SOLQ is the ticker of the 3iQ Solana Staking ETF, a fund on the Toronto Stock Exchange that holds Solana directly and passes on staking rewards. It began trading on April 16, 2025, alongside three other Canadian spot Solana ETFs, after Ontario Securities Commission approval. I do not score funds, and I could not verify SOLQ's current fee after its first-year waiver, so check the fund page before buying.
Canada was the first country to list spot Solana ETFs that include staking, and "SOLQ" is the name people search. This page explains the product, what a Canadian can verify about it, and when buying Solana directly makes more sense.
| Fund | Verified Facts | Not Verified |
|---|---|---|
| 3iQ Solana Staking ETF (SOLQ, SOLQ.U) | TSX listing from April 16, 2025; holds SOL directly; 0% management fee for 12 months; SkyBridge Capital made a $50 million lead investment | Current fee, MER, custodian name, staking provider named in the release |
| Other Solana ETFs | Four issuers launched spot SOL ETFs on the TSX on April 16, 2025: CI Asset Management, Purpose Investments, 3iQ and Evolve | Tickers, fees and staking terms for the other three |
| 3iQ XRP ETF (XRPQ) | On the TSX in June 2025; 0% management fee for the first six months; Ripple was an early investor; C$32 million in assets after launch | Current fee, custodian |
What Does SOLQ Mean?
SOLQ is simply the TSX ticker for 3iQ's Solana fund. The "Q" is 3iQ's house style, as in XRPQ and BTCQ. SOLQ.U is the same fund's US dollar unit. If your broker shows only a ticker, check that it matches the issuer's name and the exchange.
What Is The 3iQ Solana Staking ETF?
It is an exchange-traded fund that buys Solana and stakes it, with the goal of letting investors earn staking rewards without running a validator. 3iQ's launch release says the fund invests in SOL purchased from leading digital asset trading platforms and over-the-counter counterparties and provides staking rewards. Staking is not guaranteed income and the SOL price can fall, so it is a volatile asset in a fund wrapper. The launch release does not name a staking provider or custodian, and one outside report names Figment as the primary staking provider, which I did not verify with the issuer.
Is SOLQ Legit?
It is listed on the TSX, and its launch followed Ontario Securities Commission approval of the Canadian spot Solana ETFs, so it is a regulated fund and not a scam product. "Legit" does not mean low risk. You still carry the full price risk of Solana, plus the fund's fees and the staking risks. Scammers do copy ticker names, so only buy through your own brokerage account and never through a link in a message.
Which Solana ETF Is The Best In Canada?
I cannot honestly rank them, because I could not verify fees and staking terms for all four. Compare these points on each fund's page: management fee and MER after any waiver, what share of the SOL is staked, who holds the coins, and the unit currency. Then look at trading volume on the TSX to check that the spread is tight. A fund with a 0% first-year fee gets a reset to a normal fee when the waiver ends.
Should I Buy A Solana ETF Or Solana Itself?
Pros
- Held in a normal brokerage account, no wallet to manage
- Staking rewards are handled for you
- No need to learn exchange funding
Cons
- Fund fees, whereas owning SOL costs only trading fees
- You cannot send fund units to a wallet or use them in apps
- Registered account eligibility for these funds should be confirmed with your broker; I could not verify it
If you want the coin, it is listed on Coinbase, Kraken, Newton and NDAX among CSA-registered platforms on my list, and Wealthsimple Crypto says it trades Solana as well. See how to buy Solana in Canada for the exact fee table. The CRA says staking rewards earned on a centralized exchange are income when credited to the wallet on the platform, and my staking and taxes guide covers the details. XRP buyers have the same choice: the coin on registered platforms (how to buy XRP) or XRPQ on the TSX.
What Are Three ETFs I Can Buy And Hold Forever?
I do not give "hold forever" advice on crypto products, and nobody can promise one. For the more conventional crypto funds I track, see my Bitcoin ETFs in Canada and crypto ETFs in Canada pages.
How Does Staking Solana Directly Compare With Staking Through A Fund?
If staking is the draw, check the platform terms I have verified before you assume a fund is the only route. The percentages below are the platforms' own estimates, not guarantees.
| Platform | What It Says | Fee Taken From Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase | Stake SOL and other coins for up to 10% APY in eligible jurisdictions | 35% standard commission |
| Wealthsimple Crypto | Stake and earn up to 5% per year | 30% on Core and Premium, 15% on Generation, plus validator fees |
| Newton | SOL staking up to 4.5% shown, estimates not guaranteed | Not retrieved |
| NDAX | Opt-in staking | 20% administration fee on staking and Auto Earn rewards |
| Kraken | Staking available to Canadians, with exclusions such as Opt-in Rewards | Not retrieved |
A fund wraps this in a brokerage account and a management fee. Direct staking gives you the coin but also the lockup and platform risk. Compare the net yield after the fee on both, not the headline rate.
What Are The Main Risks Of A Solana Staking ETF?
- Price risk. The fund holds Solana, and Solana's price is volatile. Staking rewards do not offset a large drop.
- Fee risk. A 0% fee for the first year is a launch promotion. When the waiver ends, the fee resets to the fund's standard rate.
- Staking risk. Staked coins can be locked for a period, which matters if the fund needs to meet redemptions.
- Concentration. A single-coin fund is a single bet. An index fund spreads that, but I did not verify the terms of any multi-coin product.
- Tax. Selling units is a capital disposition. Staking rewards are treated separately when you hold the coin yourself, per the CRA.
What Should I Read Before Buying Any Crypto ETF?
The fund facts sheet or prospectus, which the issuer posts on its fund page. Look at what the fund holds, who is the custodian and the auditor, whether the fee changes after a waiver, whether it stakes and what share of the coin is staked, and the MER. Then check the bid and ask spread on the exchange at the time you want to trade. A fund with low trading volume can cost more to buy than its fee suggests.
What Would $500 Of Solana Cost To Buy Directly?
| Platform | Published Cost | On $500 |
|---|---|---|
| NDAX | Flat 0.20% | $1.00 |
| Kraken Pro | 0.40% maker, 0.80% taker at the base tier | $2.00 to $4.00 |
| Wealthsimple Crypto | 0.5% fee plus a spread on market orders | $2.50 plus the spread |
| Newton | Tier 2 assets (LTC, SOL, XLM): 1.25% to 1.45% | $6.25 to $7.25 |
| Coinbase | Up to 1.875% fee on simple buys plus spread | Up to about $9.38 plus spread |
That is the cost to get in. The fund route adds a yearly fee on top, and I could not verify SOLQ's after the first-year waiver. Fund eligibility for registered accounts is a separate question for your broker.
What Changed For Solana And XRP ETFs In Canada In October 2026?
- 3iQ's XRP ETF (XRPQ) launched on the TSX and reached C$32 million in assets in its first days.
- SOLQ and three other spot Solana ETFs began trading on the TSX after OSC approval.
- SOLQ's 0% management fee was set to run for its first 12 months, so the waiver should now have ended; I could not verify the current fee.
