The Trezor Safe 7 costs USD 249 and the Ledger Stax costs USD 399. You trade the Stax's curved E Ink card design and Canadian retail for the Safe 7's open firmware, colour screen and lower price.

What Happens If You Lose Your Trezor Safe 7 Or Ledger Stax?
Trezor Safe 7: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup (Shamir). Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).

Which Is More Secure, Trezor Safe 7 Or Ledger Stax?
These are the two premium credit-card-era wallets, and the price gap is large: the Safe 7 lists at USD 249 and the Stax at USD 399. The Stax is the more luxurious design, and the Safe 7 is the more open one.
The Stax uses a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element, and Ledger OS is not fully open source. For backups you get a Ledger Recovery Key in a protective magnet shell, recovery sheets and the optional Ledger Recover service. The Safe 7 combines TROPIC01, an EAL6+ Optiga element and an STM32U5, publishes firmware and signed binaries, and offers 12, 20 and 24 word backups plus Shamir multi-share. Trezor also claims post-quantum cryptography in firmware updates, device authentication and boot.
On records, the Safe 7 had the TROPIC01 laser attack in June 2026 (needs the device, decapsulation and lab gear, and Trezor says PIN, funds and backup are not exposed), then ShipMonk and Brevo customer data incidents (ShipMonk). Ledger's bulletin 021 in January 2025 fixed a bootloader flaw in Stax 1.6.2 and later, and its August 2026 bulletins 023 to 025 covered signing-review bypasses on compromised hosts (bulletin 023). No funds were reported lost through either device's seed.
Which Is Easier To Use?
The Stax is a 3.7 inch curved E Ink touchscreen at 400 x 670 in 16 grayscale, credit-card size at 85 x 54 x 6 mm and 45 g, with Bluetooth, NFC, USB-C and Qi wireless charging and up to 10 hours or 150 transactions on battery. The Safe 7 has a 2.5 inch colour touchscreen with haptic feedback and Qi2 charging in an IP54 aluminium body at 75.4 x 44.5 x 8.3 mm and 45 g, with a 330 mAh LiFePO4 battery. Both weigh 45 g. E Ink reads better outdoors, colour reads better indoors. The Stax uses Ledger Wallet on Windows, macOS, Ubuntu, Android and iOS, and the Safe 7 uses Trezor Suite with full iOS compatibility.
Which Supports More Coins?
Ledger says 500+ coins directly in Ledger Wallet and thousands more through 50+ compatible wallets. Trezor says 1000s of coins and tokens through Suite and 30+ third-party apps. I keep my ETH, SOL and XRP on a Trezor Safe 7 and a Tangem card, which tells you where my coins live, but I have also tested the Stax.

The Safe 7 is USD 150 cheaper. The Stax has Canadian retail (Canada Computers, Best Buy Canada, Amazon Canada) and a Canadian storefront, though its CA$ price loads dynamically and I did not capture it. Trezor's Canadian reseller listing is Amazon Canada. Whether the extra USD 150 buys you anything is a matter of taste, since both have a big screen and similar chips.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Both receive from any exchange. NDAX shows a Travel Rule prompt above CA$1,000 and remembers details per address, Coinbase offers "Sending to myself", and Kraken pops up a Travel Rule box. Transfers between your own wallets are not dispositions per the CRA. See my NDAX review.
Do not let the premium price talk you into keeping more on one device than you should. Whichever you buy, split large holdings, write the recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline and never type it into a computer or phone. Both makers say they will never ask for it, and Trezor warns scammers now use AI to imitate support in text, voice and video.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose the Safe 7 for open firmware, lower price and full iPhone support. It is my number one.

I rank the Trezor Safe 7 first and the Ledger Flex third. Trezor has open firmware and lower prices, Ledger has Canadian retail and a recovery option. See Ledger vs Trezor.
What Are The Top 3 Crypto Wallets?
My top three are the Trezor Safe 7, Tangem Wallet and Ledger Flex. The Stax is outside my top seven. That is my own ranking after testing.

No. The Safe 7, Safe 5 and Safe 3 are current. The older Trezor Model T is discontinued, and its page names the Safe 5 as its successor.
Can XRP Be Stored On Trezor?
I keep my ETH, SOL and XRP on a Trezor Safe 7 and a Tangem card. Trezor says it supports 1000s of coins and tokens, but XRP is not named on the pages I sourced, so check its coin list. Ledger names XRP among its 500+ coins.
Is The Ledger Stax Worth The Extra Cost?
It costs USD 150 more than the Safe 7 and has a slimmer card form and a curved E Ink screen. Both have EAL6+ chips, so the extra money buys design and Canadian retail availability, not obviously better security.
