The ELLIPAL X Card is a USD 59 screenless NFC card, and the Trezor Safe 7 is a USD 249 touchscreen device with open firmware and three chips. The honest one-line difference: ELLIPAL is cheap and compact, Trezor is the one I trust with the big holdings.

ELLIPAL Vs Trezor: Which Is Better For Canadians?

For most Canadians, the Trezor Safe 7 is the better pick because it scores 9.6 against 7.5 on my list.

What Happens If You Lose Your ELLIPAL X Card Or Trezor Safe 7?

ELLIPAL X Card: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: create 12/18/24-word seed; recover 12/15/18/21/24-word; link several cards to one wallet as backups. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2019-06-25 (Ledger Donjon seed extraction from Ellipal).

Trezor Safe 7: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup (Shamir). Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).

How Much Does It Cost To Get These Wallets To Canada?

ELLIPAL X CardUSD 59 (X Card)yes by implication: Canada (CAD) selectable in the store country list
Trezor Safe 7USD 249not stated; Amazon Canada is listed as an authorised reseller

CBSA courier thresholds: shipments from outside the US and Mexico are duty and tax free only up to CAD 20, and from the US or Mexico up to CAD 40, so expect taxes on any hardware wallet. Buy from the maker or an authorised reseller only.

This is a screenless card against a full touchscreen device, and the price gap between them is small enough that the choice is about habits, not budget. The ELLIPAL X Card is USD 59. The Trezor Safe 7 is USD 249. I keep my ETH, SOL and XRP on a Trezor Safe 7, so I know which side I lean to, but the card has a real use case.

Which Is More Secure, ELLIPAL Or Trezor?

The Safe 7 has three chips from three vendors: TROPIC01 (an auditable open-source secure element), an NDA-free EAL6+ Optiga secure element and an STM32U5 microcontroller. Trezor also claims it is the first hardware wallet to use post-quantum cryptography for firmware updates, device authentication and boot. Firmware changelogs and signed binaries are published on GitHub. The ELLIPAL X Card has one EAL6+ chip, and I could not confirm whether its firmware is open source.

Both support a passphrase. Trezor backs up with 12, 20 or 24 words and offers Advanced multi-share (Shamir) backup, while ELLIPAL's card makes a 12, 18 or 24 word seed and lets you link several cards to one wallet as backups.

Neither is incident-free. On Trezor: the TROPIC01 chip was hit by a Ledger Donjon laser attack disclosed on June 3, 2026, which needs possession, chip decapsulation and lab gear and which Trezor says leaves PIN, funds and backup unexposed because that chip is one of three layers (Trezor's response). In August and September 2026 Trezor also had a shipping-provider breach and a newsletter-provider breach that exposed customer contact data, but no devices or keys. ELLIPAL's is the 2019 Donjon seed-extraction finding with physical access (Ledger's write-up).

Which Is Easier To Use?

The Safe 7 has a 2.5 inch colour touchscreen with haptic feedback, Bluetooth, USB-C and Qi2 wireless charging, and runs Trezor Suite on Android, Mac, Windows and Linux with full iOS compatibility. You can read an address on the device before you sign. The X Card has no screen: you tap it to a phone and work through the ELLIPAL app, and the wallet itself is created offline on a separate Starter. If you have never used a hardware wallet, the screen is worth the money. If you only need to sign from a phone and want something wallet-thin, the card wins.

Which Supports More Coins?

ELLIPAL lists 10,000+ tokens across 45+ blockchains plus NFTs on Ethereum and Polygon. Trezor says "1000s of coins and tokens" in Trezor Suite, 30+ third-party wallet apps and 70k+ dApps through third parties. Can Trezor hold XRP? Yes: it is one of the coins I keep on mine. For rarer chains, check each list first.

Which Costs Less In Canada?

The Safe 7 costs about four times more. The cheaper Trezor Safe 5 (USD 129) and Safe 3 (USD 59) exist if you want Trezor's open firmware on a smaller budget; see Trezor Safe 5 Vs Ledger Stax for how the Safe 5 stacks up.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?

Identical in practice. Withdraw from Coinbase or Kraken to the receive address, confirm the Travel Rule prompt for CA$1,000 or more, and test with a small send. Both Trezor and ELLIPAL addresses are your own, so tick the "sending to myself" box where the exchange offers it.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose Trezor if you want a screen, open firmware you can inspect and a wide third-party app ecosystem, and you hold enough that USD 249 is cheap insurance. Choose ELLIPAL if you want a slim card, offline wallet creation and the lowest price. For most Canadians starting out I would still buy the Trezor, and use a card as a second wallet. One practical point on buying: the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre advises buying hardware wallets directly from the manufacturer, so avoid third-party marketplace sellers, and the buy links on this page go to the maker or its authorised store. Whichever you choose, write the backup down offline the moment you set it up and never type it into a phone or computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ELLIPAL A Good Crypto Wallet?

The X Card is a USD 59 screenless NFC card with an EAL6+ chip and a PIN of 6 to 16 digits. It is a sound second wallet. The one public finding I found is from 2019 and needs physical access.

What Is The Most Trusted Cold Wallet?

There is no clean record anywhere. Trezor has open firmware and public disclosures, Ledger and Tangem have theirs, and ELLIPAL has a 2019 finding. Pick one with published firmware and audits, and use a passphrase.

Can Trezor Hold XRP?

Yes. I keep my XRP on a Trezor Safe 7, along with ETH and SOL. Trezor lists thousands of coins and tokens, so check the exact asset on Trezor's list before you buy.

Which Is Better For Me, ELLIPAL Or Ledger?

If you want a screenless card, ELLIPAL; if you want a screen and a bigger app ecosystem, Ledger. See my ELLIPAL Vs Ledger comparison for specifics.
