Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

To buy Decentraland (MANA) in Canada, open an account on a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, add Canadian dollars and place a buy order. Coinbase (9.8), Kraken (9.2) and Newton (7.9) carry MANA and are registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators.

MEXC, Bitunix also list it but are offshore, so read the labels in the table first.

  1. Coinbase, 9.8: first-time buyers who want a regulated, simple app
  2. Kraken, 9.2: beginners who want to learn, then cheaper trading on kraken pro
  3. Newton, 7.9: beginners who want a canadian-regulated dealer with free cad funding
  4. NDAX, 7.8: low flat fees and cheap cash-outs to your bank
  5. Crypto.com: a broad app with a crypto card

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

What Is Decentraland (MANA)?

Decentraland (MANA) isn’t just another cryptocurrency, it’s the fuel for a virtual world where you can buy land, build, and trade in a decentralized metaverse. Canadians might be hooked by its creative potential and virtual economy, whether you’re in Vancouver or the Maritimes. But a heads-up: crypto investments are risky, so always weigh the ups and downs before jumping in!

I am not quoting a live MANA price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price, and compare it with the final quote that includes the platform's fee or spread.

Where Can You Buy Decentraland (MANA) In Canada?

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include MANA, in my fixed order. I checked each against the exchange's own listing data in October 2026. Platforms that do not appear here did not show MANA on their asset list, and I only recommend exchanges that do.

Which Registered Exchanges Carry Decentraland (MANA)?

Coinbase For Decentraland (MANA)

9.8/10

CSA-registered Coinbase is a CSA Restricted Dealer in all provinces and territories and ranks first on my scorecard at 9.8. Interac e-Transfer and bank EFT are free for adding cash. A simple buy carries a spread plus a Coinbase fee of up to 1.875% depending on payment method, which is about $9.38 on a $500 buy. Custodial Canadian dollar balances are not covered by CIPF or CDIC.

Kraken For Decentraland (MANA)

9.2/10

CSA-registered Kraken is a CSA Restricted Dealer and ranks third at 9.2. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free. On Kraken Pro the entry tier is 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker, so a $500 taker buy costs $4.00 and a maker order costs $2.00. Instant Buy is 1%, or $5.00 plus spread. An Interac withdrawal costs CAD 10.

Newton For Decentraland (MANA)

7.9/10

CSA-registered Newton is a CIRO investment dealer and ranks sixth at 7.9. Interac, EFT and wire deposits are free. There is no trading fee, because the platform earns through a spread. On its Tier 2 coins that spread is 1.25% to 1.45%, which is $6.25 to $7.25 on a $500 buy. I could not confirm which tier each coin sits in, so read the quote before you confirm.

NDAX For Decentraland (MANA)

7.8/10

CSA-registered NDAX is a CIRO investment dealer and ranks seventh at 7.8. Interac e-Transfer and wire deposits are free. The flat fee is 0.20%, which is $1.00 on a $500 buy, plus a spread that NDAX does not publish. An Interac withdrawal costs CAD 1.50, which makes cashing out cheap.

Crypto.com For Decentraland (MANA)

CSA-registered Crypto.com is a CSA Restricted Dealer through its Canadian entity and I have not scored it. Bank transfer and card deposits are zero-fee, but the Canadian fee schedule is not published, so I cannot give you a cost on a $500 buy. Check the quote in the app before you confirm.

What About The Offshore Exchanges?

Offshore MEXC, Bitunix list MANA but are not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and their terms of service restrict Canadian residents. No Canadian investor protection applies. I could not verify Canadian dollar funding on any of them, so you would need to bring crypto from somewhere else. They suit experienced traders who accept that risk; beginners should stay on a registered platform.

How Do You Buy Decentraland (MANA) In Canada Step By Step?

These steps use Coinbase, the first CSA-registered exchange in the table.

  1. Sign up at Coinbase. Use the link in the table, then upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours.
  2. Deposit Canadian dollars. On Coinbase, Interac e-Transfer or bank EFT is free to add cash. A bank deposit usually avoids the extra cost of a card.
  3. Search for MANA. Open the trade or buy screen and look for MANA. Check the ticker carefully, because tokens with similar names exist.
  4. Place the order. Use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price. Read the fee preview before you confirm.
  5. Move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.

Cards are the quickest way to fund, but they usually cost more than a bank deposit, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

What Is Decentraland (MANA) Used For?

Decentraland is a virtual world, and MANA is its fungible token. Decentraland's documentation says MANA is built on the ERC-20 standard. Alongside MANA there are two kinds of non-fungible asset: LAND, which establishes ownership on the Ethereum network of parcels that map one to one with the Decentraland map, and NAMES, which are tokenized using an ENS subdomain ending in .dcl.eth and are ERC-721 tokens on Ethereum mainnet.

MANA is also a governance token. The Decentraland DAO is described as the decision-making tool for MANA, NAMES and LAND holders. Through votes in the DAO, the community can issue grants and change the lists of banned names, points of interest and catalyst nodes.

How Does Decentraland (MANA) Work?

Voting power in the DAO is weighted by the balance of MANA, NAMES and LAND tied to the account you log in with. The documentation gives the weights: 1 MANA contributes 1 voting power, 1 NAME contributes 100 and 1 LAND parcel contributes 2,000.

The DAO uses a combination of free, off-chain voting for the community and a multi-signature wallet controlled by a "DAO Committee" to enact those off-chain decisions on the Ethereum blockchain. Some Decentraland smart contracts are also deployed on Polygon and support meta-transactions using EIP-712 to reduce operational costs. That is why you may see MANA on more than one network, and why choosing the right network for a transfer matters.

What Are The Risks Of Holding Decentraland (MANA)?

  • Committee control: the DAO's off-chain votes are carried out by a multi-signature wallet run by a DAO Committee, so execution relies on those signers.
  • Two networks: because contracts exist on both Ethereum and Polygon, a withdrawal to the wrong network can leave tokens somewhere your wallet is not looking.
  • Use depends on adoption: the token's role is tied to the virtual world, its marketplace and its community.
  • Market risk: the documentation promises no returns, and MANA can lose value.

How Does A DAO Proposal Move Forward?

The DAO allows two general types of proposal: proposals with direct binding actions, which change Decentraland's smart contracts, fund community projects through grants or add catalyst nodes to the network, and governance proposals. A governance proposal goes through three stages according to the documentation.

  • Pre-proposal poll: introduces an issue and gauges sentiment. It needs 100 voting power to submit, 500,000 to pass, and runs for 5 days.
  • Draft proposal: presents a structured policy for discussion. It needs 1,000 voting power (or delegated) to submit, 1 million to pass, and runs for a week.
  • Governance proposal: formalises the passed draft into a binding outcome. It needs 2,500 voting power (or delegated) to submit, 6 million to pass, and runs for 2 weeks.

Anyone who meets the submission threshold can move a passed proposal to the next stage, not only its author. To vote, you log in at governance.decentraland.org with a wallet that holds MANA, NAMES or LAND. Because 1 MANA is 1 voting power, a small holder has a voice mostly through the first stages.

What Does The DAO Actually Control?

The documentation lists concrete actions the DAO can take through binding votes that change Decentraland's smart contracts on Ethereum. It can fund a community project by sending part of its resources to a grant vesting contract, using MANA the DAO holds to pay for features or content that help the platform grow, and individuals or teams can request grant funding. It can add a catalyst node, one of the community-run servers that host the content and peer-to-peer connections that keep the virtual world running, and only nodes approved by the DAO are used in the network. It can add or remove points of interest, the highlighted locations shown to users, and it can ban a name so avatars cannot be given offensive or harmful names.

Which Wallets Support Decentraland (MANA)?

Decentraland's documentation says you can create and sign into your account by connecting a wallet such as MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet, or any other wallet reachable through WalletConnect. If you want to use a Ledger hardware wallet in the Marketplace, the documentation says you connect it through MetaMask. Because MANA is an ERC-20 token, Ledger's support pages say ERC-20 tokens are managed with the Ethereum app on the device, and you need ETH in the account to pay network fees.

How Do You Move Decentraland (MANA) From An Exchange To A Wallet?

  1. Install MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or another wallet from the list above, and write down the recovery phrase offline.
  2. Copy your wallet address from the receive screen.
  3. On the exchange, withdraw MANA and select the network. Ethereum is the home network for MANA, and Polygon is the other network Decentraland uses, so check which one your wallet is set to before you confirm.
  4. Keep some ETH (or MATIC/POL on Polygon, as the network requires) in the wallet to pay fees later.
  5. Send a small test amount first, wait for it to appear, then send the rest.
  6. To vote in the DAO, log in to Decentraland with the same wallet that holds your MANA.

What Should You Check Before Buying Decentraland (MANA)?

  • The ticker and network. Many tokens share names or tickers with copies, and the same coin can exist on more than one network. Confirm both before you pay.
  • The listing itself. Open the asset page on the exchange and confirm that MANA is tradable against Canadian dollars, or that you will need to buy another coin first and swap.
  • The all-in price. Compare the quote on the order screen with the exchange's fee schedule. A spread is part of the cost, even when the fee line says zero.
  • Withdrawal rules. Some platforms set minimums, fees or hold periods on withdrawals to your own wallet, so read them before you deposit a large amount.
  • Your records. Save the date, amount and CAD value of every purchase. You will need them at tax time.

How Do You Store Decentraland (MANA)?

For short-term trading, leaving MANA on a registered exchange is fine. For long-term holding, move it to a secure crypto wallet. Exchanges can get hacked, and I have seen it go south. A hardware wallet like Ledger, or a software wallet that supports MANA, keeps it safer. Check the wallet's asset list and network before you send anything, and stash that seed phrase somewhere secure (not your phone!).

How Do You Sell Decentraland (MANA) In Canada?

To sell, go to the exchange where you hold it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then place a sell order. You can swap MANA for another cryptocurrency or sell it for Canadian dollars if the platform offers that, then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees differ by platform (Kraken charges CAD 10 for an Interac withdrawal, NDAX charges CAD 1.50). My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Is Decentraland (MANA) A Good Investment For Canadians?

MANA’s metaverse has creative potential, but crypto’s volatile, only risk what you’re okay losing. Nobody can tell you where the price goes next, and I do not make predictions. If you buy, size the position so a drop does not hurt, and remember that smaller tokens can be thin to trade, which widens the spread when you sell.

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Decentraland (MANA) In Canada?

Buying MANA with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Changed For Buying Decentraland (MANA) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • Coinbase launched regulated crypto derivatives for eligible Canadian investors. It is not open to ordinary retail accounts.
  • The CSA issued an amended decision for Coinbase Canada Inc.
