Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.

Listings are checked against each exchange's public asset feed as of October 2026. The Coinbase and Crypto.com feeds are global rather than Canada-filtered, so confirm that STORJ shows up in your Canadian app before you deposit anything. Wealthsimple Crypto publishes no machine-readable coin list, so I do not claim it carries STORJ. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.

Which Exchange Should You Use For STORJ?

  • Kraken (9.2 out of 10) CSA-registered Beginners who want to learn, then cheaper trading on Kraken Pro. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. Kraken Pro charges 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker (the taker fee is $4.00 on $500), and Instant Buy is 1% ($5.00 on $500).
  • Newton (7.9 out of 10) CSA-registered Beginners who want a Canadian-regulated dealer with free CAD funding. Interac e-Transfer, wire and EFT are free. There is no trading fee; the cost is a spread that starts at 1.00% on BTC and differs by coin, so read the quote on the order screen.
  • MEXC (7.0 out of 10) Offshore Experienced traders hunting small-cap altcoins. No CAD funding verified. Maker is 0% and taker 0.05% ($0.25 on $500) at the base tier. MEXC's User Agreement names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.
  • Crypto.com (not scored) CSA-registered A broad app with a crypto card. CAD funding methods are not something I could verify, so check inside your account. Crypto.com does not publish a Canada fee schedule that I could verify, so the in-app quote is the only reliable number.

Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and the terms of service of MEXC restrict or exclude Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. They suit experienced traders who accept that risk, not first-time buyers.

Why Buy Storj?

Storj (STORJ) isn't just another cryptocurrency. It's the token powering a decentralized cloud storage network, offering secure, private data solutions. Canadians might be drawn to its innovative storage tech and staking rewards, whether you're in Vancouver or the Prairies. But a quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in.

What Is Storj And How Does It Work?

Storj's documentation describes it as globally distributed cloud object storage that is an S3-compatible alternative to traditional providers.

It runs on thousands of storage nodes that supply existing excess capacity. Data is encrypted by default, controlled through user-assigned access grants, and spread across multiple regions automatically.

Storj's network has three main roles. Satellites store per-object metadata, cache node addresses, maintain node reputation and handle billing and audits. Storage nodes store encrypted, erasure-coded data and get paid for storage and bandwidth. Uplinks are the applications that encrypt and erasure-encode data on behalf of users.

With erasure coding, data is broken into pieces that are each expanded with redundant data and stored across many locations. Objects larger than 64 MB are stored as multiple 64 MB segments, and when too many nodes become unavailable a satellite repairs the file by recreating the missing pieces on healthy nodes.

What Is Storj Used For?

The code is open source, which Storj says avoids vendor lock-in, and the service advertises 99.95% availability. That figure is Storj's own claim.

Access grants are encoded strings that combine an API key, an encryption store and the satellite address, so you can share access without handing over everything. Caveats can restrict an API key to certain operations, buckets, paths or time windows.

Storage node operators contribute unused hard drive capacity and are paid in STORJ tokens based on their contribution. Storj also withholds a held amount from operator payouts. Setup options include a CLI, a Windows GUI and NAS apps for TrueNAS and QNAP.

What Are The Risks Of Buying Storj?

The documentation page I checked does not cover the STORJ token, its utility or its network, so confirm those with Storj's payment documentation before you buy. The storage service and the token are separate things, and you can value one without the other.

How Does Storj Pay Its Node Operators?

Operators who contribute unused hard drive capacity are paid in STORJ tokens, in proportion to what they contribute, and a held amount is withheld from payouts. If you ever want to earn STORJ instead of buying it, running a node is the documented route, with CLI, Windows GUI and NAS options, but it needs hardware that meets the project's prerequisites and carries its own tax treatment.

Is Storj A Storage Service Or A Token?

Both. The service is S3-compatible object storage that customers pay for, and the STORJ token is the payment rail to the operators who run the network. You can think the service is good and still decide the token is not for you, or the other way round. Read the payment documentation to see how the two connect before you decide how much STORJ to hold.

How Much Does It Cost To Buy $500 Of Storj In Canada?

What A $500 STORJ Buy Costs, Platform By Platform
PlatformPublished Cost
KrakenKraken Pro charges 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker (the taker fee is $4.00 on $500), and Instant Buy is 1% ($5.00 on $500).
NewtonThere is no trading fee; the cost is a spread that starts at 1.00% on BTC and differs by coin, so read the quote on the order screen.
MEXCMaker is 0% and taker 0.05% ($0.25 on $500) at the base tier.
Crypto.comCrypto.com does not publish a Canada fee schedule that I could verify, so the in-app quote is the only reliable number.

The spread is the gap between the price you see and the price you get, and it never appears as a line item. Compare the final quote on the order screen, not the headline fee. Offshore platforms show lower headline fees, but they cannot take Canadian dollars and their terms restrict Canadians.

How Do You Buy Storj In Canada Step By Step?

  1. Sign up to Kraken. Use the Kraken link. Kraken is a CSA Restricted Dealer.
  2. Verify your identity. Upload a government-issued ID and a selfie. Verification can take up to 24 hours.
  3. Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free.
  4. Buy STORJ. Instant Buy is simple but costs 1%. Kraken Pro charges 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so use Pro and a limit order if you want to pay less.
  5. Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Send a small test amount first.

How Do You Move Storj From An Exchange To A Wallet?

  1. Pick a wallet that supports STORJ. Check the wallet vendor's own supported-asset page, not a forum post.
  2. Match the network. The same ticker can exist on more than one network, and the deposit address must be on the network you withdraw from. A mismatch can mean lost funds.
  3. Check for a memo or tag. Some networks need one when you deposit to an exchange. Wallets you control usually do not, but read the withdrawal screen.
  4. Copy the address from the wallet, never from a message. Paste it, then compare the first and last characters.
  5. Send a small test amount. Once it arrives, send the rest.
  6. Back up the seed phrase offline. Anyone who has it controls the coins, and nobody can reset it for you.

How Do You Store Storj?

For short-term trading, keeping STORJ on Kraken or Newton is fine if the platform is registered and has decent security. For long-term holding, transfer it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked, which is why holdings you do not plan to trade belong in your own wallet. My best wallets for Canadians guide has the picks. A hardware wallet such as Ledger is the safest route, and a software wallet works too, as long as you confirm it supports STORJ and the right network before you send anything. Write the seed phrase down and keep it offline, never on your phone.

How Do You Sell Storj In Canada?

Ready to cash out? Move your STORJ back to your exchange wallet first. On Kraken, sell STORJ for CAD and withdraw by Interac e-Transfer, which costs CAD 10 per withdrawal. Then withdraw via e-Transfer or wire. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps, and every swap can be a taxable event.

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Storj In Canada?

Buying STORJ with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying Storj In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Robinhood closed its WonderFi acquisition, and Coinsquare customers are being moved in phases to the Robinhood app, so Coinsquare and Bitbuy are no longer places to open a new account.
  • Newton was admitted to CIRO membership as an investment dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use a CSA-registered exchange and pay by Interac e-Transfer where you can. For STORJ the first registered option on my scorecard is Kraken.

How Much Does It Cost To Buy Storj In Canada?

The price moves constantly, so any number printed here would be stale. Check the live CAD quote on the exchange you plan to use. Fees run from a flat 0.20% on NDAX to up to 1.875% on a simple Coinbase buy, plus the spread, so compare the final quote on the order screen.

Is Storj A Good Investment For Canadians?

STORJ's decentralized storage is a real use case, but crypto is volatile. Any crypto investment is risky, so only put in what you are okay losing and do your own research.

How Do You Store Storj?

Short term, a registered exchange is fine. For long-term holding, move it to your own wallet, check the wallet supports STORJ and its network, and keep the seed phrase offline.

Do You Pay Tax On Storj In Canada?

Buying with Canadian dollars is not a taxable event. Selling, swapping or spending can be, as business income or a capital gain. Keep the date and CAD value of every transaction.

Can You Earn STORJ Instead Of Buying It?

Yes, by running a storage node. Operators contribute unused hard drive capacity and are paid in STORJ tokens based on their contribution, with a held amount withheld from payouts. Setup options include a CLI, a Windows GUI and NAS apps for TrueNAS and QNAP. Income from this has tax consequences, so keep records.

What Is Storj Actually Used For?

Storj is S3-compatible, globally distributed cloud object storage that runs on thousands of storage nodes using spare capacity. Data is encrypted by default and split with erasure coding, so no single node holds a complete file.

Is Storj Open Source?

Yes. Storj says all of its code is open source, which it presents as a way to avoid vendor lock-in.

How Does Storj Protect Data If Nodes Go Offline?

Data is erasure coded, meaning each file is broken into pieces expanded with redundant data and spread across many nodes. Objects larger than 64 MB are stored as multiple 64 MB segments. When too many nodes become unavailable, a satellite recreates the missing pieces through file repair and stores them on healthy nodes, so a single node failing does not lose your file.
