Arculus is a metal NFC card with no screen and no recovery phrase to write down. The Ledger Flex is a touchscreen device with a 24-word phrase and a big app. If you want the simplest tap-to-sign card, look at Arculus. If you want a screen that shows what you are signing, look at Ledger.
Arculus Vs Ledger: Which Is Better For Canadians?

What Happens If You Lose Your Arculus Or Ledger Flex?
Arculus: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: page says 'no stored recovery phrases'; buy multiple cards to split or back up crypto (a second card as backup); recovery method detail not. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app.
Ledger Flex: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase; Ledger Recovery Key (NFC) now included with the Flex; optional paid Ledger Recover (Coincover), availability depends on country of ID document. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 7 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-08-27 (Security Bulletins 023, 024, 025: signing-review bypasses).

Which Is More Secure, Arculus Or Ledger?
Both put the keys in a certified chip. Arculus lists a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element inside the card and says it is SOC 2 Type II audited. The Ledger Flex uses an ST33K1M5 secure element, also EAL6+. The big practical difference is the screen. A Flex shows the amount and address on its own display, so malware on your phone cannot quietly change them. An Arculus card has no screen, so you approve with a tap after entering a PIN and biometrics in the app. That relies more on the phone you are holding.
I did not find a documented Arculus security incident in the sources I used. Ledger has a longer public record, partly because it publishes it. The 2020 shop database leak exposed customer contact data but no funds. In August 2026 Ledger published three bulletins on signing-review bypasses that need a compromised host, with no evidence of use against users, listed at Ledger Donjon. Neither Arculus nor Ledger has an open-source firmware claim I could verify.
Which Is Easier To Use?
Arculus wins on simplicity. You tap the card to the phone and approve. There is no cable, no battery and no recovery sheet. The tradeoff is that the Arculus app runs on iOS and Android only, with no desktop app stated, and one customer review notes Huawei phones are unsupported. The recovery method is also not spelled out on the pages I could fetch, so a second card is your backup path. Buy more than one.
The Ledger Flex has a 2.8 inch E Ink touchscreen with Bluetooth, NFC and USB-C, and the Ledger Wallet app runs on iOS, Android and desktop. The device now includes a Ledger Recovery Key card (NFC) next to the 24-word phrase. More parts, more steps, more control.
Which Supports More Coins?
Arculus says 10,000+ coins and tokens, covering over 95% of crypto by market cap, but its own pages disagree on the chain count: 27 blockchains on the homepage and 50+ on the product page. Ledger says 500+ crypto supported directly in the Ledger Wallet app, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and stablecoins, with more through third-party wallets. Check the exact coin you hold on each maker's list before you pay.

Arculus is the cheaper way in, and the 2-pack is the realistic purchase since one card is a single point of failure. Duties for Arculus are unknown. Ledger shows CA$ pricing, so you see the landed number sooner. Ledger Recover availability depends on the country of your ID and is run by Coincover, so read the terms first.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Same drill for both: copy a receiving address from the app, withdraw from your exchange, test with a small amount first. On Coinbase, tick 'Sending to myself' for your own wallet. On NDAX the Travel Rule prompt appears above CAD 1,000, and 'Sending to myself' needs no extra info. Moving crypto between wallets you own is not taxable per the CRA. See my NDAX review.
A word on backups, because that is where these two really part ways. With Ledger you hold a 24-word phrase and, now, a Recovery Key card, so a lost device is a recovery job you can do on paper. With Arculus the card itself is the backup logic, so losing your only card without a spare is the scenario to plan against. Store the second card somewhere separate from the first, and test a restore with a small balance before you trust either setup with real money.
Also think about who might find your wallet. A metal card in a wallet looks like a payment card, which is handy for discretion and bad for casual loss. A Ledger in a drawer is bulkier but harder to misplace. Neither choice is wrong, but it should match how you live.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose Arculus if you want a card you can keep in a wallet, you only hold major coins and you will buy a second card for backup. Choose the Ledger Flex if you want a screen to check every transaction, a desktop app and a bigger ecosystem, and you accept the heavier incident history. For an easy tap card with Canadian pricing and a promo code, my Tangem comparison is worth a look. My Ledger Flex review has the longer story.
What Has Happened With Arculus And Ledger?
Ledger published Security Bulletins 023, 024 and 025 on signing-review bypasses, with no evidence of exploitation (Donjon).
Ledger's payments partner Global-e had a cloud access incident that touched international order data, not wallet data or funds (The Block).
Ledger announced the optional paid Ledger Recover seed-backup service, which drew criticism because firmware could export a seed (Ledger).
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Better Than Ledger?
It depends on the job. For an open-source touchscreen I would look at the Trezor Safe 7, my number one. For a simple card, Tangem or Arculus. See the best crypto wallets in Canada list.
What Is The Most Trusted Cold Wallet?
Trust comes from public code, a track record and your own backups. I rank Trezor Safe 7, Tangem and Ledger Flex as my top three today. Arculus is not in my top seven.
Is Arculus A Good Cold Wallet?
It is a simple, cheap NFC card with an EAL6+ chip and no screen. The weak points are the missing screen, an app on mobile only and a recovery method that is not spelled out on its public pages.
Is My Crypto Safe On Arculus Wallet?
The keys sit in a certified chip and I found no documented incident, but you approve on a phone with no device screen. Buy a second card as backup and download the app only from the official stores.
