Canadian crypto stocks are companies, not coins: miners, exchanges and data-center businesses whose shares trade on the TSX, TSX Venture or US exchanges. Hut 8 and Keel Infrastructure (formerly Bitfarms) list on both Nasdaq and the TSX. Galaxy Digital left the TSX in March 2026, and WonderFi was bought by Robinhood. Owning these shares is not the same as owning crypto, and I do not quote share prices here.

  • Hut 8: Nasdaq and TSX, ticker HUT
  • Keel Infrastructure: Nasdaq and TSX, ticker KEEL since April 6, 2026
  • Galaxy Digital: Nasdaq only since March 19, 2026
  • If you want the coin: buy it on Coinbase or Kraken

People search "crypto stock Canada" for TFSA-friendly exposure, or because they want something they can buy through a normal brokerage. The market has shifted sharply in 2026, with several miners pivoting to AI data centres and some leaving Canadian exchanges. This page is an explainer, not a price page, and not a list of picks.

What Are The Main Canadian Crypto Stocks?

Miners and infrastructure. Hut 8 describes itself as an energy infrastructure operator and Bitcoin miner, and its 2026 filings are about AI data centres: a 15-year lease at Beacon Point, $4.25 billion of investment-grade notes priced June 4, 2026, and a $1.07 billion revolving credit facility that closed on September 28, 2026. Keel Infrastructure is Bitfarms under a new name, with the company redomiciled from Canada to the United States by a plan of arrangement approved March 24, 2026. DMG Blockchain trades on the Venture exchange.

Exchanges. The Canadian exchange stocks have mostly been absorbed. WonderFi, which owned Bitbuy, Coinsquare and Bitcoin.ca, went to Robinhood; see my WonderFi and Robinhood explainer. I have not found public shares for Shakepay or Netcoins, so a search that suggests one is probably an old or unrelated listing. Check the exchange name and the company's filings.

Galaxy Digital. It was the biggest TSX crypto name, and it now trades only on Nasdaq. Read Galaxy Digital in Canada.

Are Crypto Stocks TFSA And RRSP Eligible?

Shares listed on a designated stock exchange can generally be held in a TFSA, per the CRA's TFSA guide, and TSX-listed shares fit that description. Whether your broker lets you hold a given US or venture-exchange stock in a registered account is a question for the broker. A stock is not a coin, and coins themselves cannot go into these accounts. For the coin route, see Bitcoin in an RRSP and my Bitcoin ETFs page.

Is A Crypto Stock A Good Way To Get Exposure?

Pros

  • Buy in a normal brokerage account, including registered accounts
  • No wallet, no exchange sign-up
  • Wealthsimple lists $0 commission on stock trades in registered and non-registered accounts

Cons

  • The share price follows earnings, debt and AI-data-centre bets, not just crypto
  • Miners pay costs in fiat while their revenue moves with crypto
  • US-listed stocks can add a currency conversion fee

What About Bitcoin Treasury Companies?

A treasury company holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet and trades at a premium or discount to the value of its coins. I did not verify a current list of Canadian treasury stocks for this page, so I will not name one. If a company markets itself that way, read its filings for how many coins it holds, how it funded them and whether it carries debt, and compare the share price with the coin value.

How Do I Buy A Canadian Crypto Stock?

Open a brokerage account, search the ticker and check the exchange next to it. Hut 8 and Keel list on both Nasdaq and the TSX, so you can choose the Canadian or the US line, and a Canadian-dollar purchase avoids conversion. Check the broker's fee for US-listed shares, since Wealthsimple lists a 1.5% FX fee on US-listed securities without a US dollar account. Selling at a profit is a capital disposition reported on Schedule 3, covered in my tax guide.

How Do Crypto Miners Make Money?

A miner earns bitcoin for validating blocks, and pays for electricity, hardware and financing in fiat. If bitcoin's price rises faster than its costs, margins widen, and if it falls, they shrink quickly. The CRA treats mining by individuals as business income, which is a different situation from owning shares in a miner. The 2026 twist is the pivot to AI. Hut 8 describes itself as an energy infrastructure operator and Bitcoin miner, and its filings highlight a 15-year, 352 MW data-center lease at Beacon Point with a $9.8 billion base-term contract value. Keel Infrastructure, the former Bitfarms, describes itself as a digital infrastructure company. A share in either is now partly a bet on data-center demand, not just on crypto.

What Are The Risks Of The AI Pivot?

  • Debt. Hut 8 priced $3.25 billion of investment-grade senior secured notes for River Bend on April 27, 2026, and $4.25 billion for Beacon Point on June 4, 2026. Large projects mean large obligations.
  • Tenant concentration. A long lease with one hyperscaler is stable, until it is not.
  • Execution. Data centres have to be built on time and on budget.
  • Redomiciling. Keel moved from Canada to the United States, which can change tax and reporting treatment for investors. Read its filings.

How Do I Research A Crypto Stock Using Official Filings?

Canadian issuers file on SEDAR+, and US-listed companies file with the SEC's EDGAR system. Read the latest annual report and quarterly results, the debt note and the risk factors. Hut 8 and Keel file US forms such as 8-K and 10-Q, which is where the details in this article come from. Do not rely on a stock-picking blog, including mine, for numbers you can read first-hand.

How Do Crypto Stocks Differ From Crypto ETFs?

Stocks Versus Funds For Crypto Exposure
FactorCrypto StockBitcoin ETF
What You OwnA share in a businessUnits of a fund that holds bitcoin
Price DriversEarnings, debt, strategy and crypto pricesBitcoin's price, less fees
CostBrokerage commission, possible FX feeMER, 0.33% to 1.29% in my fund table
DiversificationSingle companySingle coin
Where To Read MoreSEC and SEDAR+ filingsFund facts sheet and prospectus

If your goal is Bitcoin exposure in a registered account, an ETF is the cleaner tool. If you want a business bet, a stock is the tool. See crypto funds and advisors in Canada for the fund list.

What Should I Know About Currency And Tax On Dual-Listed Stocks?

If a company lists in both Toronto and New York, you can often choose the Canadian-dollar line and avoid a conversion. A US-listed purchase may trigger a conversion fee, such as Wealthsimple's 1.5% on US-listed securities without a USD account. Gains on shares are capital dispositions reported on Schedule 3, in Canadian dollars. Talk to an accountant about dividends from a US company, which I have not verified here.

What Changed For Canadian Crypto Stocks In October 2026?

  • Hut 8 closed a $1.07 billion four-year senior secured revolving credit facility.
  • Hut 8 priced $4.25 billion of notes for its Beacon Point data-center project.
  • Robinhood completed its WonderFi acquisition.
  • Bitfarms shares began trading as Keel Infrastructure (KEEL) on Nasdaq and the TSX.
  • Galaxy Digital delisted from the TSX.
