Trezor is dedicated hardware, and I am anchoring on the Safe 7, which stacks three chips from three vendors (the auditable TROPIC01, an EAL6+ Optiga secure element and an STM32U5 microcontroller) and publishes open-source firmware with signed binaries. Exodus has no secure element because it is not a device. Its keys live wherever your computer or phone keeps them.

That gap is the whole story. Malware on a laptop can reach a software wallet. It cannot sign from a Safe 7 without you pressing approve on the device's 2.5 inch touchscreen. Exodus itself says on its site that you store your own recovery phrase and that a lost phrase may mean lost keys.

The records are lopsided in a way that does not favour Trezor, so here they are. For Trezor: Ledger Donjon's June 3, 2026 laser attack on the TROPIC01 chip (needs possession, chip decapsulation and lab gear; Trezor says PIN, funds and backup are not exposed), the ShipMonk fulfilment breach on August 13, 2026, and a September 9, 2026 phishing email sent from its address after its email vendor Brevo was breached. No devices or keys were touched in the last two. For Exodus, I found no incident on a primary page and no confirmed audit either, so silence is not a clean bill of health.

Exodus, by a distance. You install it, write down the phrase and you are swapping inside the app. Swaps start from a 0.5% rate with third-party fees on top. It has desktop and mobile apps, plus Exodus Pay and the Exodus Card. The Safe 7 needs a USB-C cable or Bluetooth, and Trezor Suite on Android, Mac, Windows or Linux, with full iOS compatibility on this model. It supports 12, 20 and 24 word backups, an Advanced Shamir multi-share option and a passphrase.

Here is the part many people miss: you do not have to pick. Exodus supports Ledger and Trezor hardware inside the app, so you can keep Exodus as the friendly screen and Trezor as the thing that signs.

The Exodus number is a marketing claim I cannot verify, and a wallet that "supports" a million assets does not mean you can safely buy a million assets. How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?

Both are just destinations. Coinbase asks if you are sending to self-custody and has a "Sending to myself" box. Kraken shows a Travel Rule pop-up from CAD 1,000, and Newton makes you save and verify the address with MFA before withdrawing. Choose Exodus for small amounts you move often, where convenience matters more than isolation. Choose the Trezor Safe 7 for savings you do not touch weekly, since it is my number one pick for a reason.
