To buy NEO in Canada, use a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars by Interac e-Transfer where the platform allows it, and place the buy. Of the platforms on my list, Kraken (9.2) and Crypto.com list NEO and are registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators.
MEXC and Bitunix also list it, but they are offshore, so read the labels in the table first. Wealthsimple Crypto, Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Shakepay are not shown because I could not verify a NEO listing on them.
- Kraken, 9.2: lower fees on Kraken Pro and a wide coin list
- MEXC, 7.0: a huge altcoin list, but it is offshore
- Bitunix: derivatives traders, but it is offshore
- Crypto.com: the Crypto.com app and card ecosystem
Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | CSA-registered (Restricted Dealer) | Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1% | Free Interac e-Transfer deposits | #3 | Buy NEO |

Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.
I list only the platforms whose asset lists I could match to NEO, in my fixed order. A listing on an asset list is not a promise that the coin is open to every Canadian province, so check the order screen before you deposit.
What Is NEO, And Why Do Canadians Buy It?

Ready to buy NEO in Canada? Since I started trading crypto in Canada in 2016, I have tested 61 exchanges, and with my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada, I have sorted out what works best for us. Whether you are new or a seasoned trader, this guide should steer you toward an informed choice.
NEO is a blockchain platform dubbed the "Ethereum of China," powering smart contracts and digital assets with a focus on efficiency. Canadians are drawn to its technology.
It is an older project that has to keep earning attention against newer smart-contract chains.
Neo says NEO token holders are the owners of the network and can take part in governance. Neo says NEO holders receive GAS passively, with no staking required. GAS pays for network fees, smart contract deployments and dApp purchases.
NEO is indivisible, and holders vote for the Neo Committee.
How Does NEO Work?
Neo uses a two token model, so users can take part without reducing their stake in the network. Neo's consensus is dBFT 2.0, where a speaker proposes a block and delegates vote on it. A dBFT consensus round has four steps: prepare request, prepare response, commit, then a new block.
dBFT tolerates up to F faulty nodes where F is floor of (N minus 1) divided by 3. The Neo network charges GAS for operating and storing tokens and smart contracts.

The token's value rests on developers and users staying with the network, and newer chains are always competing for both. I am not quoting a live price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price.

How Much Does It Cost To Buy $500 Of NEO In Canada?
| Platform | Published Cost On $500 |
|---|---|
| Kraken | Kraken Pro taker 0.80% is $4.00 (maker 0.40% is $2.00); Instant Buy 1% is $5.00 plus spread |

Offshore platforms show lower headline fees, but they cannot take Canadian dollars and Canada is restricted in their terms, so the saving comes with real risk. These are published base-tier figures. Your real cost also includes the spread, which most platforms do not publish for individual coins, so the order screen is the number that counts.
How Do I Buy NEO In Canada Step By Step?
These steps use Kraken, the highest-ranked CSA-registered platform in the table above that lists NEO.
- Sign up and verify. Create a Kraken account and upload a government-issued ID and a selfie. Kraken verifies you under its Canadian entity, Payward Canada Inc. Verification can take up to 24 hours.
- Deposit Canadian dollars. Deposit by Interac e-Transfer, which is free (minimum CAD 5, up to CAD 10,000 per transaction). Debit card costs CAD 0.25 plus 3.75%, so skip it unless you are in a hurry.
- Buy NEO. Search for NEO. For a first small buy, Instant Buy is simple at 1% plus a spread. Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker and costs less once you are comfortable with limit orders. Read the fee preview before you confirm.
- Check the order. Look at the quantity of NEO you will receive for your CAD and compare the effective price with the market price. The gap is your real cost.
- Send long-term holdings to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.
If your bank blocks a card payment for crypto, switch to Interac e-Transfer. It is usually the cheaper route anyway.
What Are The Documented Risks Of NEO?
Beyond ordinary price swings, these are the risks the project or wallet vendors themselves put on record. The token's value rests on developers and users staying with the network, and newer chains are always competing for both.
- Neo says your private key is the only way to control your Neo assets, so back it up.
- Some exchanges pay out GAS to NEO holders and others do not, so GAS may not reach you if you leave NEO on an exchange.
- Not every wallet supports voting. Neo tells holders to pick a wallet that does if they want to vote.
- Trezor states it does not currently support NEO.
Which Wallets Support NEO?
I only list wallets whose own official pages say they support NEO. Support can depend on the network and the device model, so check the vendor page before you buy a device.
- Neo's site lists Neo-GUI, Neo-CLI, NeoLine, O3 Wallet and Neon Wallet among its wallets.
- Ledger says you can connect a Ledger device to the Neon wallet to send, receive and swap NEO.
- Neo lists Ledger hardware wallets as an option for holding NEO.

What Should I Check Before Buying NEO?
Small and mid-size coins fail in quieter ways than Bitcoin does. Before you press buy, run through a short list.
- The exact ticker and network. Many tokens share a name or a ticker. Confirm you are buying the one you mean, and if you plan to withdraw, confirm which network the platform sends it on.
- Liquidity. Look at the order book depth. A thin market means your own buy can move the price, and a sell later can be harder than the buy was.
- The all-in price. Compare the quote on the order screen with the market price. The gap covers the spread and any fee.
- Withdrawal rules. Some platforms limit or pause withdrawals of certain coins. Check before you assume you can move NEO to your own wallet.
- Your province. Platform access and limits can differ by province, so confirm yours on the platform's own page.
The token's value rests on developers and users staying with the network, and newer chains are always competing for both. None of this is a prediction about NEO. I do not do price targets, and any page that gives you one is guessing.
Should I Use A Registered Or An Offshore Exchange?
Where a registered platform lists the coin, use it. The Canadian Securities Administrators register platforms that serve Canadians, and a registered platform sits under rules on custody, disclosure and complaints. You also get Canadian dollar deposits through Interac, which keeps the cost down.
MEXC and Bitunix list NEO too, but they are not registered with the CSA and their terms restrict Canadian residents. If an offshore platform freezes your account, there is no Canadian regulator to take it to. I keep offshore platforms in my ranking because I tested them and some readers will use them regardless, but I label them clearly for that reason.
How Do You Store NEO?
For short-term trading, leaving NEO on the platform you bought it on is fine as long as it has solid security. For long-term holding, transfer it to a wallet you control, because exchanges can get hacked and I have seen it happen. A hardware wallet like Ledger or a software wallet such as Trust Wallet (if it supports NEO) keeps it safer. Store the seed phrase offline in a safe place, never on your phone.
I have covered the options in my best crypto wallets for Canadians guide. Before you move any coin, confirm the wallet supports the right network for it, and send a small test amount first.
How Do I Move NEO From An Exchange To A Wallet?
The steps below come from the official pages listed underneath. The general routine is the same on every platform: copy your receiving address, pick the matching network, send a small test amount, and only then send the rest.
- Most Neo wallets have a claim function to collect GAS.
- Neo says secure backup of the private key is essential when you set up an account.

How Do I Sell NEO In Canada?
To sell, go back to the platform where you bought it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the platform first, then use its sell option. You can swap NEO for another cryptocurrency, or sell it for Canadian dollars if the platform offers that, and then withdraw to your bank account. Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal. Fees and limits differ by platform. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.
If NEO is only on an exchange that does not pay out in Canadian dollars, you will need to swap into a coin your registered platform accepts first, and that swap is itself a taxable event. Plan the exit before you plan the entry.
Do I Pay Tax When I Buy NEO In Canada?
Buying NEO with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.
What Changed For Buying NEO In Canada In October 2026?
- Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
- One of Bitunix's FINTRAC registrations (Bitunix Innovation Limited) expired. Bitunix's own notice still names Canada as a restricted region.
- MEXC updated its User Agreement, and Canada is named as a prohibited jurisdiction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can You Buy NEO In Canada?
Yes, on some platforms. Kraken, MEXC, Bitunix and Crypto.com list NEO on their asset lists. Of those, Kraken and Crypto.com are CSA-registered; the rest are offshore.
What Is The Best Way And Place To Buy NEO In Canada?
Use a CSA-registered exchange and pay by Interac e-Transfer where you can. For NEO, Kraken is the highest-ranked registered platform on my list that lists it. Cards are quicker but cost more.
How To Trade NEO In Canada?
You can trade NEO for other cryptocurrencies on any platform that lists it. Find the trade or swap option and pick from the pairs available. Each swap can be a taxable event, so keep records.
What Is The NEO Price In CAD?
The price moves constantly, so any number printed here would be stale. Check the live CAD price on the platform you plan to use, and compare it with the final quote on the order screen, which includes the platform's fee or spread.
Is NEO A Good Investment For Canadians?
Any crypto investment is risky and you should do your own research. The token's value rests on developers and users staying with the network, and newer chains are always competing for both. Only put in money you can afford to lose, and do not treat any article, mine included, as a price forecast.
How Should I Store NEO?
Short-term, leaving it on a platform with solid security is fine. Long-term, move it to a wallet you control, keep the seed phrase offline, and test with a small transfer first.
