The live price of 1 Bitcoin (BTC) in Canadian dollars is shown below, taken from Kraken’s the BTC/CAD market and refreshed every five minutes. The price you pay on a Canadian exchange is close to it plus that platform’s fee or spread, so a buy on NDAX (flat 0.20%) or Kraken Pro (0.40% maker, 0.80% taker) costs less than an app that charges 1% to 2% on top.

Why Is The Bitcoin Price Different On Each Canadian Exchange?

Every platform runs its own order book or quotes its own price. Three things move the number you see: how much CAD trading happens on that market, the spread the platform builds into its quote, and any trading fee charged on top. Apps that advertise no fees usually earn on a wider spread, which is why the same BTC can cost noticeably more in one app than on an exchange with a published order book.

Coins quoted against the US dollar are converted to CAD at the live USD/CAD rate, so the exchange rate moves a Canadian price too, even on a quiet day for Bitcoin itself.

Where Does This Price Come From?

The price, the 24-hour and 7-day change and the chart come from Kraken’s public market data for the BTC/CAD market, a CSA-registered exchange, cached for five minutes. If Kraken is unreachable, the page falls back to CoinPaprika’s CAD quote. The figures are for information, not a quote you can trade at.

Do You Pay Tax When Bitcoin Goes Up In Value?

Not while you hold it. The Canada Revenue Agency taxes a disposition: selling, swapping it for another coin, or spending it. Each one is a capital gain (or loss) or business income depending on how you trade, so keep a record of every buy and sell. My crypto tax guide for Canadians explains the rules.

What Changed For Buying Bitcoin In Canada In October 2026?

  • : Wealthsimple updated its crypto fee schedule to a flat 0.5% plus spread, with Active Trader tiers down to 0%.
  • : Coinbase launched regulated crypto derivatives for eligible Canadian investors; ordinary retail accounts are not included.
  • : Robinhood closed its purchase of WonderFi and began moving Bitbuy and Coinsquare customers to the Robinhood app.

Yes. Bitcoin is divisible, and Canadian exchanges let you buy a small fraction of a BTC, often from a few dollars.
