 75% going to the fund. CI planned to start by staking up to half of the ETH.
What Is The Best Ethereum ETF To Buy In Canada?
The honest answer depends on three things: the cost you pay, whether you want staking income, and whether you hold the fund in Canadian or US dollars. On cost alone among Canadian-listed funds, ETHX.B has the lowest management fee. On staking, ETHX.B and ETHH both stake and split the rewards with the manager. On simplicity, any of them is easier than self-custody. I would compare the total expense ratio on each fund's current fact sheet, not only the management fee, before choosing.
What Is The Price Prediction For ETHX.B Stock?
I do not make price predictions. The fund tracks Ether, so its price follows Ether's price, and nobody reliably forecasts that. Treat any site that gives a precise ETHX.B target as a guess.
What Are The Top Crypto ETFs In Canada?
Bitcoin and Ether funds are the core of the Canadian market, with Solana ETFs added more recently. I compare the whole group on my best crypto ETFs in Canada page, and the Bitcoin funds in particular on Bitcoin ETFs in Canada. For the US-listed Bitcoin fund from the same sponsor as EZET, read my EZBC fact sheet.
Questions like "what three ETFs should I buy" are personal. Your tax account, risk tolerance and time horizon decide them, not a blog. If you hold Ether in a fund, a sale is a capital gain or loss, and half of a capital gain is included in income under the CRA's current rules.
How Does Staking Change What You Pay?
Staking adds income and adds a cut. ETHX.B shows a 0.40% management fee and a 1.14% MER, and ETHH shows a 1.00% management fee and a 1.42% MER. Part of that gap is operating costs, and part is the way staking is accounted for, so the gap between the fee and the MER is not a typo. The manager's share of staking rewards is separate: CI keeps up to 25% of staking rewards after validator fees, and Purpose up to 20%. Ether held inside a fund is staked by the fund, so you see the net effect in the fund's price rather than as separate income.
ETF Or Ether On An Exchange: How Do The Staking Splits Compare?
| Route | Staking Cut Or Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ETHX.B | Manager keeps up to 25% of rewards, at least 75% to the fund | Staking began on or about August 27, 2025, with up to half of the ETH staked at first |
| ETHH | Manager keeps up to 20% of rewards, at least 80% to the fund | 80/20 split paid from rewards |
| Coinbase | 35% standard commission | Stake ETH, ADA, SOL, ATOM or XTZ for up to 10% APY shown, in eligible jurisdictions |
| Wealthsimple Crypto | 30% on Core and Premium, 15% on Generation, plus validator fees | Shows up to 5% a year |
| NDAX | 20% administration fee | Opt-in staking |
| Newton | Not stated on the page I read | Shows up to 1.5% APY for ETH, an estimate that is not guaranteed |
| Kraken | Not stated in my facts file | Canadians can stake ETH but cannot use Opt-in Rewards |
The cut is not the whole story, because the gross yield differs. But it tells you who takes what before you start. Holding an ETF in a brokerage account is simple and sits inside registered accounts if you choose. Holding Ether on an exchange lets you stake it and send it. For tax, the CRA says staking rewards on a centralized exchange are income when they are credited to your wallet on the platform, so an exchange stake creates a reporting task that an ETF does not give you directly. My staking and taxes guide covers it.
Should You Buy An Ethereum ETF Or Ether Itself?
Pick the ETF if you want Ether price exposure in an account you already use and you do not want to manage a wallet. Pick Ether on a registered exchange if you want to use it, stake it directly or withdraw it. For a purchase of $5,000, a flat 0.20% exchange fee at NDAX costs $10 once, while an ETF with a 0.40% management fee costs $20 each year before any staking effects, so the ETF's fee comes back every year you hold it. The exchange route carries custody and security duties, and the ETF carries fund costs and no withdrawal rights. I would rank the exchange route first for someone who wants to learn, and the ETF first for someone who only wants the price exposure.
