What Are The Key Differences Between Crypto.com And Beaver Bitcoin?
Crypto.com Vs Beaver Bitcoin: Side By Side
Crypto.com
Beaver Bitcoin
Description
Crypto.com is one of the world's largest crypto platforms and one of the few global exchanges registered to operate in Canada, through Foris DAX CAN ULC as a restricted dealer. It offers its own coin (CRO), staking, a Visa prepaid crypto card with cashback, and an all-in-one app.
Beaver Bitcoin is a Canadian, Bitcoin-only service built around self-custody. Every purchase is delivered straight to your own wallet and Beaver holds nothing for you, so you need a Bitcoin wallet before you can buy. It offers automatic recurring buys by pre-authorized debit.
Coins
400+ on its global exchange, though the list for Canadians is smaller because registered platforms must restrict certain assets. USDT has not been available to Canadians since 2023-01-31. The exact Canadian app list is not published.
Bitcoin only.
Fees
The Canadian app fee schedule is not published. Canada marketing says maker and taker fees from 0.08% and 0.18%; the global Exchange starts at 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker (Level 1). App purchases carry a spread. CAD deposits by Interac e-Transfer are free.
One flat 1.5% fee on buys, shown in the price. Beaver pays the Bitcoin network fee on every delivery. In Oleg's test a CAD 100 buy delivered CAD 98.50 of BTC. No spread beyond the stated fee is claimed.
Pros
One of only two major global exchanges registered as a restricted dealer in Canada
Wide range of coins
Suitable for beginners and pro traders
Interac e-Transfer with free deposits
Staking available (assets and rates not verified)
Non-custodial, every buy goes to your own wallet
One flat 1.5% fee, network fee covered by Beaver
Hands-off recurring buys by pre-authorized debit
Simple interface, sign-up in a couple of minutes
Sell function too: send BTC and receive CAD
Personal support and a dedicated service above CAD 100,000
Cons
Only CAD is accepted for the Canadian CAD Account, no credit or debit card for CAD funding verified
Coin selection in Canada is smaller than the global exchange
App pricing includes a spread on top of quoted fees
USDT delisted for Canadians, and no margin or leverage under restricted dealer conditions
Some altcoins carry annual purchase limits outside BC, AB, MB and QC (see Account Limits)
Customer service is a common complaint, chat-based and often slow (Oleg's original note, not re-tested)
Bitcoin only, so altcoin buyers need to look elsewhere
Shorter track record than Bull Bitcoin or Bitcoin Well (launched 2022)
No mobile app yet, only a mobile-friendly website
Full KYC for everyone, no anonymous purchase
You must set up your own wallet first
Not on the CSA list: FINTRAC MSB only, no securities-law protections
No crypto insurance, since Beaver holds no customer assets
Security
Crypto.com describes cold storage and security certifications, but a Canadian page with cold storage share, insurance amount or proof of reserves was not found. Treat those claims as unverified. Crypto.com's own FAQ says nothing about CIPF covering crypto, and CIPF never covers crypto.
Beaver does not hold your bitcoin: it goes to your wallet address, so there is no pool of customer funds at Beaver to hack or freeze. KYC needs a government ID photo, address, job title and a selfie. Beaver is a FINTRAC MSB; it is not a CSA-registered dealer.
Methods To Buy
Interac e-Transfer (CAD Account), crypto deposits. Cards and other methods were not verified for Canada.
Interac e-Transfer (Instant Buy), bill payment and wire (Large Buy), pre-authorized debit (Recurring Buy).
App
Apple Canada 4.63 (66,198 ratings), Google Play 4.4 (692K reviews, global store total), checked 2026-10-01.
No mobile app; the website is fully mobile-friendly.
Account Limits
CAD Account deposits CAD 20 to 25,000 each, balance cap CAD 100,000. As a restricted dealer, Crypto.com applies regulator-set net purchase limits on non-major assets;
Instant Buy by e-Transfer up to CAD 20,000. Large Buy by bill payment or wire up to CAD 100,000. Above CAD 100,000, Beaver Plaid personal service. Recurring Buy weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

Sell Bitcoin: Sell BTC for CAD; terms are in the help centre.
What Happens To Your Money If Crypto.com Or Beaver Bitcoin Fails?
Crypto.com:Crypto.com in Canada is a restricted dealer under the CSA, so it must hold client assets with conditions set by regulators, but CIPF never covers crypto. A third-party insurance figure, cold storage share and proof of reserves were not found on a Canadian page, so none can be relied on here. Coins are held by the company until you withdraw. If the company failed or was hacked, you would be an unsecured claimant for anything not recovered, and withdrawals could be paused.
Beaver Bitcoin: Beaver is a FINTRAC-registered money services business, which covers anti-money-laundering reporting, not investor protection: it is not on the CSA list and CIPF does not apply. Because it holds no customer bitcoin, a hack or failure of Beaver would mostly hit money in transit or a pending order, not your stored coins. The residual risks are a failed or delayed purchase, an unpublished sell process, and the shorter operating history since 2022. Its FINTRAC number changed in 2026 after the old registration expired.
How Are Crypto.com And Beaver Bitcoin Treated For Tax In Canada?
Crypto.com: Buying with CAD is not a disposition. Selling for CAD, swapping one coin for another and spending crypto are dispositions you report to the CRA. Export formats and any CRA-ready report were not verified.
Beaver Bitcoin: Buying bitcoin with CAD is not a disposition. Selling for CAD, or spending bitcoin, is a disposition you report to the CRA. Beaver publishes no tax export that we could verify, so keep your own records.
Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.
Which Should You Choose, Crypto.com Or Beaver Bitcoin?
Choose Crypto.com If
You want a mainstream app with a wide coin list and are fine with spread-based pricing
You are not buying on fee transparency alone, since the Canadian fee schedule is not published
Choose Beaver Bitcoin If
You want bitcoin delivered straight to your own wallet with no account balance
You want a simple recurring buy by pre-authorized debit
You accept a flat 1.5% fee and a FINTRAC-only registration
Is Crypto.com Or Beaver Bitcoin Better For Canadians In 2026?
It depends on whether you want one coin or many, and neither is in my top 10, so neither carries a score from me. Crypto.com is Foris DAX CAN ULC, an Alberta unlimited liability corporation, and a CSA restricted dealer (decision May 8, 2025) with FINTRAC MSB C100000094 through June 30, 2027. It is not a CIRO member.
Beaver Bitcoin is Dam Good Money Corp., an idea from 2021 that launched in 2022, led by founder and CEO Aubrey (surname not published). It is a FINTRAC-registered money services business only, not on the CSA list, with no CIRO membership and no CIPF. Its current FINTRAC number, N300000998, was registered on July 13, 2026, and runs to November 30, 2028. Its older number, M21577275, expired on November 11, 2025. Check the live registry before a large buy.
Which Costs Less When You Actually Trade?
Beaver publishes one number. It charges a flat 1.5% on bitcoin purchases, and it pays the Bitcoin network fee for delivery. On CAD 1,000 that is CAD 15, and the network fee saving is the part that makes it a fair deal. The sell fee is not published.
Crypto.com's Canadian app fee schedule is not published on any page I could fetch. Canada marketing mentions maker and taker rates from 0.08% and 0.18%, and the global Exchange L1 tier is 0.25% and 0.50%, but app buys include a spread. I will not compute an all-in cost for it. Compare the in-app quote with a live price before you buy.
Funding on Crypto.com goes through a CAD Account: Interac e-Transfer, free from Crypto.com, CAD 20 to 25,000 per deposit, with a balance cap of CAD 100,000. Cash-out needs at least one prior CAD deposit and an internal review that can take one to three business days.
Which Is Safer For Canadians?
Beaver holds no customer bitcoin. It is delivered to your address, so a failure would mostly hit money in transit or a pending order, not stored coins. The risks left are a delayed purchase, an unpublished sell process, a short operating history and the lack of any investor protection scheme.
Crypto.com holds coins until you withdraw. I found no insurance figure, cold-storage share or proof of reserves on a Canadian page, so I do not rely on any of them. If it were hacked or failed, you would be an unsecured claimant for what was not recovered, and withdrawals could pause. The CSA decision adds oversight and conditions. It does not add CIPF cover, since CIPF never covers crypto.
Bitcoin Delivered To Your Wallet Or A Wide App?
Beaver has three ways to buy: Instant Buy by e-Transfer up to CAD 20,000, Large Buy by bill payment or wire up to CAD 100,000, and Recurring Buy by pre-authorized debit. A personal service, Beaver Plaid, handles amounts above CAD 100,000. There is no account balance and no altcoin.
Crypto.com has 417 spot base assets on its global Exchange, and the Canadian list is narrower and not published. It also offers a CAD Account and a welcome bonus for Canada (amount not verified). USDT is not available to Canadians. If you want a self-custody habit, Beaver fits. If you want one app for many coins, Crypto.com fits.
Who Should Choose Crypto.com And Who Should Choose Beaver Bitcoin?
These two do different jobs, so pick the job first.
Choose Crypto.com if you want a broad app and a CAD Account. You want free Interac funding, many coins in one place, and are fine with spread-based pricing you will have to check yourself.
Choose Beaver Bitcoin if you want bitcoin and only bitcoin. You want delivery straight to your own address, a flat 1.5% fee with the network fee paid, and a recurring buy by pre-authorized debit. I do not have a sign-up link for Beaver, so go to its site directly.
The CSA issued its restricted dealer decision for Foris DAX CAN ULC (Crypto.com).
