The Trezor Safe 7 is a USD 249 touchscreen with open firmware and three chips, and the NGRAVE ZERO is an air-gapped touchscreen from USD 398 with no wireless at all. The honest one-line difference: Trezor is proven in public, NGRAVE is an unusual design with fewer public checks.
Trezor Vs NGRAVE: Which Is Better For Canadians?
For most Canadians, the Trezor Safe 7 is the better pick because it scores 9.6 against 7.6 on my list.
Trezor Safe 7
9.6/10#1 on my list of the best crypto wallets in Canada
What Happens If You Lose Your Trezor Safe 7 Or NGRAVE ZERO?
Trezor Safe 7: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup (Shamir). Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).
NGRAVE ZERO: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 24-word BIP-39 seed or hexadecimal 'Perfect Key' (convertible both ways); COMBO PACK includes a backup product. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app.

Two ways to protect a key from the internet: Trezor builds three chips and publishes the code, NGRAVE removes every wireless link and claims the highest certification level. This page anchors on the Trezor Safe 7 at USD 249 and the NGRAVE ZERO at USD 398, and names the rest of Trezor's range briefly.
Which Is More Secure, Trezor Or NGRAVE?
NGRAVE says the ZERO is certified at Common Criteria EAL7 and the only crypto wallet with that level, which is the company's own claim and one I could not verify against a certification body page. It is fully air-gapped: no USB, Bluetooth, NFC, WiFi or 4G, QR codes only, with a fingerprint sensor and a passphrase that makes unlimited hidden wallets. I found no NGRAVE security incident or independent audit.
The Safe 7 stacks three chips from three vendors: TROPIC01, an EAL6+ Optiga secure element and an STM32U5 microcontroller, with open firmware and signed binaries on GitHub, 12, 20 and 24 word backups, multi-share backup and a passphrase. Trezor also claims post-quantum cryptography for firmware updates, device authentication and boot. It has Bluetooth, which NGRAVE deliberately lacks. The cost of openness is visibility: researchers find and publish Trezor's flaws, including Ledger Donjon's June 3, 2026 laser attack on TROPIC01, which needs possession, chip decapsulation and lab gear, and which Trezor says leaves PIN, funds and backup unexposed (Trezor). Is Trezor the most secure crypto wallet? It is the one with the most public scrutiny, not a proven winner.
Which Is Easier To Use?
The Safe 7 has a 2.5 inch colour touchscreen with haptic feedback, Bluetooth, USB-C, Qi2 charging and Trezor Suite on all major platforms, with full iOS compatibility. The ZERO has a 4 inch touchscreen and works over QR scans in both directions, which is slower and more deliberate. If you sign daily, Trezor. If you sign twice a year and want zero wireless, NGRAVE.
Which Supports More Coins?
Trezor: thousands of coins and tokens, 30+ third-party wallet apps and 70k+ dApps via third parties. NGRAVE's pages disagree: a hero line of "+3 500 coins and tokens" against a spec line of 15 coins plus all Ethereum and MultiversX tokens. Trezor wins on certainty and ecosystem, and it holds XRP, which I keep on my own Safe 7.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Both are ordinary self-custody wallets. Withdraw from Coinbase, Kraken or NDAX, tick "sending to myself" where asked and test with a small send. Moving coins between your own wallets is not a disposition for the CRA.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose Trezor for open code, a mature app ecosystem and a product that was not showing as sold out when I checked. Choose NGRAVE if the air gap and fingerprint matter to you, you can wait for stock and you accept that its EAL7 claim is the company's own. For most Canadians I would start with the Safe 7. Review: my Trezor Safe 5 review and NGRAVE ZERO review. Also see ELLIPAL Vs NGRAVE.
Think about how you will actually use the thing. A signing wallet gets used when you move money, and for most people that is a handful of times a year. In that world the air gap is a comfort and the Bluetooth is a convenience you rarely need, so the decision comes down to price, stock and how much you trust each maker's paper trail. Trezor's trail is long and public, including the disclosures above and a published firmware changelog. NGRAVE's is short: I found no incident and no independent audit, which means there is simply less to check. Neither fact is a reason to rule one out. They are reasons to set up each one carefully, start with a small amount and write the backup down on paper or steel the moment it appears. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre advises buying hardware wallets directly from the manufacturer, and I follow that for every wallet I recommend.
