Immutable (IMX) isn’t your average crypto, it’s the token tied to Immutable’s NFT and gaming platform built around Ethereum. Canadians might be hooked on its gaming and digital collectible buzz, whether you’re chilling in Vancouver or out on the Prairies.

A quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in. I am not quoting a live IMX price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and judge any coin by what it does rather than by a chart. The facts below come from the project's own site, docs or whitepaper, or from the wallet vendor's own support pages.

What Is Immutable, And What Is IMX For?

IMX is the native token of Immutable Chain, issued by the IMX Ecosystem Foundation, and it is used for gas and can be staked there. Immutable Chain is described as a gaming-optimised blockchain built on Ethereum, with Ethereum as its mainnet parent chain. Mainnet uses chain ID 13371, roughly 2-second blocks and finality, EIP-1559 gas and the Cancun EVM version with 18 decimals. It does not support blob transactions, PREVRANDAO always returns 0, and the minimum priority fee is 10 gwei.

There is a history to know. Immutable X was merged into Immutable Chain in early 2026. All Immutable X functionality is deprecated, and ERC-20 tokens and ETH moved automatically to users' existing wallets through a bridge contract upgrade. The docs say NFT migration varied by project, so users should check with each game.

Which Version Of IMX Do You Hold?

IMX is native on Immutable Chain mainnet and exists as an ERC-20 on Ethereum at contract 0xf57e7e7c23978c3caec3c3548e3d615c346e79ff. wIMX is an ERC-20 representation of IMX on Immutable Chain, and withdrawals to Ethereum accept native IMX or wIMX and deliver ERC-20 IMX on Ethereum. The docs say IMX can be acquired through the canonical bridge from Ethereum or from third-party exchanges, and bridging ERC-20 IMX from Ethereum credits native IMX.

How Safe Is The Immutable Bridge?

The canonical bridge is Axelar-based. Deposits take about 15 to 30 minutes and withdrawals up to 24 hours, with LayerSwap and Squid as faster alternatives. Large withdrawals above set thresholds within a 4-hour window are queued for 24 hours, and withdrawals exceeding capacity can trigger manual review delays. On security, the docs reference audited bridge contracts and an Immutable geth fork whose source is on GitHub, and the bridge infrastructure has a Trail of Bits audit and Perimeter fuzzing reports published on GitHub. An audit lowers risk, it does not remove it.

Coinbase is a CSA Restricted Dealer, which makes it the easiest registered place to start. Interac e-Transfer and bank EFT are free for adding Canadian dollars. BloFin lists IMX, with spot fees of 0.1% and no CAD funding. Its Terms of Use name Canada as a restricted location, so a Canadian account would break them. Read my BloFin review.

Bitunix lists IMX, with spot fees of 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker at the base tier and no CAD funding. Its restricted regions notice names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.

Crypto.com serves Canadians through Foris DAX CAN ULC, a CSA Restricted Dealer. Its Canadian marketing says maker and taker fees run as low as 0.08% and 0.18%, but I could not retrieve its Canadian fee schedule, so treat that as a best case and read the order preview. How Do You Buy Immutable (IMX) In Canada Step By Step?

1. Sign up to Coinbase. I use Coinbase here because it is the first CSA-registered platform in the table above that lists IMX. Download the app or use the website.
2. Verify your identity. Upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours, so do it before you plan to buy.
3. Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer and bank EFT are free for adding cash on Coinbase, and card and PayPal also work for buying, but they usually cost more.
4. Find IMX. Search for the name and the ticker and check that both match. Some tickers are shared by unrelated coins, so confirm you picked Immutable.
5. Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Read the fee preview, because a simple buy can cost up to 1.875% plus the spread.

Which Wallets Support Immutable (IMX), And How Do You Move It There?

Passport is Immutable's non-custodial embedded wallet, and users can also link external wallets such as MetaMask, WalletConnect or hardware wallets. Immutable says Passport users own their keys and Immutable acts as a co-signer for security policies, not a custodian, and that account deletion is permanent.

When you withdraw from an exchange, decide first whether you want ERC-20 IMX on Ethereum or native IMX on Immutable Chain, match the network on the withdrawal screen to that choice, and send a small test amount first.

How Risky Is Immutable (IMX)?

Any coin outside the top few can fall hard and trade thinly, and IMX is no exception. Thin trading means a wider gap between the buy and sell price, and that gap is a real cost on a small order. Buy only what you can lose, and decide in advance whether this is a trade or a long-term hold. I do not make price predictions, and nobody else can either.

How Do You Store Immutable (IMX)?

Keeping your IMX safe is something you must do if you do not want to risk it being stolen. For safekeeping, use a private crypto wallet. Choose one of the crypto wallets I reviewed, and then send your IMX from the exchange you used to buy it to your wallet. If you buy any valuable cryptocurrency, always move it to a private wallet to keep it secure. Check that the wallet supports the coin and its network first, because sending to an unsupported address can lose the funds for good. Write your recovery phrase on paper, never store it in a photo or a cloud note, and never share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.

How Do You Sell Immutable (IMX) In Canada?

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Immutable (IMX) In Canada?
