MEXC lists about 1,425 spot assets and charges 0.05% on a taker order. Beaver lists one and charges 1.5%. The cheaper, bigger one prohibits Canadians in its user agreement. The smaller one is Canadian.
MEXC Vs Beaver Bitcoin: Which Is Better For Canadians?
For most Canadians, MEXC is the better choice (it wins on my ranking). Beaver Bitcoin still comes out ahead on canadian status.
MEXC is offshore: not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies.

Beaver Bitcoin
Description
MEXC is a large offshore exchange known for a huge altcoin list and zero maker fees on spot. It is not registered in Canada and its User Agreement names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction, so Canadians are not permitted to register or trade.
Beaver Bitcoin is a Canadian, Bitcoin-only service built around self-custody. Every purchase is delivered straight to your own wallet and Beaver holds nothing for you, so you need a Bitcoin wallet before you can buy. It offers automatic recurring buys by pre-authorized debit.
Coins
1,425 spot base assets tradable per the public API (1,813 spot pairs), 2026-10-01.
Bitcoin only.
Fees
Spot 0% maker and 0.05% taker (0.04% taker with the 20% MX discount); some special pairs cost more. Futures 0% maker. No CAD funding.
One flat 1.5% fee on buys, shown in the price. Beaver pays the Bitcoin network fee on every delivery. In Oleg's test a CAD 100 buy delivered CAD 98.50 of BTC. No spread beyond the stated fee is claimed.

What Happens To Your Money If MEXC Or Beaver Bitcoin Fails?
MEXC:MEXC is not registered with the CSA, is not a CIRO member and has no FINTRAC MSB registration, so no Canadian regulator oversees it. It is not on the CSA banned list either, but it prohibits Canada in its own terms, so an account opened from Canada can be frozen with funds inside. CIPF never covers crypto. Insurance and proof of reserves were not verified. If the exchange fails or is hacked, a Canadian has no regulator to turn to.
Beaver Bitcoin: Beaver is a FINTRAC-registered money services business, which covers anti-money-laundering reporting, not investor protection: it is not on the CSA list and CIPF does not apply. Because it holds no customer bitcoin, a hack or failure of Beaver would mostly hit money in transit or a pending order, not your stored coins. The residual risks are a failed or delayed purchase, an unpublished sell process, and the shorter operating history since 2022. Its FINTRAC number changed in 2026 after the old registration expired.
How Are MEXC And Beaver Bitcoin Treated For Tax In Canada?
MEXC: Spot sales and crypto-to-crypto trades are dispositions for CRA purposes. No tax export was verified, so rebuild records from trade history.
Beaver Bitcoin: Buying bitcoin with CAD is not a disposition. Selling for CAD, or spending bitcoin, is a disposition you report to the CRA. Beaver publishes no tax export that we could verify, so keep your own records.
Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.
Which Should You Choose, MEXC Or Beaver Bitcoin?
Choose MEXC If
You want a huge altcoin list: MEXC bars Canada, so compare registered Canadian dealers instead.
Choose Beaver Bitcoin If
You want bitcoin delivered straight to your own wallet with no account balance
You want a simple recurring buy by pre-authorized debit
You accept a flat 1.5% fee and a FINTRAC-only registration
Is MEXC Or Beaver Bitcoin Better For Canadians In 2026?
Beaver Bitcoin, because it is the only one a Canadian can use under its own terms. Beaver is a FINTRAC-registered Canadian service taking Interac e-Transfer, bill payment, wire and pre-authorized debit. MEXC is rank 9 on my list at 7.0, but that is a product score, not a permission slip.
On a CAD 1,000 taker order, MEXC charges CAD 0.50 and Beaver charges CAD 15.00. The maker rate on MEXC spot is 0%. That is a thirty-fold gap and it is the reason Canadians keep looking at MEXC.
A cheap fee on a platform you cannot fund in CAD, and whose terms bar you, is not a cheap trade. You would pay a registered platform first, withdraw crypto, and hope the account stays open. Beaver is the whole transaction in one step.
Do Cheap Fees Matter When The Account Can Be Frozen?
MEXC's own terms prohibit Canada, so an account opened from Canada can be frozen with funds inside, and there is no Canadian regulator or CIPF to go to. That risk is not in the fee line, and it is the largest cost on the page.
Beaver's risks are small by comparison: a delayed order, an unpublished sell process and a track record since 2022. Because Beaver sends bitcoin to your address, there is no balance to freeze.
Which Is Safer For Canadians?
Beaver, on structure and on terms. It holds no customer bitcoin and its FINTRAC registration was renewed under a new number on July 13, 2026. It is not a securities-regulated product, and there is no CIPF.
MEXC offers neither oversight nor custody proof: insurance, reserves and cold storage share were not verified, and CIPF never covers crypto.
Who Should Choose MEXC And Who Should Choose Beaver Bitcoin?
Beaver asks for a photo of a valid government ID, an address, a job title and a selfie. SIN is not stated and clearing time is not published. MEXC's KYC process was not verified, and Canadians are barred under the User Agreement in any case.
Beaver's help centre has a request form and an email address, with personal support. MEXC's support route was not verified.
What Is The Tax Picture For Each?
Buying bitcoin with CAD at Beaver is not a disposition. Selling for CAD, or spending bitcoin, is. At MEXC, spot sales and crypto-to-crypto trades are dispositions for CRA purposes.
Neither offers a tax export I could verify. Rebuild your records from trade history at MEXC. At Beaver, keep the confirmations for each buy, because they are your cost basis.
Is There A Cheaper Canadian Route Than Beaver's 1.5%?
Several, depending on what you buy and how. Registered exchanges that use an order book can cost less than 1.5% on a limit order, and flat-fee dealers can too. The trade-off is that your coins usually sit in their custody until you withdraw. The cheapest registered options are laid out in the best crypto exchanges in Canada list, with the costs I could verify.
Beaver's 1.5% buys one specific thing, delivery to your own wallet with the network fee covered. Price that against the alternatives, not against an exchange that is closed to you.
