To buy Gala (GALA) in Canada, open an account on a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars and place the order. On my scorecard that means Kraken (9.2), Newton (7.9) and NDAX (7.8), and 1 more in the table below.

BloFin, MEXC and Bitunix also list it, but they are offshore, so read the labels before you consider them.

  1. Kraken, 9.2: free Interac deposits and cheaper trading on Kraken Pro
  2. Newton, 7.9: free CAD funding at a Canadian-regulated dealer
  3. NDAX, 7.8: a low flat fee and free Interac or wire funding

I have been trading crypto in Canada since 2016 and I have tested 61 exchanges to find the best ways for Canadians to buy coins like this one, and I share what I find on my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada, and in the r/OCryptoCanada community. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned trader, this guide will help you make a smart, informed decision.

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

Why Buy Gala (GALA)?

GALA (GALA) isn’t just another cryptocurrency, it’s the heart of the Gala Games ecosystem, powering a decentralized gaming platform with play-to-earn perks. Canadians might be hooked by its gaming focus and potential rewards, whether you’re in Toronto or the Rockies.

A quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in. I am not quoting a live GALA price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and judge any coin by what it does rather than by a chart. The facts below come from the project's own site, docs or whitepaper, or from the wallet vendor's own support pages.

What Is Gala, And What Does The GALA Token Do?

GALA is the token of the Gala Games ecosystem. It serves as the gas token for all transactions on GalaChain, Gala's own Layer 1 blockchain, which Gala describes as built by Gala Games and Entertainment to let people transact nearly instantaneously and to support games, music and film applications in its ecosystem. On GalaChain, GALA pays gas fees and is used for reward distributions.

GalaChain relies on Founder's Nodes to process transactions and keep the network stable. There are 50,000 of them, and each receives a portion of the daily GALA distribution only if it was active for the minimum required time during the previous 24 hours. Operators may also receive random NFT awards.

How Many GALA Tokens Will Exist, And What Is Burned?

Gala documents a maximum supply of 50,000,000,000 GALA. Emissions began on September 11, 2020, with no token sale or pre-mint phase, and as of August 2024 the daily emission equals 0.25% of the difference between total supply and max supply. That is a shrinking amount, since the gap narrows as supply grows.

On the other side, all GALA used as gas on GalaChain is burned, and NFT sales may burn tokens from the ecosystem supply. Gala states the team burned approximately 20.9 billion tokens on May 15, 2023, and that it holds approximately 2 billion GALA in reserve. A team reserve is a fact to weigh, because it is supply that the team controls.

Which GALA Contract And Network Should You Use?

GALA exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, written $GALA[ETH], and as $GALA[GalaChain]. Gala says it can be bridged between them through the Gala Games website, Gala Connect or the Gala Wallet app. There is also a trap here: an older Ethereum GALA contract (0x15d4c048f83bd7e37d49ea4c83a07267ec4203da) is no longer supported as of May 2023, and the current Ethereum contract is 0xd1d2Eb1B1e90B638588728b4130137D262C87cae. If an exchange or wallet shows you the old one, stop and check.

Bridging has its own requirements. Bridging $GALA[ETH] to GalaChain through a Gala Games account needs ETH to pay gas, plus a Transfer Code and a 2FA code, and it completes when the status shows Fulfilled. Bridging from Solana to GalaChain on GalaConnect needs a Gala wallet account, a connected Solana wallet, SOL for gas and the correct GalaChain destination address, and it may take a few minutes. Gala also says exchanges such as Bitrue and KoinBX support deposits and withdrawals on the GalaChain network.

Where Can You Buy Gala (GALA) In Canada?

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include GALA, in my fixed ranking order. Wealthsimple is left out because it publishes no coin list I can check, and I will not claim it carries GALA. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.

Asset lists differ by region and change over time, so confirm that GALA shows up in the app before you fund an account.

Buy Gala (GALA) On BloFin

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. Only experienced traders who accept that risk would consider it, and I do not recommend it for Canadians.

BloFin lists GALA, with spot fees of 0.1% and no CAD funding. Its Terms of Use name Canada as a restricted location, so a Canadian account would break them. Read my BloFin review.

Buy Gala (GALA) On Kraken

Kraken is also a CSA Restricted Dealer, and Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. Instant Buy costs 1%, while Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so anyone buying more than a token amount should switch to Pro. Read my Kraken review.

Buy Gala (GALA) On Newton

Newton is a CSA-registered CIRO investment dealer with free Interac, wire and EFT funding. It charges no trading fee, and the cost sits in the spread, which starts at 1.00% on BTC and differs by coin. Read the spread on the order screen for GALA before you pay. Read my Newton review.

Buy Gala (GALA) On NDAX

NDAX is a CSA-registered CIRO investment dealer. It charges a flat 0.20% on every buy and sell, with free Interac and wire funding. The spread is not published, so check the quote. Read my NDAX review.

Buy Gala (GALA) On MEXC

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. It attracts people hunting small-cap altcoins, but I do not recommend it for Canadians.

MEXC lists GALA, with spot fees of 0% maker and 0.05% taker and no verified CAD funding. Its User Agreement, last updated May 29, 2025, names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction. Read my MEXC review.

Buy Gala (GALA) On Bitunix

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I do not recommend it for Canadians.

Bitunix lists GALA, with spot fees of 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker at the base tier and no CAD funding. Its restricted regions notice names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.

Buy Gala (GALA) On Crypto.com

Crypto.com serves Canadians through Foris DAX CAN ULC, a CSA Restricted Dealer. Its Canadian marketing says maker and taker fees run as low as 0.08% and 0.18%, but I could not retrieve its Canadian fee schedule, so treat that as a best case and read the order preview. Deposits by bank transfer, card or crypto are listed as zero-fee. Read my Crypto.com review.

How Do You Buy Gala (GALA) In Canada Step By Step?

  1. Sign up to Kraken. I use Kraken here because it is the first CSA-registered platform in the table above that lists GALA. Download the app or use the website.
  2. Verify your identity. Upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours, so do it before you plan to buy.
  3. Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free on Kraken, and a wire or debit card also works. Cards cost more.
  4. Find GALA. Search for the name and the ticker and check that both match. Some tickers are shared by unrelated coins, so confirm you picked Gala.
  5. Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Use Kraken Pro rather than Instant Buy if you can, because 0.40% to 0.80% beats 1%.
  6. Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Check that the wallet supports GALA and its network, and send a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.

Which Wallets Support Gala (GALA), And How Do You Move It There?

Ledger states it supports GALA as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, managed through Ledger Live on desktop and mobile with cold storage on Ledger Nano devices. To bridge GalaChain assets to Ethereum through the Gala Games site, Gala supports linking MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or OKX Wallet.

For most Canadians buying on a registered exchange, the simple path is to withdraw $GALA[ETH] to an Ethereum address you control on a Ledger or in MetaMask, using the Ethereum network on the exchange's withdrawal screen. Confirm the contract against Gala's current address, keep a little ETH for gas if you plan to move it on, and send a small test amount first.

How Risky Is Gala (GALA)?

Any coin outside the top few can fall hard and trade thinly, and GALA is no exception. Thin trading means a wider gap between the buy and sell price, and that gap is a real cost on a small order. Buy only what you can lose, and decide in advance whether this is a trade or a long-term hold. I do not make price predictions, and nobody else can either.

How Do You Store Gala (GALA)?

Keeping your GALA safe is something you must do if you do not want to risk it being stolen. For safekeeping, use a private crypto wallet. Choose one of the crypto wallets I reviewed, and then send your GALA from the exchange you used to buy it to your wallet. If you buy any valuable cryptocurrency, always move it to a private wallet to keep it secure. Check that the wallet supports the coin and its network first, because sending to an unsupported address can lose the funds for good. Write your recovery phrase on paper, never store it in a photo or a cloud note, and never share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.

How Do You Sell Gala (GALA) In Canada?

To sell, go to the exchange where you bought it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then click sell. You can swap GALA for another cryptocurrency, or sell it for Canadian dollars if the exchange offers that, and then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees and limits differ by platform. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Gala (GALA) In Canada?

Buying GALA with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying Gala (GALA) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Newton was admitted to CIRO membership as an investment dealer.
  • The CSA issued a Restricted Dealer decision for Foris DAX CAN ULC, the entity behind Crypto.com in Canada.
