Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

To buy Cartesi (CTSI) in Canada, use a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars and buy. On my scorecard that means Coinbase, Kraken and Crypto.com. Coinbase comes first in the table below, and CTSI is on its asset list.

BTCC and Bitunix also lists CTSI but are offshore, so read the labels in the table before you consider them.

  1. Coinbase, 9.8: CSA-registered, Up to 1.875% on simple buys, plus spread
  2. Kraken, 9.2: CSA-registered, Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1%
  3. BTCC, 7.0: offshore, 0.2% maker / 0.3% taker
  4. Bitunix: offshore,
  5. Crypto.com: CSA-registered, Not published for Canada

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

Why Buy Cartesi (CTSI)?

Cartesi (CTSI) isn’t just another cryptocurrency. It’s the fuel for a blockchain platform that brings real-world computing to smart contracts, making dApps more powerful and practical. Canadians might be drawn to its innovative tech, whether you’re in Vancouver or the Prairies.

I am not quoting a live CTSI price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price. And a quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so weigh the ups and downs before jumping in.

What Is Cartesi (CTSI) And What Is It Used For?

Cartesi’s website describes an Ethereum layer 2 that pairs full Linux execution with blockchain settlement. Applications run complex computations off-chain inside the Cartesi Machine, a reproducible RISC-V machine running a full Linux operating system, with languages like Python, Rust, C++ and Go available. Validators verify results, and disputes settle on Ethereum.

Cartesi Rollups gives each application its own computational space, isolated from unrelated activity, and it uses a fraud-proof system with a permissionless challenge mechanism. CTSI’s stated roles are governance and staking.

For someone who just wants to buy CTSI, none of that machinery changes the purchase. It matters if you later stake or use the network, because the several-day settlement window and the bridge are properties of the system you would be relying on. Read Cartesi’s current staking and bridge documentation first, and start with an amount you can leave untouched.

What Risks Come With Cartesi (CTSI)?

Cartesi’s own site is candid about trade-offs. Final settlement takes several days because of the dispute window, the system does not offer instant finality, and cross-chain liquidity depends on a trust-minimized bridge to Ethereum. Bridges are a recurring source of loss across crypto, so treat that dependency seriously.

Staking mechanics were not detailed on the page I read, so check the current staking terms before you lock tokens.

Where Can You Buy Cartesi (CTSI) In Canada?

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include CTSI, in my fixed order. Wealthsimple Crypto, Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Shakepay are left out because I could not confirm a CTSI listing on any of them. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.

Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.

How Do The Fees Compare?

Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker and drops with volume, while Instant Buy costs 1% plus spread; Coinbase is the simplest app but charges up to 1.875% plus spread on a simple buy; Crypto.com’s Canadian fee schedule is not published, so I can’t compare it.

Fees change, so treat the published numbers above as a guide and read the fee preview on the order screen before you confirm.

1

Coinbase: Best Overall Crypto Exchange In Canada

9.8/10

Best for: first-time buyers who want a large, familiar app with Interac funding.

CSA-registered Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories, with a Canada-specific user agreement. Fiat balances are not covered by CIPF or CDIC.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyUp to 1.875% Coinbase fee on a simple buy (varies by payment method), about $9.38 on $500, plus the spread
  • CAD FundingInterac e-Transfer and bank EFT are free to add cash; card and PayPal are also offered for buying.

It scores 9.8 out of 10 on my scorecard. I found CTSI on Coinbase’s exchange product list. That list is global and Canadian availability on coinbase.com/en-ca is narrower, so search for CTSI in the Canadian app before you fund an account.

My Coinbase video review.
3

Kraken: Best For Lower Fees And Deeper Coin Choice

9.2/10

Best for: buyers who want a wide coin list and lower fees on Kraken Pro once they are past the first purchase.

CSA-registered Restricted Dealer, operated in Canada by Payward Canada Inc.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyKraken Pro taker 0.80% is $4.00 (maker 0.40% is $2.00); Instant Buy 1% is $5.00 plus spread
  • CAD FundingInterac e-Transfer is free (minimum CAD 5, up to CAD 10,000 per transaction); a domestic wire is free; a debit card costs CAD 0.25 plus 3.75%.

It scores 9.2 out of 10 on my scorecard. CTSI is on Kraken’s asset list, but Kraken’s Canadian restrictions list bars some tickers, so confirm CTSI is tradable for a Canadian account. A CAD 30,000 rolling 12-month net purchase limit applies to most clients on every coin except BTC, ETH, LTC and BCH; check your province on Kraken’s page. Interac withdrawals cost CAD 10.

9

BTCC: Offshore Futures Exchange

7.0/10

Best for: experienced futures traders in provinces BTCC says it serves.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and no Canadian investor protection applies. BTCC’s own guidance lists Ontario and Quebec as restricted jurisdictions, although its Terms of Use page does not name Canada. It suits experienced futures traders who accept that risk.

  • Cost On A $500 BuySpot taker 0.3% is $1.50, maker 0.2% is $1.00 (base tier)
  • CAD FundingCAD funding could not be verified.

It scores 7.0 out of 10 on my scorecard. CTSI is on BTCC’s spot asset list (112 spot assets in total). Custody, insurance and proof of reserves were not confirmed.

11

Bitunix: Futures Exchange, Not Open To Canadians

Best for: derivatives traders who accept the risk above.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its restricted regions notice names Canada, including Alberta. It holds foreign MSB registrations with FINTRAC, but that is not the same as being allowed to serve Canadians. It suits derivatives traders outside Canada; a Canadian opening an account would be doing so against its notice.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyMaker 0.08% is $0.40, taker 0.10% is $0.50 (base tier)
  • CAD FundingNo CAD funding verified.

It is not scored on my scorecard. CTSI is on Bitunix’s spot list (549 spot assets). One of its FINTRAC registrations expired on 2026-08-31, and there is no CAD funding.

12

Crypto.com: Best For The Card And Rewards Ecosystem

Best for: people who want the Crypto.com app and card ecosystem alongside their buying.

CSA-registered Restricted Dealer (Foris DAX CAN ULC), CSA decision of May 8, 2025.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyAdvertised as low as 0.08% maker (about $0.40) and 0.18% taker (about $0.90); the Canadian app schedule is not published
  • CAD FundingCrypto.com advertises instant, zero-fee deposits by bank transfer, debit or credit card, or crypto wallet. Other fees and spread may apply.

It is not scored on my scorecard. CTSI is on the Crypto.com Exchange venue’s spot list. The Canadian app list is narrower and not published, so check inside the app before you rely on it.

How Do I Buy Cartesi (CTSI) In Canada Step By Step?

These steps use Coinbase, the first CSA-registered exchange in the table above. The same flow works on the other registered platforms that list CTSI.

  1. Create a Coinbase Canada account. Sign up with your email, then verify with a government-issued ID and a selfie. Verification can take up to 24 hours, though it is often quicker.
  2. Add Canadian dollars. Bank EFT and Interac e-Transfer are free to add cash on Coinbase Canada. Cards and PayPal also work for buying, but they usually cost more.
  3. Search for CTSI. Type CTSI into the search bar. If it does not show up in the Canadian app, it is not available to your account there, whatever the global list says.
  4. Buy CTSI. Read the fee preview before you confirm. Coinbase’s official Canada disclosure mentions up to 1.875% on a simple buy, depending on payment method, plus the spread.
  5. Move long-term CTSI to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first, and check the wallet supports the right network.

You can use a credit or debit card if you want to buy CTSI as quickly as possible, but cards usually cost more than Interac e-Transfer, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

Which Wallets Can Hold Cartesi (CTSI), And How Do I Move It There?

Cartesi’s site describes an Ethereum layer 2, so check whether your wallet supports the specific CTSI token and network you are sending. Cartesi’s materials did not name an official wallet in the pages I read. Check that the wallet lists CTSI and send a small test amount first.

  1. Pick the network first. Open the withdrawal screen, choose CTSI, and look at which networks it offers. Match the network to the one your wallet supports.
  2. Copy the receiving address from the wallet. Use the copy button and not retyping, and check the first and last few characters after you paste.
  3. Add a memo or tag if the withdrawal screen asks for one. Leaving it out is how coins go missing.
  4. Send a small test amount. Wait for it to arrive, then send the rest. Withdrawal fees apply each time, so the test costs a little.
  5. Record the transfer. Moving your own coins between your accounts is not a sale, but note the date, amount and fees for your tax records.

How Do I Store Cartesi (CTSI) Safely In Canada?

For short-term trading, keeping CTSI on a registered exchange is fine if you have turned on two-factor authentication. But for long-term holding, transfer it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked. My guide to the best wallets for Canadians covers the options.

Quick tip: a hardware wallet like Ledger or a software one like Trust Wallet keeps your coins in your own hands, but check that the wallet supports CTSI on the right network before you send anything. Stash that seed phrase somewhere secure, and never on your phone.

How Do I Sell Cartesi (CTSI) In Canada?

Ready to cash out? Selling CTSI is a snap. Move your CTSI back to your exchange wallet if it is in a private one. On Coinbase, Kraken and Crypto.com, hit sell and convert to CAD. Then withdraw by e-Transfer or wire. For the slickest cash-out tricks, watch my video for fees and timing tips.

Withdrawal costs differ by platform: Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Do I Pay Tax When I Buy Cartesi (CTSI) In Canada?

Buying CTSI with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap, including on offshore platforms. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying Cartesi (CTSI) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Coinbase launched regulated crypto derivatives for eligible Canadian investors. It is not open to ordinary retail spot accounts.
  • One of Bitunix’s FINTRAC registrations (Bitunix Innovation Limited) expired.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Buy Cartesi (CTSI) In Canada?

Yes, on several platforms. Coinbase, Kraken, BTCC, Bitunix and Crypto.com list CTSI on their asset lists. Coinbase, Kraken and Crypto.com are CSA-registered. BTCC and Bitunix are offshore. Always confirm the coin in the Canadian app before you fund an account.

What Is The Best Place To Buy CTSI In Canada?

Start with a CSA-registered exchange. From the registered platforms that list CTSI, Coinbase ranks highest on my scorecard at 9.8 out of 10. Compare the fee preview on each before you confirm, because the published fee is only part of the cost.

How Do I Pay For CTSI In Canada?

Interac e-Transfer or bank transfer is the cheapest route on the registered platforms that offer it, and several take it free of charge. Cards are quicker but usually cost more, and some Canadian banks block them.

Are The Offshore Exchanges That List CTSI Safe For Canadians?

BTCC and Bitunix are not registered with the CSA, and their terms restrict some or all Canadian residents (BTCC lists Ontario and Quebec). No Canadian investor protection applies. I list them for completeness, but a registered exchange is the safer route.

What Is The Cartesi (CTSI) Price In CAD?

The price moves constantly, so any number printed here would be stale. Check the live CAD price on the exchange you plan to use, and compare it with the final quote on the order screen, which includes the platform’s fee or spread.

Is Cartesi (CTSI) A Good Investment For Canadians?

CTSI’s dApp innovation has potential, but crypto is volatile. Only risk what you’re okay losing. I don’t make price predictions, and nothing here is financial advice.

Do I Pay Tax When I Sell Or Swap CTSI In Canada?

Possibly. Buying CTSI with Canadian dollars is not taxable by itself, but selling, swapping or spending it can be. The CRA treats crypto as a commodity, and you may report business income or a capital gain depending on your activity. Keep a record of every transaction.
