BloFin, MEXC and Bitunix also lists BNB but are offshore, so read the labels in the table before you consider them.

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

Why Buy BNB?

BNB is not just another cryptocurrency. It’s the backbone of the Binance platform, offering lower fees for transactions and staking opportunities. Its utility extends beyond trading, making it a staple for both short-term traders and long-term holders.

The catch for Canadians is the platform behind it. Binance has left Canada and no longer serves Canadian residents, so the usual route of opening a Binance account is closed. What remains is buying BNB on another exchange that lists it, which is what this page covers.

I am not quoting a live BNB price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price. And a quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so weigh the ups and downs before jumping in.

What Is BNB And What Is It Used For?

BNB Chain’s documentation describes an ecosystem of three blockchains: BNB Smart Chain (BSC), a high-performance layer 1 for DeFi and apps; opBNB, a layer 2 that uses optimistic rollups; and BNB Greenfield, a decentralized storage network. BNB fuels transactions across the ecosystem and also serves as a governance token.

BNB Smart Chain runs on a Proof of Staked Authority consensus model and is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. BNB pays gas fees on the chain and is the staking asset for validators and delegators. The documentation also describes slashing penalties for malicious validator behaviour.

What Risks Come With BNB?

Two risks stand out for a Canadian buyer. The first is availability: Binance, the exchange most people associate with BNB, has left Canada, so you need another place to buy and a different habit for holding it. The second is that BNB Smart Chain relies on a relatively small set of validators under Proof of Staked Authority, which is a different security trade-off from larger open validator sets.

Because BNB exists on more than one chain, a transfer to the wrong network can strand funds. The docs describe cross-chain bridges too, and bridges add smart contract risk.

Where Can You Buy BNB In Canada?

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include BNB, in my fixed order. Wealthsimple Crypto, Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Shakepay are left out because I could not confirm a BNB listing on any of them. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.

Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.

How Do The Fees Compare?

Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker and drops with volume, while Instant Buy costs 1% plus spread; Coinbase is the simplest app but charges up to 1.875% plus spread on a simple buy.

Fees change, so treat the published numbers above as a guide and read the fee preview on the order screen before you confirm.

1

Coinbase: Best Overall Crypto Exchange In Canada

9.8/10

Best for: first-time buyers who want a large, familiar app with Interac funding.

CSA-registered Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories, with a Canada-specific user agreement. Fiat balances are not covered by CIPF or CDIC.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyUp to 1.875% Coinbase fee on a simple buy (varies by payment method), about $9.38 on $500, plus the spread
  • CAD FundingInterac e-Transfer and bank EFT are free to add cash; card and PayPal are also offered for buying.

It scores 9.8 out of 10 on my scorecard. I found BNB on Coinbase’s exchange product list. That list is global and Canadian availability on coinbase.com/en-ca is narrower, so search for BNB in the Canadian app before you fund an account.

My Coinbase video review.
2

BloFin: Offshore Derivatives Exchange With Low Spot Fees

9.6/10

Best for: experienced traders who already hold crypto and accept the risk above.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its Terms of Use name Canada as a Restricted Location. No Canadian investor protection applies. It suits experienced traders who already hold crypto and accept that they would have no recourse; beginners should start on a registered platform.

  • Cost On A $500 BuySpot 0.1% each way is $0.50 (base tier)
  • CAD FundingThere is no CAD funding. BloFin is crypto-funded, and fiat goes through third-party buy providers.

It scores 9.6 out of 10 on my scorecard. BNB is on BloFin’s spot asset list (235 spot assets in total).

3

Kraken: Best For Lower Fees And Deeper Coin Choice

9.2/10

Best for: buyers who want a wide coin list and lower fees on Kraken Pro once they are past the first purchase.

CSA-registered Restricted Dealer, operated in Canada by Payward Canada Inc.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyKraken Pro taker 0.80% is $4.00 (maker 0.40% is $2.00); Instant Buy 1% is $5.00 plus spread
  • CAD FundingInterac e-Transfer is free (minimum CAD 5, up to CAD 10,000 per transaction); a domestic wire is free; a debit card costs CAD 0.25 plus 3.75%.

It scores 9.2 out of 10 on my scorecard. BNB is on Kraken’s asset list, but Kraken’s Canadian restrictions list bars some tickers, so confirm BNB is tradable for a Canadian account. A CAD 30,000 rolling 12-month net purchase limit applies to most clients on every coin except BTC, ETH, LTC and BCH; check your province on Kraken’s page. Interac withdrawals cost CAD 10.

10

MEXC: Sheer Coin Variety, With Caveats

7.0/10

Best for: experienced traders who want a very large altcoin list and accept the risk above.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its User Agreement lists Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction. No Canadian investor protection applies. It suits experienced traders hunting small-cap coins who accept that they would be using it against its own terms.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyMaker 0% is $0, taker 0.05% is $0.25 (base tier)
  • CAD FundingNo CAD funding verified.

It scores 7.0 out of 10 on my scorecard. BNB is on MEXC’s spot list (about 1,400 spot assets). There are no CAD deposits and no Canadian recourse.

11

Bitunix: Futures Exchange, Not Open To Canadians

Best for: derivatives traders who accept the risk above.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its restricted regions notice names Canada, including Alberta. It holds foreign MSB registrations with FINTRAC, but that is not the same as being allowed to serve Canadians. It suits derivatives traders outside Canada; a Canadian opening an account would be doing so against its notice.

  • Cost On A $500 BuyMaker 0.08% is $0.40, taker 0.10% is $0.50 (base tier)
  • CAD FundingNo CAD funding verified.

It is not scored on my scorecard. BNB is on Bitunix’s spot list (549 spot assets). One of its FINTRAC registrations expired on 2026-08-31, and there is no CAD funding.

How Do I Buy BNB In Canada Step By Step?

These steps use Coinbase, the first CSA-registered exchange in the table above. The same flow works on the other registered platforms that list BNB.

  1. Create a Coinbase Canada account. Sign up with your email, then verify with a government-issued ID and a selfie. Verification can take up to 24 hours, though it is often quicker.
  2. Add Canadian dollars. Bank EFT and Interac e-Transfer are free to add cash on Coinbase Canada. Cards and PayPal also work for buying, but they usually cost more.
  3. Search for BNB. Type BNB into the search bar. If it does not show up in the Canadian app, it is not available to your account there, whatever the global list says.
  4. Buy BNB. Read the fee preview before you confirm. Coinbase’s official Canada disclosure mentions up to 1.875% on a simple buy, depending on payment method, plus the spread.
  5. Move long-term BNB to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first, and check the wallet supports the right network.

You can use a credit or debit card if you want to buy BNB as quickly as possible, but cards usually cost more than Interac e-Transfer, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

Which Wallets Can Hold BNB, And How Do I Move It There?

The BNB Smart Chain documentation says the network works with MetaMask and has Trust Wallet integration, so those are two official starting points. Add the BNB Smart Chain network in the wallet, then confirm that the deposit address you copy is for that same chain before you send.

  1. Pick the network first. Open the withdrawal screen, choose BNB, and look at which networks it offers. Match the network to the one your wallet supports.
  2. Copy the receiving address from the wallet. Use the copy button and not retyping, and check the first and last few characters after you paste.
  3. Add a memo or tag if the withdrawal screen asks for one. Leaving it out is how coins go missing.
  4. Send a small test amount. Wait for it to arrive, then send the rest. Withdrawal fees apply each time, so the test costs a little.
  5. Record the transfer. Moving your own coins between your accounts is not a sale, but note the date, amount and fees for your tax records.

How Do I Store BNB Safely In Canada?

For short-term trading, keeping BNB on a registered exchange is fine if you have turned on two-factor authentication. But for long-term holding, transfer it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked. My guide to the best wallets for Canadians covers the options.

Quick tip: a hardware wallet like Ledger or a software one like Trust Wallet keeps your coins in your own hands, but check that the wallet supports BNB on the right network before you send anything. Stash that seed phrase somewhere secure, and never on your phone.

How Do I Sell BNB In Canada?

Ready to cash out? Selling BNB is a snap. Move your BNB back to your exchange wallet if it is in a private one. On Coinbase and Kraken, hit sell and convert to CAD. Then withdraw by e-Transfer or wire. For the slickest cash-out tricks, watch my video for fees and timing tips.

Withdrawal costs differ by platform: Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Do I Pay Tax When I Buy BNB In Canada?

Buying BNB with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap, including on offshore platforms. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying BNB In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Coinbase launched regulated crypto derivatives for eligible Canadian investors. It is not open to ordinary retail spot accounts.
  • One of Bitunix’s FINTRAC registrations (Bitunix Innovation Limited) expired.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Buy BNB In Canada?

Yes, on several platforms. Coinbase, BloFin, Kraken, MEXC and Bitunix list BNB on their asset lists. Coinbase and Kraken are CSA-registered. BloFin, MEXC and Bitunix are offshore. Always confirm the coin in the Canadian app before you fund an account.

What Is The Best Place To Buy BNB In Canada?

Start with a CSA-registered exchange. From the registered platforms that list BNB, Coinbase ranks highest on my scorecard at 9.8 out of 10. Compare the fee preview on each before you confirm, because the published fee is only part of the cost.

How Do I Pay For BNB In Canada?

Interac e-Transfer or bank transfer is the cheapest route on the registered platforms that offer it, and several take it free of charge. Cards are quicker but usually cost more, and some Canadian banks block them.

Are The Offshore Exchanges That List BNB Safe For Canadians?

BloFin, MEXC and Bitunix are not registered with the CSA, and their terms restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I list them for completeness, but a registered exchange is the safer route.

What Is The BNB Price In CAD?

The price moves constantly, so any number printed here would be stale. Check the live CAD price on the exchange you plan to use, and compare it with the final quote on the order screen, which includes the platform’s fee or spread.

Is BNB A Good Investment For Canadians?

BNB has utility and potential for growth, but always consider the market’s volatility. I don’t make price predictions, and nothing here is financial advice.

Do I Pay Tax When I Sell Or Swap BNB In Canada?

Possibly. Buying BNB with Canadian dollars is not taxable by itself, but selling, swapping or spending it can be. The CRA treats crypto as a commodity, and you may report business income or a capital gain depending on your activity. Keep a record of every transaction.
