To buy Kaspa (KAS) in Canada, open an account on a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars and place the order. On my scorecard that means Kraken (9.2).
MEXC also lists it, but it is offshore, so read the labels before you consider it.
- Kraken, 9.2: free Interac deposits and cheaper trading on Kraken Pro
I have been trading crypto in Canada since 2016 and I have tested 61 exchanges to find the best ways for Canadians to buy coins like this one, and I share what I find on my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada, and in the r/OCryptoCanada community. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned trader, this guide will help you make a smart, informed decision.

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.
Why Buy Kaspa (KAS)?
Kaspa (KAS) isn’t your run-of-the-mill crypto, it’s the heartbeat of a high-speed, scalable layer-1 blockchain, designed for lightning-fast transactions with low fees. Canadians might be drawn to its cutting-edge tech and mining rewards, whether you’re chilling in Vancouver or out on the Prairies.
A quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in. I am not quoting a live KAS price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and judge any coin by what it does rather than by a chart. The facts below come from the project's own site, docs or whitepaper, or from the wallet vendor's own support pages.
What Is Kaspa, And How Does A BlockDAG Work?
Kaspa describes itself as a live proof-of-work blockDAG running at 10 blocks per second. Instead of discarding parallel blocks as a traditional chain does, Kaspa orders them. Its consensus is GHOSTDAG, which the project traces through the research lineage of the GHOST protocol, SPECTRE and PHANTOM, with origins in research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and later Harvard. Kaspa says its design lets transactions that take about an hour to confirm safely in Bitcoin confirm in seconds.
The node software, kaspad, is based on the PHANTOM protocol, a generalization of Nakamoto consensus, and is released under the ISC license. The original Go implementation is deprecated in favour of a Rust rewrite, rusty-kaspa, which is now the recommended node software, and Kaspa says its development was backed by a 100M KAS community grant.
Was Kaspa Fair Launched?
Kaspa's mainnet launched in November 2021 as a fair-launched proof-of-work network, with no premine, insider allocation or pre-sales, and the project says every coin in circulation has been mined in the open from genesis onward. The genesis block embeds Bitcoin block hashes as timestamps, which the project cites as evidence that no premining happened before the official launch. Issuance follows a fixed, predetermined decreasing schedule: the consensus code derives block rewards from a month-indexed subsidy table of 426 monthly entries, about 35 years. I did not find an official page stating a maximum supply, so I am not quoting one. One KAS equals 100,000,000 sompi, the smallest unit.
What Upgrades Has Kaspa Shipped Or Announced?
The Crescendo hardfork took place on May 5, 2025 at roughly 15:00 UTC and moved the network from 1 block per second to 10. KIP-14 cut the target block time from 1000 ms to 100 ms, recalibrated the GHOSTDAG K parameter to 124, and kept the emission schedule intact by converting the monthly reward table into a per-second reward. Kaspa's official overview says the Toccata upgrade (June 2026) brought layer-1 programmability through covenants and native zero-knowledge proof verification, with Groth16 and RISC Zero STARK support, and names Silverscript as a covenant compiler for smart contracts. It also lists DAGKnight as upcoming and a planned 2027 upgrade targeting 100 blocks per second. Roadmap items are plans, not results.
Where Can You Buy Kaspa (KAS) In Canada?
These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include KAS, in my fixed ranking order. Wealthsimple is left out because it publishes no coin list I can check, and I will not claim it carries KAS. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.
| Exchange | Canadian Status | Published Fee | CAD Funding | My Rank | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | CSA-registered (Restricted Dealer) | Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1% | Free Interac e-Transfer deposits | #3 | Buy KAS |
| MEXC | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada | 0% maker / 0.05% taker | No CAD funding verified | #9 | Buy KAS |
Asset lists differ by region and change over time, so confirm that KAS shows up in the app before you fund an account.
Buy Kaspa (KAS) On Kraken
Kraken is also a CSA Restricted Dealer, and Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. Instant Buy costs 1%, while Kraken Pro starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so anyone buying more than a token amount should switch to Pro. Read my Kraken review.
Buy Kaspa (KAS) On MEXC
Offshore Not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. It attracts people hunting small-cap altcoins, but I do not recommend it for Canadians.
MEXC lists KAS, with spot fees of 0% maker and 0.05% taker and no verified CAD funding. Its User Agreement, last updated May 29, 2025, names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction. Read my MEXC review.
How Do You Buy Kaspa (KAS) In Canada Step By Step?
- Sign up to Kraken. I use Kraken here because it is the first CSA-registered platform in the table above that lists KAS. Download the app or use the website.
- Verify your identity. Upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours, so do it before you plan to buy.
- Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free on Kraken, and a wire or debit card also works. Cards cost more.
- Find KAS. Search for the name and the ticker and check that both match. Some tickers are shared by unrelated coins, so confirm you picked Kaspa.
- Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Use Kraken Pro rather than Instant Buy if you can, because 0.40% to 0.80% beats 1%.
- Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Check that the wallet supports KAS and its network, and send a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.
Which Wallets Support Kaspa (KAS), And How Do You Move It There?
Kaspa's official wallet page groups wallets into mobile (Android and iOS), desktop (Linux, macOS, Windows) and hardware wallets, and calls hardware wallets among the most secure options for long-term holdings. Ledger's support site lists a Kaspa app, installed from the app catalog in Ledger Live and developed and supported by the Kaspa community. You use it through the KasVault web app, and Ledger warns to always include the 'kaspa:' prefix on Kaspa addresses because omitting it may lose funds.
Before moving significant KAS to self-custody, Kaspa advises backing up your recovery phrase, sending a small test transaction first and checking the first and last characters of the destination address. It notes exchange processing typically takes 30 to 60 minutes even though on-chain transfers are fast. Kaspa's site also says KAS is listed on 60 or more exchanges and advises choosing one that operates in your region.
How Risky Is Kaspa (KAS)?
Any coin outside the top few can fall hard and trade thinly, and KAS is no exception. Thin trading means a wider gap between the buy and sell price, and that gap is a real cost on a small order. Buy only what you can lose, and decide in advance whether this is a trade or a long-term hold. I do not make price predictions, and nobody else can either.
How Do You Store Kaspa (KAS)?
Keeping your KAS safe is something you must do if you do not want to risk it being stolen. For safekeeping, use a private crypto wallet. Choose one of the crypto wallets I reviewed, and then send your KAS from the exchange you used to buy it to your wallet. If you buy any valuable cryptocurrency, always move it to a private wallet to keep it secure. Check that the wallet supports the coin and its network first, because sending to an unsupported address can lose the funds for good. Write your recovery phrase on paper, never store it in a photo or a cloud note, and never share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.
How Do You Sell Kaspa (KAS) In Canada?
To sell, go to the exchange where you bought it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then click sell. You can swap KAS for another cryptocurrency, or sell it for Canadian dollars if the exchange offers that, and then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees and limits differ by platform. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.
Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Kaspa (KAS) In Canada?
Buying KAS with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.
What Changed For Buying Kaspa (KAS) In Canada In October 2026?
- Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
- Robinhood closed its WonderFi acquisition, and Coinsquare customers are being moved in phases to the Robinhood app, so I no longer point new buyers to Coinsquare or Bitbuy.
- MEXC updated its User Agreement, and Canada is named as a prohibited jurisdiction.
