BloFin and MEXC are both offshore, and both write Canada out of their terms. Here is how their fees and products differ, and why neither is a safe pick for a Canadian.

For most Canadians, BloFin is the better choice (it wins on my ranking). MEXC still comes out ahead on published trading fee, coins available. MEXC is best for experienced traders hunting small-cap altcoins.

What Do BloFin And MEXC Offer Beyond Buying And Selling?

BloFin Only

  • Perpetual swaps: 495 base assets (519 swap instruments) with maximum leverage up to 150x per the public API. Futures base fees are 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker. Not available to Canadians.
  • Copy trading: Listed as a service in the Terms of Use alongside futures and spot trading.

MEXC Only

  • Futures: Futures maker fee 0%. Not available to Canadians because Canada is a prohibited jurisdiction.

What Happens To Your Money If BloFin Or MEXC Fails?

BloFin: BloFin is not registered with the CSA, is not a CIRO member and has no FINTRAC MSB registration, so no Canadian regulator oversees it. CIPF never covers crypto and BloFin is not a member anyway. Because Canada is a Restricted Location, an account opened from Canada through a VPN or false address can be frozen, with funds inside. We could not verify insurance, proof of reserves or cold storage shares. If the exchange fails or is hacked, a Canadian has no regulator to complain to.

MEXC: MEXC is not registered with the CSA, is not a CIRO member and has no FINTRAC MSB registration, so no Canadian regulator oversees it. It is not on the CSA banned list either, but it prohibits Canada in its own terms, so an account opened from Canada can be frozen with funds inside. CIPF never covers crypto. Insurance and proof of reserves were not verified. If the exchange fails or is hacked, a Canadian has no regulator to turn to.

How Are BloFin And MEXC Treated For Tax In Canada?

BloFin: Spot sales, crypto-to-crypto trades and futures settlement are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export or CRA-ready report was verified, so Canadians would have to rebuild records from trade history.

MEXC: Spot sales and crypto-to-crypto trades are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export was verified, so rebuild records from trade history.

Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.

Which Should You Choose, BloFin Or MEXC?

Choose BloFin If

  • You want a regulated route: pick a CSA-registered platform instead, BloFin does not serve Canadians.
  • You wanted perpetual swaps: BloFin is not an option from Canada, so check a registered dealer's derivatives offer.

Choose MEXC If

  • You want a huge altcoin list: MEXC bars Canada, so compare registered Canadian dealers instead.

BloFin: Offshore Status

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its Terms of Use list Canada as a Restricted Location. No Canadian investor protection applies. On paper it suits active derivatives traders, but Canadians are not permitted to use it.

MEXC: Offshore Status

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its User Agreement (updated 29 May 2025) names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction. No Canadian investor protection applies. On paper it suits altcoin hunters, but a Canadian cannot open an account under its own terms.

Is BloFin Or MEXC Better For Canadians In 2026?

Neither is a good answer, and I would not pretend otherwise. My ranking has BloFin second at 9.6 and MEXC ninth at 7.0, and that gap reflects how each trades for the people allowed to use them. For a Canadian reader the ranking is a statement about product quality, not permission.

BloFin is built around perpetual swaps and a small spot market. MEXC is built around a very large altcoin list. If you are in Canada and want either kind of product, start with the registered options and work down.

Which Costs Less When You Actually Trade?

On spot, MEXC wins by a hair. Its 0% maker and 0.05% taker mean a CAD 1,000 trade costs at most about 50 cents, and BloFin's flat 0.1% costs CAD 1. On futures the picture is only partly verified. BloFin shows 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker at its Regular tier, and MEXC shows a 0% futures maker fee. I did not find a verified MEXC futures taker rate.

Neither platform has a CAD route, so the cheap trading fee sits behind a funding step I cannot price. BloFin charges no withdrawal fee of its own, only the network fee shown on screen. MEXC's crypto network fees and minimums were not verified, so I will not guess at them.

One more cost that never shows up in a fee table is the cost of being locked out. If either platform freezes a Canadian account for a terms breach, the trading fee you saved is the smallest number in the story.

Which Is Safer For Canadians?

Neither one is on the CSA list, neither is a CIRO member, and neither has a FINTRAC MSB match in the registry data I checked. CIPF does not cover crypto, and neither is a member anyway. Both are custodial. Insurance, proof of reserves and cold storage share were not verified for either.

The terms differ in wording only. BloFin lists Canada as a Restricted Location. MEXC names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction. In both cases a Canadian account can be frozen with the money inside, and in a failure there is no regulator to file a complaint with. Using a VPN to get past the location check would breach both sets of terms and raise that freezing risk.

Is This Really A Derivatives Exchange Against An Altcoin Exchange?

Mostly, yes. BloFin offers 495 perpetual-swap base assets and 235 spot assets across 242 live spot pairs. Its spot market only launched in January 2024. MEXC offers 1,425 spot base assets across 1,813 pairs and a futures market on top. If you want depth in small altcoins, the spot menu is where MEXC is stronger. If you want swaps and copy trading, BloFin's whole product is built for that. BloFin's welcome and referral bonus pages exist, but they do not apply to Canadians, so I do not count any bonus in the comparison.

Who Should Choose BloFin, And Who Should Choose MEXC?

Nobody in Canada should choose either as a first exchange. If you wanted swaps, check what a registered dealer offers; Coinbase launched regulated derivatives for eligible Canadian investors on 2 September 2026. If you wanted altcoins, compare the coin counts on the ranking page, then use the registered platform that carries your coin.
