Cards are the quickest way to fund, but they usually cost more than a bank deposit, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

What Is DigiByte (DGB) Used For?

DigiByte describes itself as a pure proof-of-work UTXO blockchain with 15-second block times and a twelve-year history of uninterrupted uptime. DGB is the native coin. Beyond payments, the official site lists DigiAssets, decentralised Digi-ID authentication and DigiDollar, which it calls a native, non-custodial stablecoin now live on mainnet.

How Does DigiByte (DGB) Work?

DigiByte secures blocks with five independent proof-of-work algorithms: SHA-256d, Scrypt, Skein, Qubit and Odocrypt. Each targets a different class of mining hardware, and the site says Odocrypt re-randomises itself every 10 days to keep ASIC dominance off the table. The project also lists protocol features it has shipped since 2014, including DigiShield for difficulty adjustment, MultiAlgo, SegWit, Odocrypt, Dandelion++, DigiAssets and Digi-ID.

DigiDollar minting and redeeming happens inside the official DigiByte Core wallet, where DGB is locked in a vault secured by your own keys.

What Are The Risks Of Holding DigiByte (DGB)?

• Very limited Canadian listings: the only listing I could verify is on Crypto.com, so liquidity for Canadians depends on one platform.
• Stablecoin feature risk: DigiDollar is a new feature, and any new mechanism that locks DGB in a vault carries design and software risk.
• Proof-of-work security depends on miners: the multi-algorithm design is the project's answer, but security still depends on hash power.
• Market risk: the project makes no promise of returns.

The official wallet is DigiByte Core, supported on Windows, Linux and macOS. The DigiByte Integration Guide says DigiByte is integrated into hundreds of third-party exchanges, wallets and platforms, and refers to Ledger support. I could not confirm a complete list of mobile wallets on the project's own site, so check that any wallet you choose lists DGB on its own support page before you send coins.

How Do You Move DigiByte (DGB) From An Exchange To A Wallet?

1. Install DigiByte Core from the official site or another wallet that lists DGB, and write down your recovery phrase offline.
2. Generate a receive address in the wallet.
3. On the exchange, withdraw DGB to that address, selecting the DigiByte network.
4. Send a small test amount first. With 15-second block times the project describes, it should confirm quickly.
5. If you use DigiByte Core, remember that a full wallet must sync the blockchain before it shows your balance.

What Should You Check Before Buying DigiByte (DGB)?
