How To Withdraw From Gate (Gate.io) In Canada In 2026

Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

Log in to Gate, open Assets, choose Withdraw, pick the coin and the network that matches your receiving address, paste the address, confirm with your fund password and 2FA, and submit. Gate has no Canadian dollar withdrawal, so the practical route is to send crypto to a CSA-registered Canadian exchange, sell it there for CAD and take the money out by Interac e-Transfer. Canada is a restricted location in Gate's user agreement, so do this sooner rather than later and contact Gate support about your account's status.

  • Withdraw path: Assets, Withdraw, coin, network, address, 2FA, confirm.
  • Where to send it: Coinbase first, then Kraken or NDAX.
  • USDT holders: swap to BTC, ETH or USDC on Gate first.
  • Tax: moving crypto between your own wallets is not a sale, selling or swapping it is.

Can Canadians Still Use Gate?

Not under Gate's own rules. Gate, the exchange formerly known as Gate.io, lists Canada as a restricted location in its user agreement. The wording reads: "The Restricted Locations include but are not limited to: the United States of America, Mainland China, Singapore, Canada, France, Germany..." and so on. It applies to all of Canada, not one province. The agreement also says the list can change without notice and that users in a restricted location must stop using the services.

You can read the clause yourself in the Gate user agreement. Gate is also not on the CSA's list of authorized platforms, and its FINTRAC registration (Gate Technology Corp.) expired on May 31, 2023 with no current registration found. That is why I rank it nowhere and recommend getting your money out. My full write-up is in the Gate.io review.

Here is the part I want to be straight about. I could not find any Canada-specific withdrawal notice, deadline or account-closure process published by Gate. So I will not tell you your account is in a particular mode. What the agreement does say is that Gate may restrict or prohibit services in certain jurisdictions at its discretion. Contact Gate support and ask what your account's status is before you plan around a withdrawal. Using a VPN to get around the restriction breaks Gate's terms and can put your funds at risk of review or closure, so do not go there.

How Do I Withdraw Crypto From Gate To A Canadian Exchange?

The menu names can shift slightly between the app and the website, but the flow follows Gate's own help guides. Set up your destination exchange account and get its deposit address for the exact coin and network first. That way you are copying a real address, not guessing.

Withdrawing Crypto From Gate: The Steps
StepWhat To DoWhat To Watch
1Log in and open Assets, then Withdraw (on-chain withdrawal).Use the real gate.com site. The old gate.io address redirects there.
2Select the coin you are sending, such as BTC, ETH or USDC.Confirm your Canadian exchange accepts that coin.
3Choose the network. It must match the network of the receiving address. A mismatch can mean permanent loss.
4Paste the deposit address from your Canadian exchange, or pick it from your address book.Check the first and last characters. Send a small test amount first.
5Enter the amount and review the fee and minimum shown on the page. Both are dynamic and change with network conditions, so read them on the day.
6Verify with your fund password and 2FA (an authenticator app or email code).Gate may also ask for a KYC review if your account is flagged.
7Submit, then track the transaction in your withdrawal history.Withdrawal limits depend on your verification level and VIP tier, and show in your account.

Which Security Settings Affect A Withdrawal?

Gate lets you build an address whitelist (the Address Book). You add a coin, a network and an address, confirm with your fund password and 2FA, and can mark it as trusted so you are not asked again each time. For a Canadian exchange deposit address you will reuse, that is worth doing once. Be aware of the holds too: after a security change such as a new password or 2FA reset, Gate can pause withdrawals for 24 hours. If you were planning to leave this for the last minute, do not.

Which Network Should I Pick When Withdrawing USDT From Gate?

The one that matches the address you are sending to. That is the whole rule. TRC20 and ERC20 are two different networks for the same coin, and a deposit address for one will not work on the other. If your receiving wallet only supports ERC20 and you send on TRC20, the funds can be lost for good. Fees and minimums differ by network and move around, so I am not quoting numbers: the withdrawal page shows the current figure for each network before you confirm.

There is a Canadian wrinkle on top of that. USDT is not available on CSA-registered platforms. Coinbase suspended it for Canadians on August 31, 2023, and the only stablecoin the CSA rules clearly allow is USDC. So if you hold USDT on Gate and want to cash out through a registered Canadian exchange, swap it to BTC, ETH or USDC on Gate before you withdraw, or send the USDT to a wallet you control. Remember that a swap is a taxable disposition (see below).

Can I Withdraw Canadian Dollars From Gate To My Bank?

No. I found no evidence that Gate offers CAD fiat withdrawal or banking support for Canadian users, and with Canada restricted, any fiat or OTC option is for supported countries only. The route that works is crypto out, then CAD at a registered exchange:

  1. Open an account at a CSA-registered Canadian exchange and finish identity verification.
  2. Copy its deposit address for the coin and network you plan to send.
  3. Withdraw from Gate using the steps above, starting with a small test.
  4. Once it lands, sell the crypto for CAD.
  5. Withdraw the CAD to your bank by Interac e-Transfer (or EFT or wire where offered).

The fee comparison for that last step is on my cash out crypto in Canada page.

Where Should Canadians Trade Instead Of Gate?

These are my three picks for the receiving side, from my ranking of the 61 exchanges I have tested. All three are CSA-registered.

Where To Send Your Crypto From Gate: Three Canadian Picks
ExchangeScoreStatusTrading FeeCAD BankingBest For
Coinbase9.9CSA-registeredUp to 1.875% on simple buys, plus spreadFree Interac e-Transfer and EFTFirst-time users who want a regulated, simple app
Kraken9.6CSA-registeredKraken Pro 0.40% maker, 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1%Free Interac e-Transfer depositsCheaper trading once you move to Kraken Pro
NDAX8.8CSA-registeredFlat 0.20%Free Interac e-Transfer and wireLow flat fees and cheap cash-outs

Coinbase is my number one pick, and the one I would open first: it is the simplest way to receive BTC, ETH or USDC and turn it into CAD. Kraken suits you if you plan to keep trading, and NDAX if the flat fee matters most. Check the CAD withdrawal options and costs inside each app before you commit a large amount.

Is Withdrawing From Gate Taxable In Canada?

Moving your own crypto from Gate to your own wallet, or to an account in your own name at a Canadian exchange, is not a taxable disposition by itself. Selling it for CAD, or swapping one coin for another (including USDT to USDC), is. The CRA treats crypto as a commodity, so a disposition can be a capital gain or business income depending on your situation. Keep your Gate trade history and withdrawal records, because you need the original cost of what you sell. Export them before your access changes. My crypto taxation guide covers how to report it.

Yes. Gate.io rebranded to Gate and moved to gate.com on May 19, 2025, with redirects from the old domain.
