To buy Jupiter (JUP) in Canada, open an account on a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars and place the order. On my scorecard that means Kraken (9.2) and Crypto.com.
BloFin, MEXC and Bitunix also list it, but they are offshore, so read the labels before you consider them.
- Kraken, 9.2: free Interac deposits and cheaper trading on Kraken Pro
- Crypto.com: a broad app, though its Canadian fee schedule is not published where I could check
I have been trading crypto in Canada since 2016 and I have tested 61 exchanges to find the best ways for Canadians to buy coins like this one, and I share what I find on my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada, and in the r/OCryptoCanada community. Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.
Why Buy Jupiter (JUP)?
Jupiter (JUP) isn’t just another cryptocurrency, it’s the governance token for a top Solana DEX aggregator, optimizing trades with speed and low fees. Canadians might be drawn to its DeFi efficiency and staking rewards, whether you’re in Vancouver or the Prairies.
A quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in. I am not quoting a live JUP price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and judge any coin by what it does rather than by a chart. The facts below come from the project's own site, docs or whitepaper, or from the wallet vendor's own support pages.
What Is Jupiter, And What Does JUP Do?
Jupiter describes itself as the liquidity infrastructure behind the majority of DeFi on Solana, offering swaps, lending, limit orders, dollar-cost averaging, prediction markets and perpetuals. It says swap execution is competitive, with its Metis router, JupiterZ and third-party routers competing on every swap. JUP is the governance token of the Jupiter protocol on Solana. Staking it gives voting rights in the Jupiter DAO and eligibility for Active Staking Rewards.
One thing that surprises buyers: holding JUP does not give direct access to protocol fees. Instead, Jupiter directs 50% of its onchain revenue to the Litterbox Trust to buy back JUP as a long-term strategic reserve. Jupiter's docs also state that JUP is and will remain the only governance token for Jupiter, and the team may issue product-specific receipt tokens without diluting JUP economics.
How Do Staking And Governance Work?
Voting power is proportional to staked balance. Most proposals offer For, Against and Abstain, voting costs about 0.01 SOL in fees, and a vote can be changed while the proposal is active. Staking locks JUP in the governance contract, and unstaking has a mandatory 7-day cooldown that cannot be skipped or accelerated. Active Staking Rewards are distributed quarterly based on time-weighted stake only, and voting choice does not affect them.
What Do The Docs Say About Vesting And Supply?
Team tokens vest on chain through Jupiter Lock with a 1-year cliff followed by 3 years of linear vesting, and locked tokens cannot earn staking rewards. Jupiter documents a community-backed supply reduction and says the Litterbox Trust has burned roughly 134 million JUP from protocol revenue as of the docs' latest update. A forum proposal suggested cutting total supply from 10 billion to 7 billion JUP, burning 1.5 billion each from team-managed and community portions. I could not confirm the vote result or the final total supply, so treat that as a proposal rather than a fact. Jupiter publicly discloses minting and airdrop events and reviews its unissued-token wallets with community audits about every six months.
Where Can You Buy Jupiter (JUP) In Canada?
These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include JUP, in my fixed ranking order. Wealthsimple is left out because it publishes no coin list I can check, and I will not claim it carries JUP. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.
| Exchange | Canadian Status | Published Fee | CAD Funding | My Rank | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BloFin | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada | 0.1% spot | No CAD funding | #2 | Buy JUP |
| Kraken | CSA-registered (Restricted Dealer) | Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1% | Free Interac e-Transfer deposits | #3 | Buy JUP |
| MEXC | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada | 0% maker / 0.05% taker | No CAD funding verified | #9 | Buy JUP |
| Bitunix | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada | See Bitunix fee page | No CAD funding | Not ranked | Buy JUP |
| Crypto.com | CSA-registered (Restricted Dealer) | Not published for Canada | Not verified | Not ranked | Buy JUP |
Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.
Asset lists differ by region and change over time, so confirm that JUP shows up in the app before you fund an account.
Buy Jupiter (JUP) On BloFin
Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. Only experienced traders who accept that risk would consider it, and I do not recommend it for Canadians.
BloFin lists JUP, with spot fees of 0.1% and no CAD funding. Its Terms of Use name Canada as a restricted location, so a Canadian account would break them. Read my BloFin review.
Buy Jupiter (JUP) On Kraken
Kraken is also a CSA Restricted Dealer, and Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. Instant Buy costs 1%, while Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so anyone buying more than a token amount should switch to Pro. Read my Kraken review.
Buy Jupiter (JUP) On MEXC
Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. It attracts people hunting small-cap altcoins, but I do not recommend it for Canadians.
MEXC lists JUP, with spot fees of 0% maker and 0.05% taker and no verified CAD funding. Its User Agreement, last updated May 29, 2025, names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction. Read my MEXC review.
Buy Jupiter (JUP) On Bitunix
Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I do not recommend it for Canadians.
Bitunix lists JUP, with spot fees of 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker at the base tier and no CAD funding. Its restricted regions notice names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.
Buy Jupiter (JUP) On Crypto.com
Crypto.com serves Canadians through Foris DAX CAN ULC, a CSA Restricted Dealer. Its Canadian marketing says maker and taker fees run as low as 0.08% and 0.18%, but I could not retrieve its Canadian fee schedule, so treat that as a best case and read the order preview. Deposits by bank transfer, card or crypto are listed as zero-fee. Read my Crypto.com review.
How Do You Buy Jupiter (JUP) In Canada Step By Step?
- Sign up to Kraken. I use Kraken here because it is the first CSA-registered platform in the table above that lists JUP. Download the app or use the website.
- Verify your identity. Upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours, so do it before you plan to buy.
- Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free on Kraken, and a wire or debit card also works. Cards cost more.
- Find JUP. Search for the name and the ticker and check that both match. Some tickers are shared by unrelated coins, so confirm you picked Jupiter.
- Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Use Kraken Pro rather than Instant Buy if you can, because 0.40% to 0.80% beats 1%.
- Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Check that the wallet supports JUP and its network, and send a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.
Which Wallets Support Jupiter (JUP), And How Do You Move It There?
JUP is a token on Solana with the mint address JUPyiwrYJFskUPiHa7hkeR8VUtAeFoSYbKedZNsDvCN, and Jupiter warns you to verify it because imposter tokens exist on both decentralized and centralized venues. Phantom supports tokens created with the Solana SPL Token program, and each network has one receive address, so a Solana address receives SOL and Solana tokens. Phantom supports Ledger hardware wallets: accounts can be added by USB to the browser extension, and the Solana app must be open on the Ledger.
When sending SPL tokens, Phantom checks whether the recipient has a token account and helps create an Associated Token Account if not, and you need SOL to pay network fees. Phantom's guide warns that an error in the address, token or network can lose funds permanently, and advises copy-pasting addresses and verifying the selected token and network at each step.
How Risky Is Jupiter (JUP)?
Any coin outside the top few can fall hard and trade thinly, and JUP is no exception. Thin trading means a wider gap between the buy and sell price, and that gap is a real cost on a small order. Buy only what you can lose, and decide in advance whether this is a trade or a long-term hold. I do not make price predictions, and nobody else can either.
How Do You Store Jupiter (JUP)?
Keeping your JUP safe is something you must do if you do not want to risk it being stolen. For safekeeping, use a private crypto wallet. Choose one of the crypto wallets I reviewed, and then send your JUP from the exchange you used to buy it to your wallet. If you buy any valuable cryptocurrency, always move it to a private wallet to keep it secure. Check that the wallet supports the coin and its network first, because sending to an unsupported address can lose the funds for good. Write your recovery phrase on paper, never store it in a photo or a cloud note, and never share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.
How Do You Sell Jupiter (JUP) In Canada?
To sell, go to the exchange where you bought it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then click sell. You can swap JUP for another cryptocurrency, or sell it for Canadian dollars if the exchange offers that, and then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees and limits differ by platform. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.
Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Jupiter (JUP) In Canada?
Buying JUP with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.
What Changed For Buying Jupiter (JUP) In Canada In October 2026?
- Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
- MEXC updated its User Agreement, and Canada is named as a prohibited jurisdiction.
- The CSA issued a Restricted Dealer decision for Foris DAX CAN ULC, the entity behind Crypto.com in Canada.
