Buy a Coldcard from Coinkite's own store, or from a reseller Coinkite lists. Coinkite is a Canadian company, and the Coldcard Q currently lists at USD 369 (sale USD 319) while the Mk5 lists at USD 269 (sale USD 219). Check shipping, duties and taxes at checkout, because the product pages do not state Canadian figures. Coldcard handles Bitcoin only.

Coldcard Models On Coinkite's Store

Coldcard Q3693193.2 inch LCD, full keyboardQR scanner, NFC, USB-C, 3 AAA batteries (not included)
Coldcard Mk5269219OLED, numeric keypadMicroSD, NFC, USB-C

Both use two secure elements, a Microchip ATECC608 and a Maxim DS28C36B, and Coinkite describes the firmware as open and reproducible. My hands-on write-up is in the Coldcard Q review.

Is Coldcard Made In Canada?

Coinkite's homepage calls it a Canadian Bitcoin hardware company founded in 2012 and carries a Made in Canada badge. I cannot tell you the city or exactly where each unit is assembled, because the official pages did not say. If someone tells you a specific Toronto address, ask them for the source. What matters for you is the practical side: you are buying from a company inside Canada's borders, which usually simplifies returns and support.

Where Should You Buy A Coldcard In Canada?

  1. Go to store.coinkite.com. Type the address yourself rather than clicking an ad. Fake wallet shops are common.
  2. Choose the model. The Q suits people who want QR signing and a keyboard. The Mk5 is cheaper and simpler.
  3. Add batteries and a cable. They are not included with the Q.
  4. Check shipping and taxes at checkout. Coinkite's pages did not list Canadian shipping rates, duties or GST/HST handling, so read the final total before you pay.
  5. Verify the bag number when it arrives. Coldcard uses numbered tamper-evident bags, and the setup flow in my review shows how to check.

How Do You Pay For A Coldcard?

Coinkite lists prices in USD, so a card payment converts at your bank's rate. Many Canadians pay in bitcoin. If you do not own any yet, buy on a registered platform first: Coinbase (review), Kraken or Wealthsimple Crypto. If you prefer to buy Bitcoin only and send it straight to self-custody, Bull Bitcoin is non-custodial. See my ranking for the rest.

Is A Coldcard Right For You?

Pros

  • Bitcoin-only focus
  • Dual secure elements and open firmware
  • Air-gapped signing through microSD, NFC or QR (Q)

Cons

  • No support for other coins
  • Steeper learning curve than a Ledger or Trezor
  • Priced in USD with no Canadian figures on the product page

If you hold more than bitcoin, compare with the options in best crypto wallets for Canadians.

What Does The Coldcard Documentation Tell You To Do First?

Coldcard's own docs lead with a security instruction: before funding a wallet, check the current security status and install verified, fixed firmware before generating a seed. Do that before anything else, because a device that arrives with outdated firmware should not generate your keys. Coinkite notes that new Coldcard Q units ship with corrected firmware, but you should still verify the version on first boot against Coinkite's published notes.

How Should You Create And Back Up The Seed?

The docs recommend using the dice-roll option and a strong, unique BIP-39 passphrase, and then testing the complete recovery path before depositing funds. Dice entropy means you roll physical dice to add randomness yourself, so you do not have to trust the device's random number generator alone. In my Coldcard Q review I walk through that setup. Here are the habits that matter:

  1. Write the seed words on paper or metal. Never photograph them, type them into a phone or save them in cloud storage.
  2. Set a PIN you will remember. Coldcard's PIN has two parts, and the docs cover how to choose it.
  3. Test recovery with a small amount. Wipe the device, restore from your words, and confirm the same addresses appear.
  4. Store the backup away from the device. A fire or burglary that takes both takes everything.

What Do You Check When The Package Arrives?

Examine the outer package for damage, compare the bag number printed on the packaging with the number on the order confirmation or Coinkite's instructions, and look for signs the tamper-evident bag has been opened. If anything looks off, do not use the device. Contact Coinkite with photos. A tampered hardware wallet is a more dangerous mistake than a delayed order.

How Does Coldcard Compare With Other Wallets?

Coldcard Versus Other Wallets Reviewed On This Site
WalletCoinsPrice As ListedReview
Coldcard QBitcoin onlyUSD 369 (sale 319)Coldcard Q
Trezor Safe 5Thousands of coinsUS$129Trezor Safe 5
SafePal S1200+ blockchainsUS$49.99SafePal
Tangem 2-card set14,100+ tokens, 90+ networksUSD 54.90Tangem

If you hold only bitcoin and want the most security-focused design, Coldcard is a strong fit. If you hold many coins, a multi-asset wallet is more practical. The wallet ranking compares them all, and the Tangem Canada and BitBox, Jade, Keystone and SafePal pages cover where to buy the others.

What Does A Coldcard Cost Over Time?

The device is a one-time purchase, with no subscription listed on the store pages I read. Budget for batteries on the Q, a spare microSD card, and a metal or paper seed backup. If you pay in US dollars, add your card's conversion margin, and expect GST or HST and a possible courier fee at the border for orders shipped from outside your province. Coinkite is based in Canada, so confirm at checkout how taxes are shown for your province before you pay.

What Changed For Coldcard Buyers In October 2026?

  • : Coinkite's store listed the Coldcard Q at USD 369 with a USD 319 sale price, and the Mk5 at USD 269 with a USD 219 sale price.
  • : New Coldcard Q units were noted as shipping with corrected firmware.
