Arculus and Tangem are both screenless NFC cards, but only one of them is open about its audits and its Canadian shipping. Tangem has the bigger coin list and a seedless card-set backup, while Arculus leads on the sale price and a SOC 2 audit.

Arculus Vs Tangem: Which Is Better For Canadians?

For most Canadians, the Tangem Wallet is the better pick because it scores 9.4 against 7.4 on my list. My #1 wallet pick overall is the Trezor Safe 7 (9.6/10).

What Happens If You Lose Your Arculus Or Tangem Wallet?

Arculus: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: page says 'no stored recovery phrases'; buy multiple cards to split or back up crypto (a second card as backup); recovery method detail not. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app.

Tangem Wallet: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: Seedless by design: extra cards back each other up (2 or 3 card sets); a 12-word seed is optional for advanced users. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 2 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-07-09 (Ledger Donjon laser attack on Tangem cards).

How Much Does It Cost To Get These Wallets To Canada?

CBSA courier thresholds: shipments from outside the US and Mexico are duty and tax free only up to CAD 20, and from the US or Mexico up to CAD 40, so expect taxes on any hardware wallet. Buy from the maker or an authorised reseller only.

Which Is More Secure, Arculus Or Tangem?

On paper these two are close cousins. Both are NFC cards with no screen, both put the keys in a certified secure element (Common Criteria EAL6+ on each, per the makers), and both ask you to approve things in a phone app instead of on a device display. That last point is the shared weak spot: you cannot read the transaction on a trusted screen the way you can on a Trezor or a Ledger. The card is the vault, and your phone is the window.

Where they split is the paper trail. Arculus lists a SOC 2 Type II audit on its store. Tangem points to independent audits: Riscure on the Tangem Wallet firmware (December 2, 2023) and Cure53 on the mobile wallet (March 1, 2026), and its app code is open source on GitHub. Arculus does not state whether its code is open source, so I leave that blank rather than guess. I could not confirm any Arculus incident on a primary page, but I also could not confirm the audit claims beyond SOC 2.

Tangem has the louder security record, and you should read it before buying. On July 9, 2026, Ledger Donjon published a laser attack on the card's secure element that sets the card's access password to the attacker's own value. It needs the physical card and roughly $250,000 of lab gear, and Donjon says cards have no firmware update path, so it cannot be patched (Donjon write-up). Tangem also had a December 2024 bug where the app logged a private key for users who activated with a seed phrase and then emailed support within seven days (Tangem says under 0.1% of users and no funds lost). Realistic risk to a card sitting in your drawer is low. Risk to a card someone steals from you is the part to think about.

Which Is Easier To Use?

Both are tap-and-go. With Arculus you enter a PIN and use biometrics in the Arculus App (iOS and Android), then tap the card to approve. Tangem uses an access code or biometrics in its free mobile app and a tap over NFC, with no battery and no cable on the card itself. One Arculus customer review notes Huawei phones are unsupported, and neither maker states a desktop app, so if you want to do everything from a laptop, neither is your wallet.

The backup story is the bigger daily-life difference. Tangem is seedless by design: a 2-card or 3-card set backs itself up, and a 12-word seed is optional for advanced users. Arculus says it keeps no stored recovery phrases and tells you to buy more than one card to back up or split your crypto, but the recovery detail is not on the pages I fetched. Either way, treat a single card as a single point of failure.

Which Supports More Coins?

Arculus says it covers over 95% of crypto by market cap. Tangem supports the three coins I hold on it (ETH, SOL and XRP). If you hold something obscure, check the maker's coin list before you pay, because a long headline number does not tell you whether your specific token is in it.

Which Costs Less In Canada?

DutiesUnknownPrices exclude taxes and duties; customs fees may be charged on delivery

Prices are in USD as the stores show them, so add the exchange rate. Under CBSA courier rules, parcels from outside the US and Mexico are duty and tax free up to CAD 20 and taxed above that, and from the US the cut-offs are CAD 40 and CAD 150. I could not confirm the duty rate on a hardware wallet specifically, so budget for tax at the door. Tangem is the one with a confirmed Canada delivery line, and my code works at checkout: 10% off with my code OCRYPTOCANADA. Arculus sells from its own site (getarculus.com). Buy direct from the maker either way, which the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre also recommends.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?

Neither card cares which exchange you use. You copy a receiving address from the app, then withdraw from the exchange. Coinbase asks whether the wallet is self-custody and has a "Sending to myself" box. Kraken shows a Travel Rule pop-up on withdrawals of CAD 1,000 or more. Newton wants the address saved and verified in its Address Book first. Moving coins between wallets you own is not a taxable disposition per the CRA, but keep records for at least six years. See my crypto tax guide.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose Tangem if you want the larger coin menu, a confirmed Canadian shipping line, audit reports you can read and a set of cards that back each other up. It is #2 in my ranking, and I keep part of my ETH, SOL and XRP on a Tangem card. Read the Tangem review first.

Choose Arculus if the headline price and the SOC 2 audit matter more and you are happy buying a second card for backup. It is not in my top 7 and I have not found a verified Canadian shipping policy, so confirm delivery and duties at checkout before you pay. If you want a screen you can trust, skip both and look at the best crypto wallets in Canada. For the closest rivals see Arculus vs Trezor and Arculus vs Ledger.

What Has Happened With Arculus And Tangem?

  • : Ledger Donjon published a laser attack on Tangem cards that needs physical possession and about $250,000 of lab gear.
  • : Cure53 completed an independent audit of the Tangem Mobile Wallet, reported by Tangem.
  • : Riscure completed an independent firmware audit of the Tangem Wallet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Best Crypto Wallet In Canada?

My top pick is the Trezor Safe 7, then Tangem at number two and the Ledger Flex at three. The full ranking with prices is on the best crypto wallets in Canada page.

Is Arculus A Safe Wallet?

Arculus puts keys in a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element and lists a SOC 2 Type II audit. I found no incident on a primary page. The catch is that it has no screen, so you approve in a phone app, and I could not confirm whether its code is open source.

Is Tangem Really Secure?

It uses an EAL6+ chip and has had independent audits, but Ledger Donjon showed a laser attack in July 2026 that needs the physical card and about $250,000 of equipment. Cards cannot be updated, so keep yours physically secure.

What Are The Top 5 Cold Wallets?

My current top five are Trezor Safe 7, Tangem, Ledger Flex, OneKey Pro and SafePal S1. Arculus is not in my top 7.

Can I Buy Arculus Or Tangem In Canada Without Extra Duties?

Not guaranteed. Tangem lists Canada delivery but says prices exclude taxes and duties, and I could not confirm Arculus shipping to Canada. CBSA courier rules apply a CAD 20 or CAD 40 duty-free line depending on origin.

Which Is Cheaper, The Arculus Or The Tangem Wallet?

Arculus: USD 59.76 now (was USD 99.00) for one Arculus card; Silver and Black 2-pack bundle USD 76.26 (MSRP USD 198). Tax not included. Tangem Wallet: 2-card set USD 54.90; 3-card set USD 69.90; Family Pack USD 129.80; Ring and 2 cards USD 160; Pro Kit USD 180 (prices shown in USD to a US visitor).

Arculus: Canada shipping not stated. Tangem Wallet: yes: Canada listed with Standard delivery 4-11 business days, USD 16.00 shipping; free standard shipping on orders over USD 100 (VAT excluded).
