Galaxy Digital no longer trades on the TSX. It listed on Nasdaq in May 2025 under the ticker GLXY and delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange effective March 19, 2026. Canadians can still buy it through brokers that offer Nasdaq stocks, and Galaxy remains a reporting issuer in Canada, so it keeps filing Canadian disclosure.

  • Today: Nasdaq only, ticker GLXY
  • TSX delisting: March 19, 2026, announced March 3
  • Canadian link: founded by Mike Novogratz, reverse takeover listing in 2018, TSX listing in 2020

People search "galaxy digital tsx" and "galaxy digital canada" because the company used to be one of the biggest crypto names on the Toronto exchange. This is an explainer on what changed and what it means for a Canadian investor. It is not a price page and not a recommendation.

Is Galaxy Digital Listed On The TSX?

No. Galaxy's board approved a voluntary TSX delisting on March 3, 2026, and it took effect at the close on March 19, 2026. The company gave two reasons: the majority of its average daily trading volume executed on Nasdaq or other US markets, and a single listing means fewer associated costs and administrative requirements. The Globe and Mail reported daily volume of nearly 7 million shares on Nasdaq against 773,831 on the TSX. The Globe also noted the exit as a loss for the Toronto exchange, in the context of a wider decline in Canada's public markets.

What Does The Nasdaq Listing Mean For Canadians?

Nothing changes about who can own it. Galaxy said in its announcement that many brokers in Canada, including discount and online brokers, can buy and sell Nasdaq-listed securities, so Canadian holders can keep trading on Nasdaq. It also said it will remain a reporting issuer in Canada, so it still files regular disclosure under Canadian securities law. Your broker may charge a currency conversion fee on US-listed stocks. For example, Wealthsimple lists a 1.5% FX fee on US-listed securities if you do not hold a US dollar account.

What Is Galaxy Digital?

Galaxy Digital is a crypto financial services company founded by former Goldman Sachs trader Mike Novogratz. Its Canadian footprint extends beyond its stock. It is the partner in the CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCX.B) from CI Global Asset Management, which lists a 0.40% management fee and a 0.71% MER as of June 30, 2026, per CI's fund page. That is a way to get bitcoin exposure in a TSX fund that registered accounts can usually hold, though you should confirm eligibility with your broker.

Can I Hold Galaxy Stock In A TFSA Or RRSP?

Securities listed on a designated stock exchange can generally be held in a TFSA, according to the CRA's TFSA guide. Whether your broker lets you hold a Nasdaq name in a registered account is a question for the broker. Galaxy's stock is not a Bitcoin proxy you can send to a wallet. If you want the coin, buy it at a registered exchange: Coinbase, Kraken, Wealthsimple Crypto, Newton or NDAX. See how to buy Bitcoin in Canada.

Is A Crypto Stock The Same As Owning Crypto?

No, and the difference is easy to forget. A crypto stock is a share in a business with trading, asset management, mining and other lines. Its price follows earnings, costs and market mood as well as crypto prices. Owning crypto means holding the asset. For listed funds that hold coins directly, see my Bitcoin ETFs in Canada page. For the bigger picture, see my guide to Canadian crypto stocks.

How Is Galaxy Taxed If I Sell It?

A stock sale is a capital disposition like any other. The CRA says capital gains from crypto-related activity are reported on Schedule 3 when they are capital in nature, and the same schedule is used for shares. Report the gain in Canadian dollars using the exchange rate at purchase and sale, and keep your broker's statements. My crypto taxation guide covers the crypto side, and an accountant can help with currency conversion on US stocks.

How Does The Galaxy Stock Compare With The CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF?

Two Ways To Get Galaxy Exposure
FactorGalaxy Digital Stock (GLXY)CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCX.B)
What You OwnShares in a crypto financial services companyUnits of a fund that holds bitcoin, run by CI with Galaxy
Where It TradesNasdaq only since March 19, 2026Canadian exchange, ticker BTCX.B
What Drives ItCompany earnings, trading volumes, costs, plus crypto pricesBitcoin's price, less fees
Cost To HoldBroker commission and any currency conversion0.40% management fee, 0.71% MER as of June 30, 2026
CurrencyUS dollarsCanadian dollars (the C$ unhedged series)

They are different bets. The stock is a business, with the risks of a business. The fund is a way to hold bitcoin through a brokerage account. Many readers who search the company are really looking for bitcoin exposure, and the fund or a registered exchange gets there with fewer moving parts.

What Does A TSX Delisting Mean For Shareholders In General?

A voluntary delisting from one exchange does not cancel the shares. The company still exists, and the stock still trades where it remains listed, which here is Nasdaq. What changes is where you can sell and how much liquidity is on each side. Galaxy's own announcement said most of its trading already happened on Nasdaq or other US markets. The Globe and Mail put the gap at nearly 7 million shares a day on Nasdaq against 773,831 on the TSX. A holder in a Canadian brokerage account should check that their broker supports Nasdaq trading, which Galaxy said many Canadian discount and online brokers do.

How Do I Report A US-Dollar Stock Sale In Canadian Dollars?

Capital gains are reported in Canadian dollars, so you convert both your purchase cost and your sale proceeds to CAD. Brokers typically show the exchange rate used. Keep statements for both legs. This is general guidance, not tax advice, and an accountant can confirm the method that fits your situation. If you also hold crypto directly, my filing guide shows where each type of gain goes.

How Does Galaxy's Move Fit The Wider Pattern In Canada?

Canadian Crypto Companies And Their Listings In 2026
CompanyWhat ChangedDate
Galaxy DigitalDelisted from the TSX; Nasdaq onlyMar 19, 2026
Bitfarms (now Keel Infrastructure)Redomiciled to the US; trades on Nasdaq and the TSX as KEELApr 6, 2026
WonderFiAcquired by Robinhood and delistedJun 1, 2026
Hut 8Dual-listed on Nasdaq and the TSXOngoing

The pattern is that the larger names are consolidating toward US markets, either by moving their primary listing, redomiciling or being bought. That is a market story, not a verdict on the stocks. For a wider view, read my Canadian crypto stocks guide.

What Should I Check Before Buying A Nasdaq-Listed Stock From A Canadian Account?

  • That your broker supports Nasdaq trading, which Galaxy said many Canadian discount and online brokers do.
  • The currency conversion fee, for example Wealthsimple's 1.5% FX fee on US-listed securities without a US dollar account.
  • Whether the stock can be held in your registered account.
  • That you can get Canadian disclosure, since Galaxy remains a reporting issuer in Canada.

If you hold Galaxy shares from the TSX days, check your broker statement to confirm the position now shows against the Nasdaq listing. The company itself continues, and Galaxy said it keeps filing Canadian disclosure, so nothing about the shares was cancelled by the delisting.

  • Galaxy's Class A stock was delisted from the TSX after the close.
  • Galaxy announced a voluntary TSX delisting in favour of Nasdaq.
