The ELLIPAL X Card is a USD 59 NFC card, and the NGRAVE ZERO is an air-gapped touchscreen wallet from USD 398. The honest one-line difference: ELLIPAL is the budget pick, NGRAVE is the premium one, and NGRAVE was sold out when I checked.
ELLIPAL Vs NGRAVE: Which Is Better For Canadians?
For most Canadians, the NGRAVE ZERO is the better pick because it scores 7.6 against 7.5 on my list. My #1 wallet pick overall is the Trezor Safe 7 (9.6/10).
How Do The ELLIPAL X Card And NGRAVE ZERO Compare, Spec By Spec?
Every row comes from the makers’ own pages and published security records, checked October 2026. Where there is no fair winner, the row says so.

What Happens If You Lose Your ELLIPAL X Card Or NGRAVE ZERO?
ELLIPAL X Card: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: create 12/18/24-word seed; recover 12/15/18/21/24-word; link several cards to one wallet as backups. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2019-06-25 (Ledger Donjon seed extraction from Ellipal).
NGRAVE ZERO: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 24-word BIP-39 seed or hexadecimal 'Perfect Key' (convertible both ways); COMBO PACK includes a backup product. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app.

CBSA courier thresholds: shipments from outside the US and Mexico are duty and tax free only up to CAD 20, and from the US or Mexico up to CAD 40, so expect taxes on any hardware wallet. Buy from the maker or an authorised reseller only.
This is the cheapest cold wallet in the series against one of the most expensive. The ELLIPAL X Card is USD 59, and the NGRAVE ZERO is USD 398 on its own, USD 498 with a backup product and USD 568 for the Ultimate combo. The gap is big enough that you should know what the extra USD 339 buys.
Which Is More Secure, ELLIPAL Or NGRAVE?
NGRAVE says its chip is Common Criteria EAL7 certified and calls the ZERO the only crypto hardware wallet with EAL7. That is the company's claim and I could not confirm it against a certification body page, so treat it as marketing until you see the certificate. The ELLIPAL X Card uses an EAL6+ chip. EAL7 is a higher assurance level than EAL6+ if the claim is right.
Beyond the chip: the ZERO is fully air-gapped, with no USB, Bluetooth, NFC, WiFi or 4G, and it communicates by QR code only. It has a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen and a fingerprint sensor, and its passphrase feature creates unlimited hidden wallets. Backup is a 24-word BIP-39 seed or a hexadecimal Perfect Key, convertible both ways. The X Card is also screenless: it uses NFC tap signing, a Card-PIN of 6 to 16 digits and a factory reset after 10 wrong attempts. It makes a 12, 18 or 24 word seed and supports a passphrase.
Incidents: I found none for NGRAVE. For ELLIPAL the one dated public finding is from June 2019, when Ledger Donjon showed that someone with physical access could extract the seed (Ledger's write-up). No audit is on file for NGRAVE in my records either, which means an absence of evidence, not a clean bill.
Which Is Easier To Use?
The ZERO gives you a big screen and a fingerprint, and you scan QR codes between it and your phone. That is the air-gapped way: slower, but nothing wireless to attack. The X Card is the opposite: tap to a phone, no screen, the wallet created offline on a separate Starter and the ELLIPAL app on Android and iOS. If you want to see and verify every detail on a device screen, the ZERO. If you want the quickest tap, the card.
Which Supports More Coins?
NGRAVE's own pages disagree with each other. The hero line says "+3 500 coins and tokens", while the spec line says 15 coins plus all Ethereum and MultiversX tokens. Until NGRAVE reconciles the two, I would not buy assuming a coin works. ELLIPAL lists 10,000+ tokens across 45+ blockchains and NFTs on Ethereum and Polygon, with WalletConnect for dApps. Look up your exact asset on both lists.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Same routine as any self-custody wallet. Copy the address from the app, withdraw from Coinbase or NDAX, confirm the Travel Rule prompt for CA$1,000 or more and send a small test first. The ZERO's QR-only design does not change how the receive address works. Moving coins between your own wallets is not a disposition for the CRA.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose NGRAVE if you want an air-gapped touchscreen device with a fingerprint sensor and are comfortable paying USD 398 or more and waiting for stock. Choose ELLIPAL if you want the cheapest credible card and the broadest token list. The ZERO's COMBO PACK adds a backup product, and the Perfect Key option is worth understanding before you buy, since it is a different backup format from the usual word list. If your budget is somewhere between, a Trezor or Ledger gets you a screen and a mature app for less than the ZERO; see ELLIPAL Vs Trezor.
There is a middle path worth saying out loud: most Canadians do not need EAL7 or an air gap. If you hold a few thousand dollars, a USD 59 card with a passphrase and a properly stored backup is a reasonable answer. If you hold a life-changing amount, the money you save on the wallet matters less than whether you can buy it, verify it and recover it. Check that the ZERO is in stock, and compare against a Trezor Safe 7 before you pay the premium.
