Both are CSA-registered, and that is where the similarity ends. Robinhood tells you its fee in a PDF, 0.50% now and 0.95% from November 1, 2026. Crypto.com has not published a Canadian fee schedule that I could verify, so you learn the cost at the order preview.

What Are The Key Differences Between Crypto.com And Robinhood?
Crypto.com Vs Robinhood: Side By Side
Crypto.com
Robinhood
Description
Crypto.com is one of the world's largest crypto platforms and one of the few global exchanges registered to operate in Canada, through Foris DAX CAN ULC as a restricted dealer. It offers its own coin (CRO), staking, a Visa prepaid crypto card with cashback, and an all-in-one app.
Robinhood Canada is the Canadian crypto service of Robinhood Markets, built on the platform of Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd. after Robinhood closed its WonderFi purchase on June 1, 2026. Former Bitbuy and Coinsquare customers are being moved into the Robinhood app.
Coins
400+ on its global exchange, though the list for Canadians is smaller because registered platforms must restrict certain assets. USDT has not been available to Canadians since 2023-01-31. The exact Canadian app list is not published.
50+ cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, DOGE, ADA, AVAX, XLM, LINK, SHIB, LTC, PEPE, AAVE, BONK and WIF. A few former Bitbuy and Coinsquare coins were not carried over at launch.
Fees
The Canadian app fee schedule is not published. Canada marketing says maker and taker fees from 0.08% and 0.18%; the global Exchange starts at 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker (Level 1). App purchases carry a spread. CAD deposits by Interac e-Transfer are free.
0.50% of the CAD trade value on every buy and sell, minimum CAD 0.01, through October 31, 2026, then 0.95% from November 1, 2026. Robinhood says it receives none of the spread. No Robinhood fee on Interac e-Transfer deposits or withdrawals, or on crypto transfers (network fees apply).
Pros
One of only two major global exchanges registered as a restricted dealer in Canada
Wide range of coins
Suitable for beginners and pro traders
Interac e-Transfer with free deposits
Staking available (assets and rates not verified)
CIRO-registered investment dealer (Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd.)
Flat percentage fee with no hidden Robinhood spread
Free Interac e-Transfer with Robinhood (bank may charge)
Send and receive crypto to external wallets with no Robinhood fee
No inactivity or account maintenance fees
CAD balances covered by CIPF within limits
Cons
Only CAD is accepted for the Canadian CAD Account, no credit or debit card for CAD funding verified
Coin selection in Canada is smaller than the global exchange
App pricing includes a spread on top of quoted fees
USDT delisted for Canadians, and no margin or leverage under restricted dealer conditions
Some altcoins carry annual purchase limits outside BC, AB, MB and QC (see Account Limits)
Customer service is a common complaint, chat-based and often slow (Oleg's original note, not re-tested)
Fee rises from 0.50% to 0.95% on November 1, 2026
Market orders only at launch; no limit orders, no coin-to-coin swaps
Staking was announced as coming soon, not yet live
Crypto is not covered by CIPF
Robinhood Canada iOS app rated 2.9 from only 97 ratings
Reddit reports of slow Interac funding and support (lead, not verified)
Security
Crypto.com describes cold storage and security certifications, but a Canadian page with cold storage share, insurance amount or proof of reserves was not found. Treat those claims as unverified. Crypto.com's own FAQ says nothing about CIPF covering crypto, and CIPF never covers crypto.
Custodial storage with crime insurance against theft and cyber breaches (amount not published), and Robinhood says it does not lend or leverage customer crypto. CAD held in segregated accounts at a Canadian bank and covered by CIPF within limits. CIPF does not cover crypto.
Methods To Buy
Interac e-Transfer (CAD Account), crypto deposits. Cards and other methods were not verified for Canada.
Interac e-Transfer (minutes) and domestic CAD wire (1 to 3 business days), plus crypto deposits. USD only through the OTC desk at launch.

Crypto.com: Canadian app fee schedule and spread not published on a fetched page (2026-10-03). Do not compute an all-in cost. Robinhood: 0.50% per order through Oct 31, 2026, 0.95% from Nov 1, 2026 (CCML fee schedule effective 2026-10-01); Robinhood says it keeps no spread. Slippage within 1% on buys and 5% on sells passes to the client. Ranges reflect each platform’s published band, not a single quote. Bank and network fees are not included.
What Do Crypto.com And Robinhood Offer Beyond Buying And Selling?
Crypto.com Only
CAD Account: Hold CAD, deposit by Interac, balance cap CAD 100,000 (higher for Prime). Sell crypto to CAD and withdraw to your bank.
Welcome Bonus: Canada keeps the legacy milestone-based Welcome Bonus after KYC; the amount was not verified.
Robinhood Only
Staking (announced): ETH and SOL staking from about CAD 1, listed as coming soon; CCML's schedule shows a staking fee of up to 30% of rewards on the former Coinsquare platform.
OTC desk: USD deposits and large trades go through the OTC desk at launch, with a quoted spread of 0.5% to 1.85%.
Coinsquare Trade: Request-for-quote product on the Coinsquare platform with a disclosed spread of 0.5% to 1.85%.
What Happens To Your Money If Crypto.com Or Robinhood Fails?
Crypto.com:Crypto.com in Canada is a restricted dealer under the CSA, so it must hold client assets with conditions set by regulators, but CIPF never covers crypto. A third-party insurance figure, cold storage share and proof of reserves were not found on a Canadian page, so none can be relied on here. Coins are held by the company until you withdraw. If the company failed or was hacked, you would be an unsecured claimant for anything not recovered, and withdrawals could be paused.
Robinhood: Robinhood Canada runs on Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd., a CIRO investment dealer, so it is under dealer rules and CIRO supervision. CIPF covers CAD balances within limits but never crypto. Customer crypto stays in CCML's custody arrangement with crime insurance of an unpublished amount, and no proof of reserves was found. If the firm failed or was hacked, uninsured crypto would be an unsecured claim. The platform is in a migration, so features such as limit orders and swaps are still missing.
How Are Crypto.com And Robinhood Treated For Tax In Canada?
Crypto.com: Buying with CAD is not a disposition. Selling for CAD, swapping one coin for another and spending crypto are dispositions you report to the CRA. Export formats and any CRA-ready report were not verified.
Robinhood: Buying with CAD is not a disposition. Selling for CAD is, and so is any later swap or spend. Robinhood gives statements and annual tax documents for past Bitbuy and Coinsquare activity; CSV and CRA-ready exports were not verified.
Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.
Which Should You Choose, Crypto.com Or Robinhood?
Choose Crypto.com If
You want a mainstream app with a wide coin list and are fine with spread-based pricing
You are not buying on fee transparency alone, since the Canadian fee schedule is not published
Choose Robinhood If
You want one flat percentage fee and no Robinhood spread (0.50% to Oct 31, 2026, then 0.95%)
You are a former Bitbuy or Coinsquare customer moving to the new app
You are fine with market orders only for now
Is Crypto.com Or Robinhood Better For Canadians In 2026?
For most people I would start with Robinhood, and the reason is boring: I can tell you what it costs. The CCML fee schedule dated October 1, 2026 shows a flat percentage, and Robinhood says it keeps none of the spread. With Crypto.com, the Canadian app fee schedule is not published on any page I could fetch, and app purchases carry a spread on top of whatever fee is quoted. You cannot compare a number you cannot see.
Crypto.com wins on breadth of ideas rather than proof. It advertises a CAD Account, a welcome bonus, staking and a card, but the Canadian availability of most of that is unverified. Neither platform is in my top 10, so neither carries a score. See my full Crypto.com review and Robinhood review for the detail.
Which Costs Less When You Actually Trade?
Robinhood is the only one I can price. On a CAD 1,000 buy the fee is CAD 5.00 through October 31, 2026, and CAD 9.50 from November 1. One catch from the fee schedule: slippage within 1% on buys and 5% on sells passes to the client, so the stated percentage is not the whole story on a fast market.
Crypto.com's Canada marketing talks about maker and taker fees from 0.08% and 0.18%, but I cannot tie that to the app's simple buy screen, where a spread applies. I will not put a dollar figure on it. If you try it, screenshot the preview and compare it with the same order on Robinhood.
Does Robinhood's Fee Change Change The Answer?
It narrows it, not reverses it. At 0.95% Robinhood is no longer a bargain, but it is still a stated number against an unstated one. The rise also lands on a platform that only offers market orders in CAD pairs, with no limit orders and no coin-to-coin swaps at launch, so active traders get little from it.
If you hold for years, the November increase costs you CAD 4.50 more per CAD 1,000 bought. If you trade often, it matters a lot more, and a platform with limit orders may suit you better. That is the real decision.
Which Is Safer For Canadians?
Both are inside the Canadian regime, which is the main point. Robinhood sits under CIRO dealer rules, so CAD balances are covered by CIPF within limits. Crypto.com is a restricted dealer, not a CIRO member, and CIPF does not apply to it. For crypto itself neither is protected: coins are held by the company, and in a failure you would be an unsecured claimant for anything not recovered.
Robinhood says it has crime insurance but publishes no amount, and I found no proof of reserves. Crypto.com's cold storage share, insurance and proof of reserves were not on a Canadian page I could verify. Treat both claims as unproven and withdraw what you do not need on the exchange.
Who Should Choose Crypto.com And Who Should Choose Robinhood?
Choose Robinhood if you want a flat fee, you are a former Bitbuy or Coinsquare customer, and market orders are fine. Choose Crypto.com if you want a wide coin list and a CAD Account funded free by Interac, and you accept that you are buying without a published fee. You can open the Crypto.com sign-up page to see its current offer. Robinhood has no sign-up link from me, so use its own site.
What Should You Check In The App Before You Fund Either?
On Crypto.com, run the order preview on a small CAD buy and compare the price shown with the market price. That gap is the spread, and it is the only way to see the real cost. Also check that your coin is on the Canadian list, because the global count of 417 spot base assets does not tell you what a Canadian account can buy. The CAD Account takes deposits of CAD 20 to 25,000, holds up to CAD 100,000 and allows 50 deposits a day.
On Robinhood, the limit that matters is the net purchase cap on restricted coins over a rolling 12 months: CAD 5,000 for a Basic investor, CAD 30,000 for Retail and CAD 100,000 for Eligible, with no cap in BC, AB, MB and QC for the last two. BTC, ETH, LTC, BCH, SOL and USDC are exempt.
What Changes If You Came From Bitbuy Or Coinsquare?
Your account stays with Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd. and the custody arrangement is the same as before. Customers are invited in phases by email and in-app prompt, the Coinsquare app turns read-only after you switch, and it will be retired once everyone has moved. No retirement date has been published.
A few former Bitbuy and Coinsquare coins were not carried over at launch, so check your holdings in the new app before you assume everything moved. The Robinhood Canada iOS app was rated 2.90 from only 97 ratings on October 3, 2026, which is a small sample but not a warm welcome.
