The Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax share a secure element and a coin menu, so the real differences are screen size, wireless charging and about $150 in USD. The Flex is the better value for most Canadians, and the Stax is the one to buy if you want the curved screen.

Which Is More Secure, Ledger Flex Or Ledger Stax?
On the chip, there is no difference: both use a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element, and both run the Ledger OS, which is not fully open source. So this is not a security upgrade decision. It is a size, screen and backup-accessory decision. The one security fact that touches both: Security Bulletin 021 (January 10, 2025), where the bootloader accepted an unvalidated reset-handler address during a microcontroller update, which could brick a device. Ledger says funds were never at risk, and it fixed it in Flex 1.2.2 and Stax 1.6.2 and later.
Ledger has had a busier 2026 than most. On August 27, 2026 it published Security Bulletins 023, 024 and 025: three bugs that could make a device show one thing while signing another if the host computer was malicious (interleaved commands, a 16-bit to 8-bit array truncation in the Ethereum app, and a swap flow that signed a token approval unseen). Ledger has no evidence of exploitation against users and shipped hardened apps from August 13, Secure SDK v26.6.1 on August 21 and Ethereum app 1.22.3 on August 25. January 2026 brought the Global-e payments-partner data incident (order details, no wallet data). Update the apps and the device firmware, which applies equally to both models.

The Stax is the nicer object: bigger curved screen, wireless charging, a card-sized body. The Flex is the practical one. Its 2.8 inch screen is plenty to read an address and a swap, and a smaller screen costs nothing in security. Both pair with the Ledger Wallet app on iOS, Android and desktop, which is how you will use them day to day.
Which Supports More Coins?
Neither. Both work with the Ledger Wallet app, which lists 500+ coins directly (Ledger names Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and stablecoins on the Flex page), and thousands more through 50+ compatible third-party wallets. It is the same app and the same coin menu, which is why the question "does Ledger Flex hold XRP?" gets a yes on either model. Your coins do not decide this purchase.

The Flex is $150 less in USD for the same chip and the same coin list. Ledger runs a Canadian storefront with CA$ pricing and lists Canadian resellers (Triniti Tech also appears on the reseller page). Buy through my Ledger Flex link or my Ledger Stax link. I do not mention Ledger referral credits here, since I could not verify one on Ledger's shop page.
Is Ledger Stax Being Discontinued?
Not according to anything I could confirm. Ledger's range page lists the Stax as current, with no end-of-sale notice. Ledger's lineup does show a newer Nano Gen5 sitting above the Nano X (the page is undated). If you read that the Stax is dead, ask for the source.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Both are Ledger accounts in the same app, so the exchange flow is identical: copy the address from Ledger Wallet, verify it on the device, send a small test, then the rest. Coinbase has a "Sending to myself" box and Kraken's Travel Rule pop-up appears from CAD 1,000. Moving coins between wallets you own is not taxable per the CRA. Ledger Recover is optional, runs through Coincover and depends on the country of your ID, so confirm it is offered to you before relying on it.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose the Flex if you want the same security, coin menu and backup tools for $150 less in USD. It is #3 in my ranking, and my Ledger Flex review covers the day-to-day. Choose the Stax if you want the larger curved screen and wireless charging and the price gap does not bother you; see my Ledger Stax review. If neither feels right, look at Trezor Safe 7 vs Ledger Flex and Trezor Safe 7 vs Ledger Stax.
What Has Happened With Ledger Flex And Ledger Stax?
: Ledger published Security Bulletins 023, 024 and 025 on signing-review bypasses; fixes shipped between August 13 and August 25.
: Ledger published Security Bulletin 022 on a Monero app key-recovery bug, fixed in Monero app 2.1.4.
: Ledger notified customers of a Global-e payments-partner incident that exposed order data, not wallet data.
: Security Bulletin 021 on the firmware update parameter was fixed in Flex 1.2.2 and Stax 1.6.2.
