How And Where To Buy Arweave (AR) In Canada In 2026

Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

To buy Arweave (AR) in Canada, sign up to a CSA-registered exchange that lists it, verify your ID, deposit Canadian dollars and place the order. On my list the registered options are Kraken and Crypto.com. I would start with Kraken because it has the lower Kraken Pro fees once you are past the first buy and free Interac e-Transfer deposits; Crypto.com because it is a CSA Restricted Dealer, though its Canadian fee schedule is not published.

MEXC also lists AR but is offshore: not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators, and their terms restrict Canadian residents or are unclear, so read the labels in the table before you go near them. Wealthsimple Crypto is not named here because it publishes no public coin list I could check, and Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Shakepay do not carry AR.

I have been trading crypto in Canada since 2016, and I have tested 61 exchanges on my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada. For AR that testing narrows the field fast, because the answer depends entirely on which asset lists carry it. The table below is built from those asset lists, not from memory.

Part of my guide to how to buy crypto in Canada.

What Is Arweave (AR)?

Arweave (AR) is the fuel for a blockchain that permanently stores data, like a digital time capsule. Canadians might be drawn to its unique storage solution and staking rewards, whether you are in Vancouver or the Prairies.

I am not quoting a live price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price. Crypto is volatile, so size up the ups and downs before you jump in.

Coinbase and Crypto.com publish one global coin list, not a Canadian one. Check the coin in their Canadian app before you fund an account.

These are the platforms on my scorecard whose asset lists include AR, in my fixed order. Bull Bitcoin, Bitcoin Well and Shakepay are left out because they do not offer AR. Wealthsimple Crypto is left out because it publishes no public coin list I could check. Bitbuy and Coinsquare are left out because new accounts are being folded into Robinhood.

How Much Does It Cost To Buy $500 Of Arweave (AR) In Canada?

What A $500 AR Buy Costs, Platform By Platform
PlatformPublished Cost On $500
KrakenKraken Pro taker 0.80% is $4.00 (maker 0.40% is $2.00); Instant Buy 1% is $5.00 plus spread
MEXCMaker 0% is $0, taker 0.05% is $0.25 (base tier)
Crypto.comAdvertised as low as 0.08% maker (about $0.40) and 0.18% taker (about $0.90); Canadian app schedule not published

These are the published fee rules applied to a $500 buy. The spread, the gap between the quoted price and the market price, is extra on any platform that does not state it, and it is wider on thinly traded coins. Offshore platforms show lower headline fees, but they cannot take Canadian dollars and Canada is restricted in their terms.

How Do You Buy Arweave (AR) In Canada Step By Step?

  1. Pick Kraken. It is the first CSA-registered exchange in the table above that lists AR. Open it from the button in the table.
  2. Sign up and verify. Upload a government-issued ID and a selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification can take up to 24 hours.
  3. Deposit Canadian dollars. Interac e-Transfer deposits are free on Kraken (minimum CAD 5, up to CAD 10,000 per transaction).
  4. Buy AR. Search for AR in the app, use a market order for speed or a limit order if you want to name your price, and read the fee preview before you confirm.
  5. Send long-term holdings to your own wallet. Try a small test transfer first. My best crypto wallets for Canadians list covers the options.

You can use a credit or debit card if you want AR as quickly as possible, but cards usually cost more than Interac e-Transfer, and Canadian banks sometimes block them.

How Do You Store Arweave (AR)?

Keeping your coins safe is something you must do if you do not want to risk them being stolen. An exchange holds your keys for you, so for anything you plan to keep, use a private crypto wallet. Choose one of the crypto wallets I reviewed, and check that it supports AR before you send anything, because not every wallet supports every coin or network. Then withdraw AR from the exchange you bought it on to your wallet. Send a small test amount first.

How Do You Sell Arweave (AR) In Canada?

To sell, go to the exchange where you bought it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then click sell. You can swap AR for another cryptocurrency, or sell it for Canadian dollars if the exchange offers that pair, and then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees and limits differ by platform. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Arweave (AR) In Canada?

Buying AR with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

How Does Arweave (AR) Work?

The Arweave protocol is peer to peer and runs over HTTP, so standard HTTP clients can talk to a node. Transactions can carry data, AR token transfers, or both. According to the official HTTP API documentation, fees are dynamic and depend on the size of the data and network conditions, and AR is measured in winstons, where 1 AR equals one trillion winstons. Transactions are authenticated with RSA-PSS signatures, and wallet addresses come from a SHA-256 hash of the public key. The default HTTP API port is 1984.

The short version: it is the token for a network built to store data permanently, like a digital time capsule. You pay fees in AR to put data on the network.

What Are The Documented Risks Of Arweave (AR)?

  • Permanence cuts both ways. Data stored on the network is meant to stay. Do not upload anything private or anything you may need to remove.
  • Variable fees. The documentation describes dynamic pricing, so storage costs move with data size and network conditions.
  • Key handling. Addresses derive from your public key, and the matching private key signs everything. Lose it and the funds are gone.
  • Narrow Canadian choice. Only a few exchanges on my list carry AR, so compare them in the table.

Which Wallets Support AR?

I could not find an official wallet-support page for Arweave that I could verify on the day I checked, so I am not going to hand you a list of wallets and hope. Start from the project's own website and docs, which name the wallets and networks the team supports, and then check the wallet vendor's own support page for the same token. If a wallet vendor does not list AR, treat that as a no until it says otherwise.

The general rule holds for any altcoin: a token lives on one or more specific blockchains, and your wallet has to support the blockchain, not only the ticker. Two tokens with similar names can sit on different networks, and wrapped or bridged copies exist for some coins. Confirm the exact network before you buy, because the exchange's withdrawal screen only offers the networks it supports.

How Do You Move AR From An Exchange To A Wallet?

Arweave is its own network with its own address format, so you need an Arweave wallet address, not an Ethereum one. Copy it from the wallet and confirm on the exchange that the withdrawal network is Arweave.

  1. Pick the wallet first. Open the wallet you plan to use and confirm that it lists AR and the network you will receive it on. A wallet that cannot see the token will not destroy it, but you may need to add a custom token or network before the balance shows.
  2. Match the network. The withdrawal screen on the exchange asks which network to use. It must be the same network your wallet address belongs to. Sending on the wrong network is the most common way people lose coins.
  3. Copy the address from the wallet. Use the copy button, not retyping, and compare the first and last characters after you paste it. If the official docs for the coin mention a memo or tag, add it exactly.
  4. Send a small test amount. Withdrawal fees are charged per transfer, so a test costs a little extra, but it is cheaper than a mistake.
  5. Wait for confirmations, then send the rest. Check the balance in the wallet itself, and look the transaction up on the network's block explorer if it is slow.

For a list of storage options I have reviewed, see my best crypto wallets for Canadians. Write your recovery phrase on paper, never photograph it, and never type it into a website.

What Changed For Buying Arweave (AR) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Kraken republished its fee schedule, with Pro spot starting at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker.
  • MEXC last updated its User Agreement, which lists Canada as a prohibited jurisdiction.
  • The CSA issued its Restricted Dealer decision for Crypto.com's Canadian entity, Foris DAX CAN ULC.
