MyBTC.ca is a Toronto Bitcoin and Ether broker that has run since 2016. It is a FINTRAC-registered money services business, it sends your coins straight to your own wallet, and it answers the phone. The trade-off is cost: its Interac e-Transfer deposit fee is 7.75% (with a $10 minimum), and selling costs another 4.95%. It is not part of my top 10 ranking because cheaper options exist, but it is the best-known human-support option in Canadian crypto.

  • Best for: first-time buyers who want to talk to a person, and large occasional purchases by bill payment or wire
  • Skip it if: you buy often, buy small amounts or want any coin beyond Bitcoin and Ether
  • Cheaper non-custodial options: Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Beaver Bitcoin

Is MyBTC.ca Legit And Safe For Canadians?

MyBTC.ca Review: Screenshot of the MyBTC.ca homepage with "Tried, Trusted & True!" banner.

MyBTC.ca is a legitimate, FINTRAC-registered Canadian crypto broker. FINTRAC's registry lists 2456307 Ontario Inc., operating as MyBTC.ca, as registered for virtual currency services until June 24, 2028. The company says it is regulated as a money services business and reports to FINTRAC for anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer purposes. FINTRAC registration is an anti-money-laundering registration, not a securities registration, so it does not give you the investor protections a CSA-registered platform does.

The platform launched in 2016 after its CEO spent two years as an individual Bitcoin broker, completing 10,000+ trades with more than 3,000 people. That history shapes the product: it is built around trust, human communication and reliability, not features. The non-custodial model is its most important safety feature. MyBTC.ca asks you to send purchased coins to an external wallet, so the platform is not holding your Bitcoin. The only thing it holds is your CAD while a transaction processes. That removes the risk of losing your coins in an exchange hack or insolvency.

Security and compliance measures: FINTRAC registration with KYC and AML checks, identity verification with government ID before you trade, phone verification for new accounts, and two-factor authentication on your account. MyBTC.ca says it runs on dedicated hardware in a secure cloud provider, with encrypted communications and Cloudflare protection. Beware of impersonators: scammers copy the brand on social media, so only use the contact details on mybtc.ca. See my guide to common crypto scams in Canada.

What Is MyBTC.ca's Track Record In Canada?

MyBTC.ca launched in Toronto in 2016 and says it has been a compliant exchange ever since. Its CEO had been working in the Bitcoin space since 2014 and kept a 100% feedback score as a broker across more than 10,000 trades with over 3,000 people before he built the platform. The company says it became an authorized merchant for Interac and Flexepin and keeps its funds at a Canadian financial institution. Those are the company's own statements, and I treat them as that. What I can verify is the FINTRAC registration. The site also publishes educational articles, Bitcoin and Ether price charts and a converter, which are useful when you are working out what a purchase will cost.

How Do You Sign Up And Verify On MyBTC.ca?

Mybtc.ca sign up procees step 1 - phone

MyBTC.ca's own walkthrough has seven steps. You pick a payment option, enter your phone number and press the text button to start; confirm your email through a link sent to your inbox; enter basic details such as name, address and date of birth; answer a few questions about how you intend to use the account; complete identity verification; fund your balance with any listed method; and place your order for Bitcoin or Ether. The sign-up is the most detailed of any Canadian Bitcoin broker I have looked at, because it follows FINTRAC know-your-customer rules, which means contact details, residential address, occupation and purpose of account, and proof of identity.

What Does Identity Verification Involve?

You verify online. If your name and address are confirmed automatically through its verification partners, you upload a clear close-up photo of a valid government-issued photo ID in full colour on its own, then a clear photo of yourself holding that ID next to a handwritten note with the text MyBTC.ca asks for and today's date. MyBTC.ca says black and white copies are not accepted, and that health cards are not accepted from users in provinces where provincial law prohibits it. The site says submissions are usually approved within an hour, which is faster than the day I had budgeted in earlier reviews, though my experience is that busy periods and manual reviews can take longer. Photos with good lighting work better than screenshots or scans. If a document is rejected for something minor like blurry edges, resubmit with a better photo before contacting support, which is faster.

What Happens On Your First Order?

MyBTC.ca says all first-time transactions are held until manually verified for compliance and fraud prevention, and that once your first order is complete, later orders are sent immediately. That matches the phone call new users describe: a team member confirms your account and walks you through the first transaction. For a complete beginner, the friction plus the human help is often exactly what they need. Have your wallet address ready, since you will be asked where to send your coins, and double-check it, because a coin sent to a wrong address cannot be recalled.

How Does The Order Screen Work?

The live rate moves with the market, so the price on screen can change while you read it. Once you confirm with your SMS PIN on the order page and press checkout, your order and rate are locked in. After MyBTC.ca sends your coins they begin confirming on the blockchain, and the number of confirmations your wallet requires varies. A good rule of thumb is about ten minutes per Bitcoin confirmation.

How Do You Fund A MyBTC.ca Account?

Interac Transfers

After verification you get Interac e-Transfer instructions unique to your profile. Send the transfer from your online banking and MyBTC.ca says it takes roughly 0 to 30 minutes for your bank and the Interac network to deliver the funds. Once received, the deposit is automatic, your balance updates and you get an email telling you to create your order. Almost every Canadian bank and credit union offers e-Transfer.

Bank Wire And Bill Payment For Large Purchases

For $10,000 to $500,000 there is bank wire funding. You request it from the funding page, and you are emailed a set of compliance questions. The sooner you answer, the sooner you get wire instructions. Bill payment, listed on the fee page at 3.95% for $10,000 to $100,000, lets you add MyBTC.ca as a payee in online banking. Confirm with your bank that it allows payments to a crypto platform before you rely on it for a time-sensitive purchase.

Flexepin Vouchers

Flexepin is a prepaid voucher you buy with cash or a debit card at outlets across Canada or online. It carries a unique 16-digit code that you redeem on MyBTC.ca for instant funding. You must complete ID verification first, and the site lists a daily limit on vouchers, so check the current figure.

Credit And Debit Card

Cards are processed immediately and cost about 9.75%, so they are the expensive option. Use them only when nothing else works. Limits on the FAQ page differ from the fee page in places, so treat the fee page as the current word and check your own limits when you fund.

How Do You Sell Bitcoin Or Ether And Get CAD Out?

You sell by sending your coins to the auto-sell address on the sell page. Once a Bitcoin order reaches 2 blockchain confirmations, or Ether reaches 12, its value converts to CAD and you can request a withdrawal. Options are Interac e-Transfer, bank transfer for larger amounts, and, per its FAQ, loading a MyBTC.ca prepaid Visa card. Withdrawal limits shown on the FAQ page differ from the fee page, so look at the withdraw page for your own limits. Sell fees are 4.95%, so selling is the expensive half of the round trip.

Where Should You Store Your Bitcoin And Ether?

MyBTC.ca asks you to send purchased coins to an external wallet, and its FAQ suggests an app wallet like Exodus or a hardware wallet from Trezor or Ledger for the most security. That is the right instinct. A wallet you control protects you from exchange failures. See my best crypto wallets for Canadians, and my Ledger Flex and Tangem reviews if you want a hardware wallet. Write your recovery phrase on paper and keep it offline.

How Much Does MyBTC.ca Really Cost?

MyBTC.ca has the highest fees of any Canadian crypto platform I reviewed. Interac e-Transfer deposits cost 7.75% with a $10 minimum, and sell orders cost 4.95%. Bill payment is 3.95% and bank wire 4.75%, which are more reasonable for larger amounts. The fees are fully disclosed up front, which is at least honest.

What Does A Real Transaction Cost?

I deposited $100 via Interac e-Transfer. The 7.75% deposit fee on $100 is $7.75, but the minimum applies, so I paid $10.00. That left $90.00 to buy Bitcoin. Since the purchase is under $500, I also paid a $5.00 order fee, leaving $85 worth of Bitcoin. I then sold that Bitcoin (4.95% sell fee on $85 is $4.21), receiving about $80.79 in CAD. I withdrew via Interac ($5.00 flat), receiving about $75.79. Total cost on a $100 round trip: about $24.21, or 24.2%. That is the highest all-in cost I have seen on any Canadian platform.

At scale it gets more reasonable. A $10,000 purchase by bank wire at 4.75% costs $475 on deposit, with no order fee. A $10,000 sell at 4.95% costs about $495, plus a $10 bank transfer withdrawal fee. A round trip at that size is about $980, or roughly 9.8%. Better, but still expensive.

How Does MyBTC.ca Make Money?

MyBTC.ca Review: Screenshot of MyBTC.ca Interac e-Transfer instructions with recipient details.

MyBTC.ca earns from deposit fees, order fees, sell fees and withdrawal fees. Its pricing shows these as separate line items instead of a spread, so the Bitcoin price you see reflects the market rate and every cost is disclosed before you commit. Platforms like Bull Bitcoin and Bitcoin Well build their margin into the spread. The result at MyBTC.ca is a higher total cost in most cases, with complete visibility.

What Features Does MyBTC.ca Offer?

You can buy and sell Bitcoin and Ether, fund with five methods, withdraw by Interac or bank transfer, use the mobile app and the Bitcoin and Ether price charts, and join a referral program. There is no staking, no futures, no altcoins and no advanced order types. It is a buy-and-hold service, not a trading platform.

24/7 Human Support: Phone, Text, Email, Messenger

This is MyBTC.ca's most distinctive feature. Its site says to say goodbye to frustrating chatbots and talk to a real human for fast, personalized help, by phone, text, email or Facebook Messenger, and it publishes 647-875-6717 and 604-844-9072 and live chat. For Canadians buying Bitcoin for the first time, a real human to call is meaningfully different from other options. My own test at 9:02pm got a response by 7:00am, a 10-hour gap that is not instant but is genuine support, not an automated acknowledgment. Treat "24/7" as availability, not an instant reply at all hours.

Five Deposit Methods

Most Canadian non-custodial Bitcoin platforms support only Interac and wire transfer. MyBTC.ca adds bill payment (add it as a payee in your online banking, $10,000 to $100,000 at 3.95%), credit and debit cards (instant but about 9.75%) and Flexepin vouchers (a cash-based voucher for $20 to $500). Not all banks support bill payments to crypto platforms, so confirm with yours before relying on it for a time-sensitive purchase.

Mobile App And Referral Program

MyBTC.ca has an app, and its site lists a QR code to download it. Recurring buys are possible, though at 7.75% on Interac they cost far more than DCA at Beaver Bitcoin, which lists a 1.5% fee. The referral program credits $15 to you and to the person you refer when they spend $100 or more, and the funds go toward future orders. Sign up through my link here: MyBTC.ca.

How Does MyBTC.ca Compare To Other Canadian Bitcoin Platforms?

MyBTC.ca is the most expensive non-custodial Bitcoin option at the Interac level. It wins on payment variety, order size and human support. For cost-conscious buyers, every platform below is cheaper.

What Are The Biggest Complaints About MyBTC.ca?

MyBTC.ca customer satisfaction page displaying six 5-star customer reviews.

Fees. This is not a complaint in the usual sense, since the fees are disclosed before you commit. But every comparison points the same way. A $100 Interac purchase costs $10 in deposit fees alone. Every other non-custodial platform above is materially cheaper, and the fee is the price of the human support.

Verification. A long sign-up with document uploads and manual review can take up to a business day. If you were verified in minutes elsewhere you will find this slow. The reward is a call from the team and a smooth experience afterward.

Small purchases. Purchases under $500 carry a $5 order fee on top of the Interac deposit fee. On $50: a $10 minimum deposit fee plus $5 equals $15, or 30%. It becomes more reasonable above $1,000, where the percentage dominates the flat minimums.

Experience with MyBTC.ca customer support

Response times. The phone and text lines exist and are staffed by real people, but as noted my test message waited overnight.

What Do You Do If You Lose Access Or Change Phone Numbers?

Login runs on a text message to your phone and a confirmation link to your email, so a new phone number can lock you out. MyBTC.ca says to email its helpdesk from the address on your account, and it may ask for extra information before it links the profile to your new number. Plan for that before you change carriers. The company also says that using several channels at once does not speed up a reply: pick the one that suits you, and it will answer through the same method. Keep your order and funding history, which you can view once you are logged in, since it doubles as your tax record.

How Is Bitcoin Bought Through MyBTC.ca Taxed In Canada?

The CRA treats crypto as a commodity. Selling coins, or swapping them, is a disposal that can create a gain or loss, and whether it counts as a capital gain or business income depends on your activity. The fees you pay on deposit, buy and sell orders are part of your cost, and the high fees here make accurate records matter. Save every funding confirmation, order and withdrawal. A tool like CoinLedger or Koinly can import your history through CSV. See my guide to crypto taxation in Canada.

Who Should Use MyBTC.ca, And Who Should Not?

MyBTC.ca Review: Screenshot of the MyBTC.ca homepage highlighting its features as a non-custodial exchange.

MyBTC.ca suits Canadians who value human support over cost, first-time buyers who want to speak to a person before committing money, and people making large occasional purchases where the dollar fee matters less than confidence. It is not for cost-conscious buyers, frequent traders or anyone who wants altcoins.

Pros

  • You are buying Bitcoin for the first time and want to speak to a human
  • You value phone and text support over minimizing fees
  • You are making a large, infrequent purchase, where bill payment at 3.95% is more reasonable
  • You need card or Flexepin options
  • You want a non-custodial platform with a long Canadian track record
  • You are less comfortable with technology and want phone support

Cons

  • You want the lowest fees: Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Beaver Bitcoin are cheaper
  • You buy often, since the 7.75% Interac fee compounds
  • You are making small test purchases under $500
  • You want altcoins beyond BTC and ETH
  • You want staking, limit orders or advanced features

What Is A Sensible Way To Use MyBTC.ca If You Do Choose It?

Do one thing at a time. Verify your identity, then make a modest first purchase over $500 so the $5 order fee does not apply, send the coins straight to your own wallet and confirm they arrive. If you plan to buy more, batch your purchases into fewer, larger orders, because the minimums punish small and frequent buys, and use bill payment or wire for large amounts. If you find yourself buying every month, price a switch to Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well or Beaver Bitcoin, which cost far less for the same coins.

Is MyBTC.ca Worth It In 2026?

MyBTC.ca occupies a specific position that no other platform fills quite the same way. It is not the cheapest, not the quickest to verify and not the most featured. But it is the most human platform in Canadian crypto, and for a certain buyer that matters more than any fee comparison. In a space where most support is chatbots, templates and queues, picking up the phone and talking to a person in Toronto has real value.

The honest accounting is that anyone concerned mainly with cost has better options. Bull Bitcoin, Beaver Bitcoin and Bitcoin Well are cheaper for the same non-custodial Bitcoin purchase, and a CSA-registered platform like NDAX is cheaper again. If you still want MyBTC.ca, sign up here: MyBTC.ca, and fund at least $100 so the referral credit kicks in. Not sure? Take the exchange quiz or ask in r/OCryptoCanada.

What Changed For MyBTC.ca In October 2026?

  • MyBTC.ca's fee page lists bill payment deposits at 3.95% for $10,000 to $100,000, alongside Interac at 7.75% and bank wire at 4.75%.
  • Its referral program credits $15 to both people when a new client funds $100 or more.
  • FINTRAC's registry shows 2456307 Ontario Inc. (MyBTC.ca) registered until June 24, 2028.
