Robinhood Crypto Canada Review 2026: What Bitbuy Users Need To Know

Last updated October 2, 2026

Fact-checked by Canadian crypto tradersHow we testWe may earn a commission

Robinhood Crypto Canada is the Robinhood app's crypto service for Canadians, run through Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd. (CCML), a CIRO Dealer Member that is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Robinhood Markets, Inc. It charges a flat 0.50% of the CAD value on every buy and sell, with a minimum of CAD 0.01 per order and no account maintenance or deposit fees. It lists 50+ coins, supports crypto transfers out, and is where Bitbuy and Coinsquare customers are being moved after Robinhood closed its WonderFi purchase on June 1, 2026.

It suits existing Bitbuy and Coinsquare users who want a simple flat fee and people who already like the Robinhood app. It is not in my top 10, I have not scored it, and I have no sign-up link for it. I have not used it myself, so everything below comes from Robinhood's own fee, transfer and limits pages. If you are choosing a platform from scratch, my top pick is still Coinbase (9.9/10).

  • Existing Bitbuy or Coinsquare user: wait for your invitation and read the move section below
  • New to crypto in Canada: start with Coinbase, or compare the full ranked list

Is Robinhood Crypto Available In Canada?

Yes. Robinhood's Canadian site says accounts are held by Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd., a CIRO Dealer Member that provides order-execution-only services. CIRO approved the change of control on May 20, 2026, and Robinhood completed its acquisition of WonderFi, the parent of both Bitbuy and Coinsquare, on June 1, 2026. So this is not an offshore app trying to serve Canadians. It is a Canadian dealer with a new owner.

Trading limits are the part to read before you fund an account. Robinhood applies Net Purchase Limits to restricted coins, while BTC, ETH, LTC and BCH are listed as unrestricted. The size of your limit depends on your province and investor classification, and the limits page is the place to check your own number.

One thing I want to be plain about: Robinhood is not one of the ten exchanges I rank. I have not tested it, so there is no score here and no affiliate link. Treat this page as a research summary, not a hands-on review.

What Are Robinhood Crypto's Fees In Canada?

The fee page describes a single trading fee on each order: 0.50% of the CAD value of the executed amount, on buys and sells, with a minimum of CAD 0.01 per order. The fee is based on the value when the trade executes, not when you place it. There are no Robinhood account maintenance or deposit fees. From time to time Robinhood offers limited-time 0% fees on specific coins, and the app shows the fee before you confirm.

On a CAD 500 purchase, 0.50% is CAD 2.50. Sell the same CAD 500 and you pay another CAD 2.50. The page does not publish a separate spread figure, so I cannot tell you whether the quoted price carries one. Compare the quote against another platform before a large trade.

Cost Of A CAD 500 Buy
PlatformPublished Fee StructureFee Shown On CAD 500
Robinhood Canada0.50% per tradeCAD 2.50
Wealthsimple Crypto0.5% plus a spread on market ordersCAD 2.50 plus spread (the schedule's own example pairs 0.50% with a 1.00% spread)
NewtonNo fee; spread from 1.00% on BTC, ETH and USDCAbout CAD 5.00 or more, built into the price
CoinbaseUp to 1.875% fee plus spread on simple buysUp to CAD 9.38 plus spread

Those other figures come from each platform's own published schedule. A spread is not a line item, so the true cost depends on the quote you see at the moment you trade.

What Happens To My Bitbuy Account?

Bitbuy's own Robinhood page lays out the process. Customers get an email or in-app invitation, then log in to the Robinhood app with their existing Bitbuy credentials. After you switch, the Bitbuy app becomes read-only: your history and statements stay viewable, but you cannot trade there. Bitbuy will be retired once everyone has moved.

A small number of Bitbuy coins are not supported at Robinhood's launch, and holders of those are contacted directly. If you would rather not move, Bitbuy says you can withdraw your CAD and send your crypto to an external wallet before your transition window.

My advice is practical. Open the invitation only from the official Bitbuy or Robinhood channels, since migrations like this attract phishing. Read the new terms and fee schedule before accepting. If you do not like what you see, withdraw first and then decide where to go next. The background is in my WonderFi and Robinhood guide and the Bitbuy review.

Can You Withdraw Crypto From Robinhood Canada?

Yes, with conditions. Robinhood's transfer page says you can send and receive crypto with no Robinhood fee, though network fees still apply. You need identity verification and two-factor authentication first, and enabling transfers can take up to 5 business days. Not every tradable coin can be transferred out, so check the specific coin before you buy it with a plan to self-custody.

Bitcoin has two limits worth knowing. Robinhood does not support Lightning, and it does not support taproot (bc1p) addresses. If your hardware wallet hands you a bc1p address, you will need a different receiving address. For CAD, the platform supports Interac e-Transfer and domestic wire. Some users on Reddit report Interac funding delays and slow support, which is one anecdote thread and not a measured failure rate, but it is a reason to start with a small deposit.

Is Robinhood Crypto Safe In Canada?

The structure is the same as other Canadian dealers. CCML is a CIRO Dealer Member, and Robinhood says crypto is held in trust with approved custodians and that it does not lend customer crypto or use it to back leveraged positions. CAD balances are held in segregated accounts at a Canadian bank and are covered by CIPF within limits.

Crypto itself is not covered by CIPF. That is true at Newton and Wealthsimple Crypto as well, so it is not a mark against Robinhood alone. It does mean no deposit-insurance-style backstop if a custodian fails. Keep on the platform only what you are trading, and move long-term holdings to your own wallet.

Does Robinhood Canada Offer Staking?

Not yet. Robinhood's Canadian homepage lists staking for ETH and SOL as "coming soon", with no launch date or rate published. If staking matters to you, Wealthsimple Crypto advertises up to 5% per year with a 30% fee on rewards for Core and Premium accounts, and Newton shows up to 4.5% APY on SOL. Both are estimates, not guarantees.

How Does Robinhood Compare With Coinbase, Wealthsimple And Newton?

Robinhood wins on fee clarity. Coinbase wins on coin range and, for me, overall experience, which is why it sits first. Wealthsimple suits people who already invest there, and Newton suits those who want free funding through a CIRO dealer and accept a spread.
