To buy dYdX (DYDX) in Canada, open an account on a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, add Canadian dollars and place a buy order. Kraken (9.2) and Crypto.com carry DYDX and are registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators.
MEXC, Bitunix also list it but are offshore, so read the labels in the table first.
- Kraken, 9.2: beginners who want to learn, then cheaper trading on kraken pro
- Crypto.com: a broad app with a crypto card

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.
What Is DYDX?
dYdX (DYDX) isn’t just another cryptocurrency, it’s the governance token for a slick DeFi platform, powering decentralized trading with perpetual contracts. Canadians might be drawn to its advanced trading tools and staking rewards, whether you’re in Vancouver or the Prairies. But a quick heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in!
I am not quoting a live DYDX price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and compare it with the final quote that includes the platform's fee or spread.
Where Can You Buy DYDX In Canada?
These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include DYDX, in my fixed order. I checked each against the exchange's own listing data in October 2026. Platforms that do not appear here did not show DYDX on their asset list, and I only recommend exchanges that do.
| Exchange | Canadian Status | Published Fee | CAD Funding | My Rank | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | CSA-registered (Restricted Dealer) | Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker; Instant Buy 1% | Free Interac e-Transfer deposits | #3 | Buy DYDX |
| MEXC | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada | 0% maker / 0.05% taker | No CAD funding verified | #9 | Buy DYDX |
| Bitunix | Offshore, terms prohibit Canada | See Bitunix fee page | No CAD funding | Not ranked | Buy DYDX |
| Crypto.com | CSA-registered (Restricted Dealer) | Not published for Canada | Not verified | Not ranked | Buy DYDX |
Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.
Which Registered Exchanges Carry DYDX?
Kraken For DYDX
9.2/10CSA-registered Kraken is a CSA Restricted Dealer and ranks third at 9.2. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. On Kraken Pro the entry tier is 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so a $500 taker buy costs $4.00 and a maker order costs $2.00. Instant Buy is 1%, or $5.00 plus spread. An Interac withdrawal costs CAD 10.
Crypto.com For DYDX
CSA-registered Crypto.com is a CSA Restricted Dealer through its Canadian entity and I have not scored it. Bank transfer and card deposits are zero-fee, but the Canadian fee schedule is not published, so I cannot give you a cost on a $500 buy. Check the quote in the app before you confirm.
What About The Offshore Exchanges?
Offshore MEXC, Bitunix list DYDX but are not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and their terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I could not verify Canadian dollar funding on any of them, so you would need to bring crypto from somewhere else. They suit experienced traders who accept that risk; beginners should stay on a registered platform.
How Do You Buy DYDX In Canada Step By Step?
These steps use Kraken, the first CSA-registered exchange in the table.
- Sign up at Kraken. Use the link in the table, then upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours.
- Deposit Canadian dollars. On Kraken, Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. A bank deposit usually avoids the extra cost of a card.
- Search for DYDX. Open the trade or buy screen and look for DYDX. Check the ticker carefully, because tokens with similar names exist.
- Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Read the fee preview before you confirm.
- Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.
Cards are the quickest way to fund, but they usually cost more than a bank deposit, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.
What Is DYDX Used For?
dYdX Chain is described in its documentation as open-source, standalone blockchain software built by dYdX Trading, Inc., based on the Cosmos SDK and using the Tendermint proof-of-stake consensus protocol. It enables decentralised trading of cryptocurrency perpetual contracts. DYDX is the layer 1 token of that chain: it is used for staking to validators and for ongoing governance of the chain.
Staking is optional, but the governance rights depend on it. dYdX says you must stake your DYDX to a validator to activate the associated governance rights and take part in governance. Staking rewards are described as coming from trading fees and gas fees collected by the protocol, and they are paid predominantly in USDC.
How Does DYDX Work?
In dYdX's design, each validator runs an in-memory order book that is never committed to consensus, so it lives off chain. Orders and cancellations travel through the network like ordinary transactions. The network matches orders in real time, and the resulting trades are committed on chain in each block. Validators store orders, pass transactions to each other and produce blocks through the consensus process.
Governance parameters in the docs include a minimum deposit of 10,000 governance tokens for a proposal, a 4-day voting period, a 33.4% quorum, a 50% threshold and a 33.4% veto level. Check the current documentation before you rely on these figures, because governance can change them.
What Are The Risks Of Holding DYDX?
- Validator risk: staking means delegating to a validator, and validators can misbehave or go offline. Spread your stake and pick carefully.
- Governance changes: parameters, fees and reward rules are set by governance votes.
- Trading risk if you use the protocol: perpetual contracts use leverage, which can wipe out a position quickly. Holding DYDX does not require trading, but many holders use the exchange as well.
- Market risk: the documentation makes no promise of returns.
What Do Fees And Staking Discounts Look Like?
dYdX charges trading fees on a seven-tier structure that depends on your 30-day trailing volume, with separate maker and taker rates. At the first tier, for volume under $1 million, the documentation lists a taker fee of 5.0 basis points and a maker fee of 1.0 basis point, and the rates fall as volume rises, with maker fees turning into rebates at the highest tiers. The community also voted to introduce staking-based fee discounts: traders who stake DYDX can get discounts from 5% to 50%, depending on fee tier and the amount staked. The discounts apply only to net positive trading fees, and only bonded tokens count.
Staking rewards are calculated as trading fees plus gas fees, minus the community tax and the validator commission. They are distributed every block but have to be claimed manually. Trading rewards, separate from staking, are paid in DYDX to traders for successful trades. As the docs describe it, taker fee revenue is shared with the MegaVault, the Treasury subDAO and market mappers. Fee tables change, so read the current page before you trade.

Which Wallets Support DYDX?
dYdX's help centre says the dYdX Chain supports MetaMask, Phantom, Keplr, WalletConnect, Coinbase Wallet and Privy for easy onboarding, and also lists Trust Wallet, TokenPocket, imToken and other WalletConnect wallets. Keplr is a Cosmos-native wallet and connects directly to the chain. MetaMask is an EVM wallet that connects through the app. The help page notes that support for Phantom (EVM) wallets has been sunset. Because wallet support changes, confirm the current list on dYdX's help centre before you pick one.
How Do You Move DYDX From An Exchange To A Wallet?
- Choose a wallet from the list above and write down your recovery phrase offline.
- Check which network your exchange offers for DYDX. The token exists on the dYdX Chain and in other forms on other networks, so make sure the address you copy matches the network you select.
- Copy the receiving address from your wallet and paste it into the exchange withdrawal form.
- Send a small test amount first and wait for it to arrive.
- Send the rest. If you plan to stake, delegate to a validator through a compatible wallet or the dYdX app.
What Should You Check Before Buying DYDX?
- The ticker and network. Many tokens share names or tickers with copies, and the same coin can exist on more than one network. Confirm both before you pay.
- The listing itself. Open the asset page on the exchange and confirm that DYDX is tradable against Canadian dollars, or that you will need to buy another coin first and swap.
- The all-in price. Compare the quote on the order screen with the exchange's fee schedule. A spread is part of the cost, even when the fee line says zero.
- Withdrawal rules. Some platforms set minimums, fees or hold periods on withdrawals to your own wallet, so read them before you deposit a large amount.
- Your records. Save the date, amount and CAD value of every purchase. You will need them at tax time.
How Do You Store DYDX?
For short-term trading, leaving DYDX on a registered exchange is fine. For long-term holding, move it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked, and I have seen it go south. A hardware wallet like Ledger, or a software wallet that supports DYDX, keeps it safer. Check the wallet's asset list and network before you send anything, and stash that seed phrase somewhere secure (not your phone!).
How Do You Sell DYDX In Canada?
To sell, go to the exchange where you hold it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then place a sell order. You can swap DYDX for another cryptocurrency or sell it for Canadian dollars if the platform offers that, then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees differ by platform (Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal). My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.
Is DYDX A Good Investment For Canadians?
DYDX’s DeFi trading has potential, but crypto’s volatile, only risk what you’re okay losing. Nobody can tell you where the price goes next, and I do not make predictions. If you buy, size the position so a drop does not hurt, and remember that smaller tokens can be thin to trade, which widens the spread when you sell.
Do You Pay Tax When You Buy DYDX In Canada?
Buying DYDX with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.
What Changed For Buying DYDX In Canada In October 2026?
- Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
- MEXC updated its user agreement and now names Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.
- The CSA issued a Restricted Dealer decision for Foris DAX CAN ULC, the Canadian entity behind Crypto.com.
