Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

To buy Flare (FLR) in Canada, open an account on a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, add Canadian dollars and place a buy order. Coinbase (9.8), Kraken (9.2) and Crypto.com carry FLR and are registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators.

MEXC also lists it but is offshore, so read the labels in the table first.

  1. Coinbase, 9.8: first-time buyers who want a regulated, simple app
  2. Kraken, 9.2: beginners who want to learn, then cheaper trading on kraken pro
  3. Crypto.com: a broad app with a crypto card

I have been trading crypto in Canada since 2016 and have tested 61 exchanges to find the best ways for Canadians to buy FLR. I share what I find on my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada, and on r/OCryptoCanada. Whether you are new or experienced, this page is meant to help you make an informed choice.

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

What Is Flare (FLR)?

Flare (FLR) isn’t your average crypto, it’s the spark behind the Flare Network, linking blockchains for seamless DeFi and smart contract solutions. Canadians might be hooked by its cross-chain magic and staking perks, whether you’re chilling in Vancouver or out on the Prairies. Heads-up though: altcoins like FLR can swing, so dive into market trends before leaping in!

I am not quoting a live FLR price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and compare it with the final quote that includes the platform's fee or spread.

Where Can You Buy Flare (FLR) In Canada?

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include FLR, in my fixed order. I checked each against the exchange's own listing data in October 2026. Platforms that do not appear here did not show FLR on their asset list, and I only recommend exchanges that do.

Which Registered Exchanges Carry Flare (FLR)?

Coinbase For Flare (FLR)

9.8/10

CSA-registered Coinbase is a CSA Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories and ranks first on my scorecard at 9.8. Interac e-Transfer and bank EFT are free for adding cash. A simple buy carries a spread plus a Coinbase fee of up to 1.875% depending on payment method, which is about $9.38 on a $500 buy. Custodial Canadian dollar balances are not covered by CIPF or CDIC.

Kraken For Flare (FLR)

9.2/10

CSA-registered Kraken is a CSA Restricted Dealer and ranks third at 9.2. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. On Kraken Pro the entry tier is 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so a $500 taker buy costs $4.00 and a maker order costs $2.00. Instant Buy is 1%, or $5.00 plus spread. An Interac withdrawal costs CAD 10.

Crypto.com For Flare (FLR)

CSA-registered Crypto.com is a CSA Restricted Dealer through its Canadian entity and I have not scored it. Bank transfer and card deposits are zero-fee, but the Canadian fee schedule is not published, so I cannot give you a cost on a $500 buy. Check the quote in the app before you confirm.

What About The Offshore Exchanges?

Offshore MEXC lists FLR but is not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and its terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I could not verify Canadian dollar funding on it, so you would need to bring crypto from somewhere else. It suits experienced traders who accept that risk; beginners should stay on a registered platform.

How Do You Buy Flare (FLR) In Canada Step By Step?

These steps use Coinbase, the first CSA-registered exchange in the table.

  1. Sign up at Coinbase. Use the link in the table, then upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours.
  2. Deposit Canadian dollars. On Coinbase, Interac e-Transfer or bank EFT is free to add cash. A bank deposit usually avoids the extra cost of a card.
  3. Search for FLR. Open the trade or buy screen and look for FLR. Check the ticker carefully, because tokens with similar names exist.
  4. Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Read the fee preview before you confirm.
  5. Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.

Cards are the quickest way to fund, but they usually cost more than a bank deposit, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

What Is Flare (FLR) Used For?

Flare describes itself as a network that combines a trust-minimised bridging system (FAssets), decentralised price feeds (the Flare Time Series Oracle, FTSO) and decentralised verification of external events and web data (the Flare Data Connector, FDC). FLR's documented uses are securing the network by staking to validators through proof of stake, and delegating to FTSO data providers to earn incentives.

Flare's own news page says rewards from FTSO delegation, FLR staking (including sFLR) and participation as an FAssets agent continue under the protocol and are unaffected by the end of FlareDrops, an earlier distribution programme.

How Does Flare (FLR) Work?

Delegation is the non-custodial assignment of your FLR to data providers. The docs say you can undelegate at any time and are not locked out of using the tokens for other purposes. Delegators receive a share of the rewards earned by their data provider, which rise with the accuracy of the provider's submissions and the amount delegated. Each FTSO feed is backed by around 100 independent data providers, chosen by users through delegated stake.

To take part you usually wrap FLR into WFLR through the Flare Portal and delegate it. Rewards from FTSO delegation are described as arriving every 3.5 days. A Flare entity consists of a validator node and a data provider system made of the FTSO and FDC sub-protocols.

What Are The Risks Of Holding Flare (FLR)?

  • Data provider quality: delegation rewards depend on how accurate your chosen provider is, so a poor choice earns less.
  • Wrapping step: delegating requires wrapping FLR into WFLR, which adds a contract interaction.
  • Programme changes: FlareDrops have ended, and Flare says other reward streams continue, but reward programmes can change.
  • Fake sites: Flare publishes a guide to securing your Flare experience, and phishing sites copy the Portal. Use only links from flare.network.
  • Market risk: there is no promise of returns.

Which Wallets Support Flare (FLR)?

Flare's wallets page says the network is supported by self-custodial wallets including Bifrost Wallet, SolidiFi, Brave, D'CENT, Enkrypt, Ledger, MetaMask, SafePal and Trezor. In-app wrap, stake, delegate and claim features are listed for Bifrost Wallet and Ledger, while MetaMask, Rabby and SafePal use the Flare Portal for those actions. Flare also publishes a guide to using a Ledger device with Flare through MetaMask.

How Do You Move Flare (FLR) From An Exchange To A Wallet?

  1. Pick a wallet from Flare's official list and write down the recovery phrase offline.
  2. Copy your address for the Flare network and check it against what the exchange expects.
  3. On the exchange, withdraw FLR and choose the Flare network.
  4. Send a small test amount first.
  5. If you want to delegate, connect to the Flare Portal from the link on flare.network, wrap your FLR into WFLR and choose a data provider.

What Should You Check Before Buying Flare (FLR)?

  • The ticker and network. Many tokens share names or tickers with copies, and the same coin can exist on more than one network. Confirm both before you pay.
  • The listing itself. Open the asset page on the exchange and confirm that FLR is tradable against Canadian dollars, or that you will need to buy another coin first and swap.
  • The all-in price. Compare the quote on the order screen with the exchange's fee schedule. A spread is part of the cost, even when the fee line says zero.
  • Withdrawal rules. Some platforms set minimums, fees or hold periods on withdrawals to your own wallet, so read them before you deposit a large amount.
  • Your records. Save the date, amount and CAD value of every purchase. You will need them at tax time.

How Do You Store Flare (FLR)?

For short-term trading, leaving FLR on a registered exchange is fine. For long-term holding, move it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked, and I have seen it go south. A hardware wallet like Ledger, or a software wallet that supports FLR, keeps it safer. Check the wallet's asset list and network before you send anything, and stash that seed phrase somewhere secure (not your phone!).

How Do You Sell Flare (FLR) In Canada?

To sell, go to the exchange where you hold it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then place a sell order. You can swap FLR for another cryptocurrency or sell it for Canadian dollars if the platform offers that, then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees differ by platform (Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal). My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Is Flare (FLR) A Good Investment For Canadians?

FLR’s DeFi and cross-chain potential is exciting, but markets dip and dive, only stake what you can spare. Nobody can tell you where the price goes next, and I do not make predictions. If you buy, size the position so a drop does not hurt, and remember that smaller tokens can be thin to trade, which widens the spread when you sell.

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Flare (FLR) In Canada?

Buying FLR with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying Flare (FLR) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Coinbase launched regulated crypto derivatives for eligible Canadian investors. It is not open to ordinary retail accounts.
  • The CSA issued an amended decision for Coinbase Canada Inc.
