The Nano X adds Bluetooth, iPhone support and a battery for USD 99, while the USD 69 Nano S Plus has the newer-grade EAL6+ chip but only works with desktop and Android. Both are still on sale as the Nano Classic range.
Ledger Nano X Vs Ledger Nano S Plus: Which Is Better For Canadians?
Neither the Ledger Nano X nor the Ledger Nano S Plus is on my top 7 list, so the choice comes down to the features below.
What Happens If You Lose Your Ledger Nano X Or Ledger Nano S Plus?
Ledger Nano X: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: recovery sheets; optional Ledger Recover. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 7 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-08-27 (Security Bulletins 023, 024, 025: signing-review bypasses).
Ledger Nano S Plus: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: recovery sheets; optional Ledger Recover. Which Is More Secure, Ledger Nano X Or Nano S Plus?
Here is the surprise in this pairing: the cheaper device has the newer-grade chip. The Nano S Plus uses an ST33K1M5 secure element certified Common Criteria EAL6+, while the Nano X uses a CC EAL5+ secure element. Ledger's own page for the Nano X does not rate it EAL6+.
Both run Ledger's closed-source OS, both back up to a 24 word recovery phrase on recovery sheets, and both are covered by Ledger's optional paid Ledger Recover service where available, which depends on the country of your ID. In January 2025 Ledger fixed Security Bulletin 021, a bootloader flaw that could brick a device, in Nano X firmware 2.4.2; the S Plus is not in that fix list in my notes. In August 2026 Ledger published bulletins 023 to 025 about three bugs that could let a compromised computer or crafted transaction make the device show one thing while signing another, and it shipped hardened apps from August 13, Secure SDK v26.6.1 on August 21 and Ethereum app 1.22.3 on August 25 (bulletin 023). Ledger has no evidence of exploitation against users.
Ledger also has the long-running items: a 2020 shop database leak of about 272,000 customers' details, and the December 2023 Connect Kit attack on dApp users. No Nano seed was drained through a device in the incidents I tracked.
Which Is Easier To Use?
The Nano X has a 1.1 inch monochrome OLED at 128 x 64 and two buttons, plus Bluetooth, which means it works with the Ledger Wallet app on iPhone (iOS 15+) and Android (10+) as well as desktop. It is 72 x 18.6 x 11.7 mm, weighs 34 g, runs for up to 5 hours on its battery, and uses a USB-A to USB-C cable. The Nano S Plus has the same 1.1 inch screen and two buttons, but no Bluetooth: it runs over USB-C to desktop and Android only, and does not work with iOS. It is smaller at 62.4 x 17.4 x 8.2 mm and 21 g with no battery.
So the real question is your phone. On an iPhone, the Nano S Plus is out. On Android or desktop, they behave almost the same and both have a small screen with a multi-step process, as Ledger describes it.
Which Supports More Coins?
Identical on paper: 500+ coins directly in Ledger Wallet and thousands more through 50+ compatible wallets. Neither has an advantage here.

The Nano S Plus is USD 69 and the Nano X is USD 99, both US shop prices, and neither CA$ price was captured. Ledger lists both under its "Nano Classic" range as still on sale, and says the newer Nano Gen5 now sits above the Nano X (undated on its page). Canadian buyers can use Ledger's Canadian storefront or Canada Computers, Best Buy Canada and Amazon Canada. The extra USD 30 buys you Bluetooth, an iPhone option and a battery, but a slightly older chip.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Both receive from any exchange as an ordinary address. Coinbase's "Sending to myself" tick, Kraken's Travel Rule pop-up above CA$1,000 and Newton's Address Book are the steps to know. Moving coins to your own wallet is not a disposition per the CRA. See crypto taxation in Canada and my Kraken review.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose the Nano S Plus if you use a desktop or Android, want the cheapest Ledger and the newer-grade EAL6+ chip.
Both are fine for a first purchase, but remember that a hardware wallet only protects you if the recovery phrase stays offline and private. Ledger never asks for it, and neither do the exchanges you buy from.
