For most Canadians, BloFin is the better choice (it wins on my ranking, published trading fee, coins available). NDAX still comes out ahead on canadian status, CAD funding. NDAX is best for low flat fees and cheap cash-outs to your bank.

What Do BloFin And NDAX Offer Beyond Buying And Selling?

BloFin Only

  • Perpetual swaps: 495 base assets (519 swap instruments) with maximum leverage up to 150x per the public API. Futures base fees are 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker. Not available to Canadians.
  • Copy trading: Listed as a service in the Terms of Use alongside futures and spot trading.

NDAX Only

  • Staking and Auto Earn: Opt-in rewards on supported assets. NDAX keeps 20% of rewards as an administration fee; the homepage advertises staking up to 13% APY.
  • OTC desk: Over-the-counter trading for large orders; terms and minimums are not published on the pages I could open.
  • API trading: Programmatic trading API, and a public instrument feed that lists the coins available.
  • Internal transfers: Transfers between NDAX accounts, including gift transfers, settle instantly at no cost.

What Happens To Your Money If BloFin Or NDAX Fails?

BloFin: BloFin is not registered with the CSA, is not a CIRO member and has no FINTRAC MSB registration, so no Canadian regulator oversees it. CIPF never covers crypto and BloFin is not a member anyway. Because Canada is a Restricted Location, an account opened from Canada through a VPN or false address can be frozen, with funds inside. We could not verify insurance, proof of reserves or cold storage shares. If the exchange fails or is hacked, a Canadian has no regulator to complain to.

NDAX: NDAX is a CIRO investment dealer, so CIPF protects the CAD cash you hold there, but the user agreement says no virtual asset in your account is eligible for CIPF or CDIC protection. Most assets sit in cold storage with trust-company custodians in omnibus accounts, and NDAX has a SOC 2 Type 2 audit, but it publishes no insurance amount and no proof of reserves. A hack, a custodian failure or an insolvency can still hurt crypto balances. Withdraw to your own wallet if you hold coins for the long term.

How Are BloFin And NDAX Treated For Tax In Canada?

BloFin: Spot sales, crypto-to-crypto trades and futures settlement are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export or CRA-ready report was verified, so Canadians would have to rebuild records from trade history.

NDAX: Each sale, swap and staking reward event is a disposition or income for CRA purposes, and staking rewards are income at the value received. NDAX provides CSV ledger reports and a Koinly API link but no CRA-ready report.

Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.

Which Should You Choose, BloFin Or NDAX?

Choose BloFin If

  • You want a regulated route: pick a CSA-registered platform instead, BloFin does not serve Canadians.
  • You wanted perpetual swaps: BloFin is not an option from Canada, so check a registered dealer's derivatives offer.

Choose NDAX If

  • You want a low flat 0.20% fee and a wide list of CAD-paired coins.
  • You want a CIRO-registered exchange that lists dozens of CAD pairs.
  • You want staking, an OTC desk or API access.
  • You mostly buy and hold and rarely cash out, since CAD withdrawals cost CAD 1.50 to 4.99.

Is BloFin Or NDAX Better For Canadians In 2026?

NDAX. It is #7 on my ranked list at 7.8, and BloFin is #2 at 9.6, but those scores describe trading cost and range, not whether a Canadian may use the platform. BloFin's Terms of Use list Canada as a Restricted Location, and it is not on the CSA list or registered with FINTRAC as far as I could find.

NDAX is the opposite on registration. It joined CIRO as an investment dealer on December 19, 2024, with a CSA decision the same day. FINTRAC lists it under M18632135 through the end of 2027. CIPF covers the CAD you hold there, and the user agreement says no virtual asset in your account is eligible for CIPF or CDIC protection.

Is A Flat 0.20% Fee Better Than 0.1% With No CAD Route?

Look at CAD 1,000. NDAX charges 0.20% on every buy and sell with no tiers, so CAD 2 each way. BloFin's base spot rate is 0.1% maker and taker, so CAD 1. The CAD 1 gap is the entire fee advantage.

Then count the rest. A full NDAX round trip on CAD 1,000 is CAD 4 in trading fees plus CAD 1.50 to take the money out by Interac e-Transfer (CAD 4.99 by EFT), about CAD 5.50 in total, ignoring price moves. Funding in is free by Interac or wire. BloFin has no CAD deposit or withdrawal at all. You would bring in crypto from another venue, pay that venue, pay network fees, and still face the fact that the account may be frozen.

My take: a CAD 1 saving per thousand is not worth a custody risk, which is the thing you are really buying or declining here.

Which Is Safer For Canadians?

NDAX keeps most assets in cold storage with BitGo and Coinbase Custody trust companies, in segregated omnibus accounts, with multisig, MPC and a SOC 2 Type 2 audit. It publishes no insurance amount and no proof of reserves. If one of those custodians failed, crypto balances could still be hurt, so hold long-term coins in your own wallet.

BloFin is custodial and I could not verify insurance, proof of reserves or cold storage. No Canadian regulator oversees it and CIPF never covers crypto. That makes NDAX the safer of the two without any contest.

How Do The Coin Lists Compare?

BloFin lists 235 spot assets across 242 live spot pairs, and 495 perpetual-swap base assets. NDAX lists about 76 coins on its public instrument list as of October 1, 2026, nearly all paired with CAD. If breadth is the aim, BloFin looks bigger, but a large share of its list is derivatives you cannot legally touch from Canada.

NDAX also covers things offshore venues do not: staking and Auto Earn (NDAX keeps 20% of rewards), an OTC desk, a trading API and a Koinly integration for taxes. NDAX's app offers French and rates 4.75 across 15,225 ratings on the Canadian App Store.

Who Should Choose BloFin And Who Should Choose NDAX?

For most people the call is NDAX, and the only open question is whether you need a wider coin list.

Choose NDAX if you want low flat fees and a CIRO dealer. You want a flat 0.20%, free Interac and wire deposits, and a Calgary exchange with a Canadian support line, and you mostly buy and hold.
