The Trezor Safe 3 is a USD 59 button wallet with a Secure Element, and the Model T is a discontinued touchscreen model. The honest one-line difference: the Model T is nicer to use but is no longer sold, and the Safe 3 is the safer buy.
Trezor Safe 3 Vs Trezor Model T: Which Is Better For Canadians?
For most Canadians, the Trezor Safe 3 is the better pick because Trezor Model T is discontinued. My #1 wallet pick overall is the Trezor Safe 7 (9.6/10).
What Happens If You Lose Your Trezor Safe 3 Or Trezor Model T?
Trezor Safe 3: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup; 2 x 20-word backup cards in the box. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).
Trezor Model T: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup (Shamir); 2 wallet backup cards. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).

This is a comparison between a USD 59 current wallet and a wallet Trezor no longer sells. If you own a Model T, the question is whether to keep using it. If you are shopping, the Model T is off the table and the real choice is Safe 3 or Safe 5. I will cover both readers.
Is The Trezor Model T Still Safe?
It depends on how you use it, and the honest answer has two halves. First, the hardware: Trezor's Model T page now says the Model T is no longer sold, and names the Safe 5 as the successor, noting that the Safe 5 comes with a Secure Element chip. That wording implies the Model T has none, and the page does not state one. In January 2020 Kraken Security Labs showed that with physical access and a voltage glitch of the microcontroller, a Model One or Model T seed could be extracted in about 15 minutes. Trezor's reply was that a passphrase fully protects against it and that it is a chip limitation firmware cannot fix (Kraken Security Labs). So an unlocked, passphrase-less Model T in a thief's hands is a real risk. With a passphrase, Trezor says you are covered.
Second, the software: an unsold device still needs firmware support, and I could not confirm Trezor's long-term update commitment for the Model T from the pages I fetched. Check Trezor's firmware changelog for your model before you rely on it.
Which Is More Secure, Safe 3 Or Model T?
The Safe 3 is the stronger design on paper. It has a certified EAL6+ Secure Element, Trezor's open-source security, a passphrase, 12, 20 and 24 word backups with multi-share (Shamir) backup, and two 20-word backup cards in the box. It also has a record: in March 2025 Ledger Donjon reused a known voltage-glitch attack on the Safe 3's microcontroller to bypass some of its supply-chain countermeasures. The risk is mostly to devices tampered with before they reach you, Trezor says no action is needed for official purchases, and it disclosed the issue itself. The Safe 5, Model One and Model T were not affected (The Block). The upshot: the Model T avoided that particular attack, but its page implies it lacks the Secure Element that the Safe 3 has.
Which Is Easier To Use?
The Model T is the nicer to use: a 1.54 inch colour touchscreen at 240 x 240 and a microSD slot. The Safe 3 has a 0.96 inch monochrome OLED at 128 x 64 and a two-button pad, and you navigate with the buttons. If you have used a touchscreen, going to buttons is a step back. Both use a USB cable with no wireless, and the Safe 3 runs Trezor Suite on Android, Mac, Windows and Linux with limited iOS compatibility. For typing a long passphrase, a touchscreen helps.
Which Supports More Coins?
The Safe 3 lists thousands of coins and tokens, and offers a Bitcoin-only edition next to the Universal edition, which is a real option if you only hold Bitcoin. I could not confirm coin support for the Model T from its discontinued page. If you own one, check your coin against Trezor's current list before moving funds.

Duties and a CAD price are decided at Trezor's checkout. The Model T is only available second-hand, which raises a supply-chain question I would not accept for a device that stores money. Anyone buying hardware should buy from the maker or an authorised reseller, which is also the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's advice, and should write the backup on paper or steel, never in a photo or a note on a phone.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Either way, you withdraw to your own address from Coinbase or Kraken, tick "sending to myself" where asked and expect a Travel Rule prompt over CA$1,000. Moving coins from a Model T to a new Trezor is not a disposition for the CRA, so migrating costs you only network fees.
Which Should You Choose?
Buying new: the Safe 3 for Bitcoin or a tight budget, the Safe 5 for a touchscreen. Which Trezor model is best? If you have the money, the Safe 7, the model I keep my ETH, SOL and XRP on. Owning a Model T: use a passphrase, keep it, and plan to move to a Safe 5 when convenient. See Trezor Safe 5 Vs Trezor Model T and Trezor Safe 3 Vs Ledger Nano X.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Trezor Model T Still Safe?
With a passphrase, Trezor says the 2020 voltage-glitch extraction is covered. The Model T is discontinued, and its page implies it lacks a Secure Element. For large holdings, move to a Safe 5.
Which Trezor Model Is Best?
The Safe 7 is the top of the range and the one I use. The Safe 5 is the best value touchscreen and the Safe 3 the cheapest, with a Bitcoin-only edition.
Is Trezor Safe 3 Good?
Yes for USD 59: an EAL6+ Secure Element, open source, a passphrase and a Bitcoin-only edition. It has buttons, not a touchscreen, and Ledger Donjon found a supply-chain bypass in 2025 that Trezor disclosed.
Which Wallet Is The Best To Use With Trezor?
Trezor Suite is the first-party app for Android, Mac, Windows and Linux. Trezor also lists 30+ third-party wallet apps on its Safe 7 page.
Can I Still Buy A Trezor Model T In Canada?
Trezor no longer sells it. A second-hand unit raises a supply-chain risk, so buy a Safe 3 or Safe 5 instead.
Do The Trezor Safe 3 And The Trezor Model T Ship To Canada?
Trezor Safe 3: not stated; Amazon Canada is listed as an authorised reseller. Trezor Model T: not applicable: discontinued.
