Canada Post funding adds CAD 3.95. Ranges reflect each platform’s published band, not a single quote. Bank and network fees are not included.

What Do BloFin And Bull Bitcoin Offer Beyond Buying And Selling?

BloFin Only

  • Perpetual swaps: 495 base assets (519 swap instruments) with maximum leverage up to 150x per the public API. Futures base fees are 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker. Not available to Canadians.
  • Copy trading: Listed as a service in the Terms of Use alongside futures and spot trading.

Bull Bitcoin Only

  • Bill payment with bitcoin (Bylls): Sell bitcoin to pay Canadian bill invoices. The CAD bill-payment payout is free from CAD 25 and takes 3 to 4 business days. Biller count and Bylls history: Not verified.
  • BULL Wallet: Open-source wallet with on-chain, Liquid and Lightning, Payjoin support. Lightning and Liquid-to-Bitcoin swaps run through Boltz, which suspended its service in August 2026, so those two functions fail until further notice. On-chain and Liquid send and receive still work. Bull Bitcoin says no funds are at risk.
  • Recurring buys and Autobuy: Scheduled DCA buys from your balance (hourly over Lightning and Liquid was announced). Autobuy turns every incoming fiat deposit into a buy and pays out to a default address or xpub you save.
  • Bull Bitcoin Prime: Advisory and OTC desk for individuals trading over $25,000, businesses and institutions: unlimited volumes, same-day wires, phone support. Discounted rates above $100,000 in volume.

What Happens To Your Money If BloFin Or Bull Bitcoin Fails?

BloFin: BloFin is not registered with the CSA, is not a CIRO member and has no FINTRAC MSB registration, so no Canadian regulator oversees it. CIPF never covers crypto and BloFin is not a member anyway. Because Canada is a Restricted Location, an account opened from Canada through a VPN or false address can be frozen, with funds inside. We could not verify insurance, proof of reserves or cold storage shares. If the exchange fails or is hacked, a Canadian has no regulator to complain to.

Bull Bitcoin: Bull Bitcoin holds no bitcoin for you, so a failure of the company cannot freeze your coins once they are paid out, but any CAD sitting in your account balance is uninsured and is not a bank, trust or payment account. There is no CSA registration, no CIRO membership and no CIPF, so there is no investor-protection fund behind that balance. A mistaken address, a scam or an unauthorised login is the user's loss under the terms. Lightning and Liquid features inside BULL Wallet depend on a third party, Boltz, which is suspended, so they can be down without any loss of funds.

How Are BloFin And Bull Bitcoin Treated For Tax In Canada?

BloFin: Spot sales, crypto-to-crypto trades and futures settlement are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export or CRA-ready report was verified, so Canadians would have to rebuild records from trade history.

Bull Bitcoin: Every sell, bill payment made with bitcoin and bitcoin-to-CAD conversion is a disposition for CRA purposes, and a buy sets your cost base. Export your history as CSV from My account, Transactions and load it into a tax tool such as Koinly; there is no CRA-ready report or slip.

Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.

Which Should You Choose, BloFin Or Bull Bitcoin?

Choose BloFin If

  • You want a regulated route: pick a CSA-registered platform instead, BloFin does not serve Canadians.
  • You wanted perpetual swaps: BloFin is not an option from Canada, so check a registered dealer's derivatives offer.

Choose Bull Bitcoin If

  • You want bitcoin delivered straight to your own wallet, with Interac, bill pay or wire funding at no fee.
  • You want to pay Canadian bills or credit cards with bitcoin.
  • You trade above $25,000 and want an OTC desk or a corporate account.
  • You do not need altcoins, a card or regulator-backed protection on your cash.

BloFin: Offshore Status

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its Terms of Use list Canada as a Restricted Location. No Canadian investor protection applies. On paper it suits active derivatives traders, but Canadians are not permitted to use it.

Is BloFin Or Bull Bitcoin Better For Canadians In 2026?

Bull Bitcoin, for a Canadian who wants bitcoin. In my ranking BloFin is second at 9.6 and Bull Bitcoin fifth at 8.0, and I stand by both numbers as product ratings. But BloFin lists Canada as a Restricted Location, so its score is a verdict on the product, not an invitation. My full Bull Bitcoin review covers the rest.

They also solve different problems. One is where you go to trade swaps with leverage. The other is where you go to turn Canadian dollars into bitcoin and walk away with the coins in your own wallet.

Which Costs Less When You Actually Trade?

On paper BloFin wins easily. Spot is 0.1% maker and taker, so CAD 1,000 costs CAD 1. Futures are 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker at the Regular tier. Bull Bitcoin has no fee line at all, but the spread I derived is about 2.0% each way, which is roughly CAD 20 on a CAD 1,000 buy before anything else.

The comparison is misleading, though, because BloFin has no CAD route. You would arrive with crypto bought elsewhere, and I cannot price that leg. Bull Bitcoin funding is free by Interac e-Transfer, bill payment and wire. Canada Post cash or debit costs CAD 3.95, from CAD 100 to CAD 7,500.

Which Is Safer For Canadians?

Neither is a CSA platform. Bull Bitcoin (Satoshi Portal Inc., started in Montreal in 2013) holds FINTRAC MSB registration M16730720, valid to 3 November 2027. It has no CIRO membership and no CIPF. BloFin has no FINTRAC match in the registry data I checked, no CSA decision and no CIRO membership.

The custody models are opposites. Bull Bitcoin holds no bitcoin for you, so a company failure cannot freeze coins already paid out, but CAD sitting in your account is uninsured. BloFin is custodial, with insurance, proof of reserves and cold storage share not verified. An account opened from Canada through a false address or a VPN would violate BloFin's terms and can be frozen with funds inside.

Perpetual Swaps Or Bitcoin Sent To Your Own Wallet?

This is the real question. BloFin offers 495 perpetual-swap base assets with leverage up to 150x on the public API, plus copy trading. Those products are not available to Canadians under its terms. Bull Bitcoin offers Bitcoin only, on-chain, Lightning and Liquid, plus recurring buys, an Autobuy that fires on every deposit and buy limit orders.

Bull Bitcoin's weakness is the one you can fix by reading before you buy: a spread near 2% is not cheap for frequent trading. Its strength is that nothing stays behind. On-chain payouts are free from 0.001 BTC and arrive in about an hour. Lightning payouts are free up to 0.15 BTC. Liquid payouts are free from 0.00001 BTC.

There is one wrinkle in Bull Bitcoin's favour that has nothing to do with fees. You trade against its quoted price, so there is no order book to get run over in a thin market, and what you see on the quote screen is what you pay. For a first-time bitcoin buyer, that is easier to live with than a futures ticket with leverage on it.

Who Should Choose BloFin, And Who Should Choose Bull Bitcoin?

Choose Bull Bitcoin if you want bitcoin delivered to your own wallet, want free Interac, bill pay or wire funding, and do not need altcoins or regulator-backed protection on your cash. Open a Bull Bitcoin account if that is you. Choose BloFin only if you are not a Canadian resident. For readers in Canada, it is not an option and a registered dealer is the next place to look.
