Warning: Neither platform is available to Canadians, and CoinField is not a legitimate operating exchange anywhere. Bitget restricted Canadian users in early 2026 following new CSA guidance. CoinField collapsed in 2023, left customer withdrawal requests unfulfilled, and in 2025 Ontario's Capital Markets Tribunal permanently banned it and ordered over $3 million in combined penalties, disgorgement and costs for unregistered trading, illegal distribution and misleading investors. Scam impostor sites now operate under the CoinField name, if you find a site accepting deposits as "CoinField," it is a fraud. This comparison is preserved for historical reference only.

In the fast-paced cryptocurrency market, Bitget and CoinField once offered trading services with distinct approaches. Bitget was known for its wide altcoin variety and advanced trading features. CoinField served Canadians from 2018 until its collapse in 2023. Neither is available to Canadians today.

Bitget Vs Coinfield: Which Is Better For Canadians?

Neither is an option for Canadians today. Bitget is an offshore exchange that is not registered in Canada and names Canada as a prohibited country in its Terms of Use. Coinfield shut down in 2023, and in January 2025 Ontario's Capital Markets Tribunal permanently banned its operators and ordered a CAD 2.4 million penalty. I recommend Coinbase instead (9.8/10, #1 on my list): open a Coinbase account.

What Are The Key Differences Between Bitget And Coinfield?

Bitget Vs Coinfield: Side By Side
BitgetCoinfield
DescriptionBitget is a global cryptocurrency exchange for skilled users, known for copy trading, futures and a huge altcoin selection. Bitget is no longer available to Canadians: its Terms of Use list Canada among Prohibited Countries and it states that it does not operate a financial services business in Canada.CoinField was an Estonia-based cryptocurrency exchange, operated by Manticore Labs OU, that served Canadians from 2018 until its collapse. It shut down in 2023 without meeting all customer withdrawal requests, and in January 2025 Ontario's Capital Markets Tribunal permanently banned its operators from Ontario's capital markets and ordered a penalty of about CAD 2.4 million for unregistered trading and misleading investors.
CoinsPast tense: 3,323 online spot base assets across 3,387 symbols (public API, 2026-10-02), none of which are accessible from Canada.Around 20 coins including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Stellar and USDT, but without popular assets like Cardano, Solana and Dogecoin.
FeesPast tense: spot 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker base rate per symbol in the public API (2026-10-02). Low fees were Bitget's draw, but they are irrelevant to Canadians now.CoinField charged a 2% Interac e-Transfer deposit fee, a 2.5% Interac withdrawal fee, and 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker fees, which were high compared to competitors.
Pros
  • Low trading fees
  • Huge altcoin selection
  • Advanced features like copy trading, futures and trading bots
  • None of this is available to Canadians
  • None. The platform no longer exists, and there is no legitimate way to open a CoinField account.
Cons
  • Not available in Canada, named a Prohibited Country
  • No Interac e-Transfer and no CAD support, even historically
  • Confusing for beginners
  • Never registered with Canadian securities regulators; its FINTRAC registration for Canada Bitget Limited (M20179708) expired 2023-03-31
  • Shut down in 2023 with customer withdrawal requests left unfulfilled
  • Found by Ontario's Capital Markets Tribunal to have engaged in unregistered trading, illegal distribution and misleading investors
  • Permanently banned in Ontario, with a CAD 2.4 million penalty plus disgorgement ordered in 2025
  • The tribunal found it lacked sufficient crypto assets in custody to satisfy withdrawals while telling customers otherwise
  • Scam websites impersonate the CoinField name
Securitynone of these were confirmed here.CoinField marketed itself as a secure exchange using cold storage, multi-signature wallets and encryption. The regulatory record says otherwise: customer funds were not safe. It is a textbook case for holding your own coins in your own wallet.
Methods To BuyCanadians cannot buy crypto on Bitget. The platform blocks Canadian users, and accessing it through a VPN violates Bitget's terms and can get your account frozen with funds stuck inside. There is no way to buy crypto through CoinField. A website claiming to be CoinField and accepting deposits is a scam: the OSC warned about an impostor site using the name.
AppNot applicable to Canadians.CoinField's website and apps went offline in 2023 and have not returned.
Account Limitsn/a for Canadians, since new accounts cannot be opened from Canada. No longer applicable. No longer applicable.

No CAD funding exists. Canada is a Prohibited Country in the Terms of Use (updated September 15, 2026). Earlier leads suggested an Alberta-only restriction; the official terms bar all of Canada. Platform closed in 2023. Never send funds to a site using the CoinField name.

What Do Bitget And Coinfield Offer Beyond Buying And Selling?

What Happens To Your Money If Bitget Or Coinfield Fails?

Bitget: Bitget does not serve Canada, is not on the CSA list, holds no current FINTRAC registration and is not a CIRO member. CIPF never covers crypto. A Canadian with a balance left on Bitget has no regulator to appeal to, and the terms let Bitget restrict or close accounts linked to Prohibited Countries at any time without notice. A VPN account risks a freeze with funds inside.

Coinfield: Coinfield is the failure case: the platform shut in 2023 without meeting customer withdrawal requests, and the tribunal found it lacked the crypto assets to satisfy them. The sanctions are a permanent Ontario market ban, a CAD 2.4M penalty, CAD 537,034.46 disgorgement and CAD 89,538 costs. No CIPF or other scheme covers crypto, so affected customers should watch for official notices and ignore anyone offering paid recovery.

How Are Bitget And Coinfield Treated For Tax In Canada?

Bitget: Any earlier trades or sales on Bitget are dispositions for CRA purposes. Export your full trade and transfer history while you still have access.

Coinfield: Trades on Coinfield were dispositions for CRA purposes. Keep your records, and speak to an accountant about any crypto you could not withdraw. Export formats: Not published.

Selling, swapping or spending crypto is a disposition for the CRA on any platform. This is not tax advice: see my guide to crypto taxes in Canada.

Which Should You Choose, Bitget Or Coinfield?

Choose Bitget If

  • You want copy trading or a huge altcoin list: Bitget does not serve Canadians, so use a registered Canadian platform and check what it offers.

Choose Coinfield If

  • You want a registered platform that serves Canadians today: Coinbase is our number one replacement, with free Interac e-Transfer funding and a Canadian restricted dealer registration.

What Happened To Bitget?

Bitget is not an option for Canadians. Its Terms of Use name Canada as a prohibited country, and the same page carries a banner saying Bitget does not operate a financial services business in Canada. Some search results claim the restriction only covers Alberta. The official terms say otherwise: it is all of Canada.

It is also unregistered here. Bitget sits on neither the CSA authorized list nor the CSA banned list, and the FINTRAC registry shows its Canadian money services business entry (Canada Bitget Limited, M20179708) expired on March 31, 2023, with no current registration found. No Canadian investor protection applies to anyone who gets around the terms and opens an account anyway.

There is no sign-up link for Bitget on this page, and there will not be one. If you came here for its altcoin menu or its low spot fee, the section below shows where to get the closest thing legally. Read my Bitget page for the longer history.

What Happened To Coinfield?

Coinfield shut down in 2023, and the story did not end there. On January 30, 2025, Ontario's Capital Markets Tribunal permanently banned its operators (Manticore Labs OU, an Estonia company operating as Coinfield, and Manticore Labs Inc.) from Ontario's markets. The sanctions: a CAD 2.4 million administrative penalty, CAD 537,034.46 in disgorgement and CAD 89,538 in costs.

The platform began in 2018 and had at least 1,275 Ontario clients holding about CAD 2.5 million at the end of 2022. It was an unregistered, Estonia-based operator that failed to let Ontario users withdraw. FINTRAC revoked its registration on November 10, 2023.

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. If you lost money on Coinfield, the tribunal decision is the public record to point to when you talk to a lawyer or the regulator. Read my Coinfield page for the longer history.

What Should Bitget And Coinfield Users Use Instead?

Neither platform is open to you, so the useful question is which registered Canadian platform does the same job. My ranking points to Kraken and NDAX. Both are registered in Canada, both take CAD, and both have published, checkable fees.

Kraken

CSA-registered Best for: Beginners who want to learn, then cheaper trading on Kraken Pro.

Kraken At A Glance
DetailWhat I Found
FeesKraken Pro 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker at the base tier; Instant Buy 1% plus spread
CAD FundingFree Interac e-Transfer deposits, free domestic wire
CoinsAbout 490 (derived from Kraken's public pair list)
RegistrationRestricted Dealer (Payward Canada Inc.), CSA decision April 1, 2025

Fees. Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, dropping to 0.30% and 0.60% from $2,500 in 30-day volume and to 0.22% and 0.38% from $10,000 (the schedule's own dollar figures, so check the live page). The Instant Buy and Sell button costs a 1% fee on top of the spread, and custom orders run 1.5%.

Funding And Withdrawing CAD. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free, with a CAD 5 minimum and limits of CAD 10,000 per transaction and per day, CAD 30,000 weekly and CAD 100,000 monthly. Taking CAD out by Interac costs CAD 10. A domestic wire deposit is free, with a CAD 100 minimum, though one intermediary bank fee of 13.74 is noted. Debit card deposits cost 0.25 CAD plus 3.75%.

Coins. Kraken has no official Canadian coin count. Counting its public spot pairs and removing the tickers its own Canada restrictions list bars (135 matched) leaves about 490. Margin and derivatives are off the table for Canadian clients.

Safety And Registration. Kraken (Payward Canada Inc.) is a Restricted Dealer registered with the Ontario Securities Commission and the securities regulators of each province and territory, and it holds a FINTRAC money services business registration (M19343731, expiry August 25, 2028). It is not a CIRO member. Its Proof of Reserves snapshot of June 30, 2026 showed a 102.9% reserve ratio for BTC and 100.5% for ETH. One Canadian rule to know: most clients face a CAD 30,000 rolling 12-month net purchase limit on assets other than BTC, ETH, LTC and BCH (CAD 100,000 for Eligible Investors), and it does not apply in AB, BC, MB, QC and SK.

App. The Kraken app holds a 4.62 rating from 5,662 ratings on the Canadian Apple App Store, and 4.2 across 55.1K reviews on Google Play.

The other option worth a look:

NDAX

CSA-registered, CIRO dealer NDAX suits traders who care about a low flat fee and cheap withdrawals, and anyone who wants a CIRO-regulated home for a mid-size coin list.

NDAX At A Glance
DetailWhat I Found
FeesFlat 0.20% on every buy and sell
CAD FundingFree Interac e-Transfer and wire deposits
Coins77 base assets (public API)
RegistrationCIRO investment dealer (Ndax Canada Inc.)

NDAX charges a flat 0.20% on every buy and sell, with no volume tiers and no maker or taker split. It is the lowest headline fee among the registered platforms I track. Interac e-Transfer and wire deposits are both free. Cashing out costs CAD 1.50 by Interac e-Transfer (up to CAD 10,000 per transaction) or CAD 4.99 by direct bank deposit.

How Does Kraken Compare With What Bitget Offers?

On paper Bitget is a very large altcoin venue. Its public API lists 3,323 online spot base assets and a base spot fee of 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker per symbol (checked October 2, 2026). None of that helps a Canadian: there is no CAD funding for Canada because the country is prohibited. Kraken has no official Canadian coin count. Counting its public spot pairs and removing the tickers its own Canada restrictions list bars (135 matched) leaves about 490. Margin and derivatives are off the table for Canadian clients.

Who Should Choose Kraken, And Who Should Choose NDAX?

Kraken suits people who want to start simple and move to cheaper Pro trading as they learn, and anyone who wants a wide coin menu with Canadian registration behind it.

NDAX suits traders who care about a low flat fee and cheap withdrawals, and anyone who wants a CIRO-regulated home for a mid-size coin list.

What Changed For Bitget And Coinfield In October 2026?

  • Bitget's Terms of Use still list Canada as a prohibited country, and its page says it does not operate a financial services business in Canada.
  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot trading starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Kraken received its CSA Restricted Dealer decision as Payward Canada Inc. and announced free Interac e-Transfer deposits.
