To buy Chromia (CHR) in Canada, use a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars and buy. On my scorecard that means Kraken and Crypto.com. Kraken comes first in the table below, and CHR is on its asset list.

BloFin and MEXC also lists CHR but are offshore, so read the labels in the table before you consider them.

  1. BloFin, 9.6: offshore, 0.1% spot
  2. Kraken, 9.2: CSA-registered, Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1%
  3. MEXC, 7.0: offshore, 0% maker / 0.05% taker
  4. Crypto.com: CSA-registered, Not published for Canada

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

Why Buy Chromia (CHR)?

Chromia (CHR) isn’t just another cryptocurrency. It’s the backbone of a relational blockchain platform, making dApps more scalable and user-friendly with real-world data handling. Canadians might be drawn to its practical tech, whether you’re in Vancouver or the Prairies.

I am not quoting a live CHR price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price. And a quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so weigh the ups and downs before jumping in.

What Is Chromia (CHR) And What Is It Used For?

Chromia’s documentation calls it a relational blockchain platform that combines traditional database strengths with blockchain security. Developers write apps in Rell, a language built for relational blockchains, and each app runs on its own dedicated chain. The project’s site says mainnet has been live since July 2024 and that the network is anchored to Ethereum.

CHR has three jobs on the official site: apps spend CHR for execution capacity so end users pay no gas, providers stake CHR to secure the network and earn rewards, and holders vote on which network operators to select. The official wallet and asset management interface is Chromia Vault, where you can stake CHR and delegate to providers.

What Risks Come With Chromia (CHR)?

Because apps pay the costs, CHR demand depends on real apps running on Chromia. The site says network security depends on independent operators taking part. I did not find a published risk page, so check the staking terms in Chromia Vault before you delegate, including any lock-up.

Always confirm which network a deposit address is for.

Where Can You Buy Chromia (CHR) In Canada?

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include CHR, in my fixed order. Wealthsimple Crypto, Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Shakepay are left out because I could not confirm a CHR listing on any of them. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.

Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.

How Do The Fees Compare?

Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker and drops with volume, while Instant Buy costs 1% plus spread; Crypto.com’s Canadian fee schedule is not published, so I can’t compare it.

Fees change, so treat the published numbers above as a guide and read the fee preview on the order screen before you confirm.

Kraken: Best For Lower Fees And Deeper Coin Choice

9.2/10

Best for: buyers who want a wide coin list and lower fees on Kraken Pro once they are past the first purchase.

It scores 9.2 out of 10 on my scorecard. CHR is on Kraken’s asset list, but Kraken’s Canadian restrictions list bars some tickers, so confirm CHR is tradable for a Canadian account. A CAD 30,000 rolling 12-month net purchase limit applies to most clients on every coin except BTC, ETH, LTC and BCH; check your province on Kraken’s page. Interac withdrawals cost CAD 10.

  • CAD FundingCrypto.com advertises instant, zero-fee deposits by bank transfer, debit or credit card, or crypto wallet. Other fees and spread may apply.

It is not scored on my scorecard. CHR is on the Crypto.com Exchange venue’s spot list. The Canadian app list is narrower and not published, so check inside the app before you rely on it.

How Do I Buy Chromia (CHR) In Canada Step By Step?

These steps use Kraken, the first CSA-registered exchange in the table above. The same flow works on the other registered platforms that list CHR.

  1. Create a Kraken account. Sign up, then verify your identity. Canadians are served by Payward Canada Inc.
  2. Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer is free, with a minimum of CAD 5 and up to CAD 10,000 per transaction. A domestic wire is also free.
  3. Find CHR and check it is open to you. Kraken’s Canadian restrictions list bars some tickers, so search for CHR before you count on it.
  4. Buy CHR on Kraken Pro. Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker. Instant Buy costs 1% plus spread, which is simpler but dearer.
  5. Move long-term CHR to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first. Kraken’s CAD 30,000 rolling 12-month net purchase limit may apply to your account.

You can use a credit or debit card if you want to buy CHR as quickly as possible, but cards usually cost more than Interac e-Transfer, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

Which Wallets Can Hold Chromia (CHR), And How Do I Move It There?

Chromia’s own site names Chromia Vault as the official wallet and asset interface. It lets you stake CHR, delegate to providers and open apps in the ecosystem. Use it to hold CHR when you plan to stake, and always test with a small transfer first.

  1. Pick the network first. Open the withdrawal screen, choose CHR, and look at which networks it offers. Match the network to the one your wallet supports.
  2. Copy the receiving address from the wallet. Use the copy button and not retyping, and check the first and last few characters after you paste.
  3. Add a memo or tag if the withdrawal screen asks for one. Leaving it out is how coins go missing.
  4. Send a small test amount. Wait for it to arrive, then send the rest. Withdrawal fees apply each time, so the test costs a little.
  5. Record the transfer. Moving your own coins between your accounts is not a sale, but note the date, amount and fees for your tax records.

How Do I Store Chromia (CHR) Safely In Canada?

For short-term trading, keeping CHR on a registered exchange is fine if you have turned on two-factor authentication. But for long-term holding, transfer it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked. My guide to the best wallets for Canadians covers the options.

Quick tip: a hardware wallet like Ledger or a software one like Trust Wallet keeps your coins in your own hands, but check that the wallet supports CHR on the right network before you send anything. Stash that seed phrase somewhere secure, and never on your phone.

How Do I Sell Chromia (CHR) In Canada?

Ready to cash out? Selling CHR is a snap. Move your CHR back to your exchange wallet if it is in a private one. On Kraken and Crypto.com, hit sell and convert to CAD. Then withdraw by e-Transfer or wire. For the slickest cash-out tricks, watch my video for fees and timing tips.

Withdrawal costs differ by platform: Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Do I Pay Tax When I Buy Chromia (CHR) In Canada?

Buying CHR with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap, including on offshore platforms. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying Chromia (CHR) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Robinhood completed its WonderFi acquisition, and Coinsquare customers are being moved in phases to the Robinhood app.
  • MEXC updated its User Agreement, which names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Buy Chromia (CHR) In Canada?

Yes, on several platforms. BloFin, Kraken, MEXC and Crypto.com list CHR on their asset lists. Kraken and Crypto.com are CSA-registered. BloFin and MEXC are offshore. Always confirm the coin in the Canadian app before you fund an account.

What Is The Best Place To Buy CHR In Canada?

Start with a CSA-registered exchange. From the registered platforms that list CHR, Kraken ranks highest on my scorecard at 9.2 out of 10. Compare the fee preview on each before you confirm, because the published fee is only part of the cost.

How Do I Pay For CHR In Canada?

Interac e-Transfer or bank transfer is the cheapest route on the registered platforms that offer it, and several take it free of charge. Cards are quicker but usually cost more, and some Canadian banks block them.

Are The Offshore Exchanges That List CHR Safe For Canadians?

BloFin and MEXC are not registered with the CSA, and their terms restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I list them for completeness, but a registered exchange is the safer route.

What Is The Chromia (CHR) Price In CAD?

The price moves constantly, so any number printed here would be stale. Check the live CAD price on the exchange you plan to use, and compare it with the final quote on the order screen, which includes the platform’s fee or spread.

Is Chromia (CHR) A Good Investment For Canadians?

CHR’s scalable tech has potential, but crypto is volatile. Only risk what you’re okay losing. I don’t make price predictions, and nothing here is financial advice.

Do I Pay Tax When I Sell Or Swap CHR In Canada?

Possibly. Buying CHR with Canadian dollars is not taxable by itself, but selling, swapping or spending it can be. The CRA treats crypto as a commodity, and you may report business income or a capital gain depending on your activity. Keep a record of every transaction.
