Our top pick for Canadians: CoinbaseSign Up

None of the exchanges on my ranked list carries Alpaca Finance (ALPACA). I checked the asset lists of Coinbase, BloFin, Kraken, Newton, NDAX, BTCC, MEXC, Bitunix, Crypto.com and the Bitcoin-only services, and ALPACA is not on any of them. Wealthsimple Crypto publishes no public coin list, so I cannot confirm it either way.

Until a registered Canadian exchange lists it, the honest answer is to wait, or to use a decentralized exchange at your own risk. My guide on how to buy cryptocurrency in Canada covers the registered options for the coins that are available.

I have been trading crypto in Canada since 2016, and I have tested 61 exchanges on my YouTube channel, OCryptoCanada. For ALPACA that testing narrows the field fast, because the answer depends entirely on which asset lists carry it. The table below is built from those asset lists, not from memory.

What Is Alpaca Finance (ALPACA)?

Alpaca Finance (ALPACA) is the core of a DeFi protocol on BNB Smart Chain and Fantom, powering leveraged yield farming and lending for big returns. Canadians might be hooked on its high-yield potential and staking perks, whether you are in Vancouver or out on the Prairies.

DeFi tokens like ALPACA can be volatile, so check its market trends and the project's current status before diving in.

I am not quoting a live price here, since it would be out of date within hours. Check the order screen of your platform for the current CAD price. Crypto is volatile, so size up the ups and downs before you jump in.

I only list exchanges whose published asset lists contain the ticker. Check the project's own site for its current status before you buy anything, because small tokens are sometimes delisted or wound down.

How Do You Store Alpaca Finance (ALPACA)?

Keeping your coins safe is something you must do if you do not want to risk them being stolen. An exchange holds your keys for you, so for anything you plan to keep, use a private crypto wallet. Choose one of the crypto wallets I reviewed, and check that it supports ALPACA before you send anything, because not every wallet supports every coin or network. Then withdraw ALPACA from the exchange you bought it on to your wallet. Send a small test amount first.

How Do You Sell Alpaca Finance (ALPACA) In Canada?

To sell, go to the exchange where you bought it. If your coins are in a wallet, send them back to the exchange first, then click sell. You can swap ALPACA for another cryptocurrency, or sell it for Canadian dollars if the exchange offers that pair, and then withdraw to your bank account. Withdrawal fees and limits differ by platform. My guide on how to sell or cash out crypto in Canada has the full steps.

Do You Pay Tax When You Buy Alpaca Finance (ALPACA) In Canada?

Buying ALPACA with Canadian dollars is not itself a taxable event. Selling it, swapping it for another coin or spending it can be. The CRA says that, depending on your activities, you may realize business income (or loss) or a capital gain (or loss), and the two are reported differently. Record the date and CAD value of every buy, sale and swap. See my crypto taxation guide and how to report your crypto taxes.

What Happened To Alpaca Finance (ALPACA)?

Alpaca Finance was a leveraged yield farming protocol on BNB Chain that launched during the 2021 DeFi boom. In late May 2025 the team announced it would wind the protocol down. CoinDesk reported the announcement, dated May 26 to 27, 2025, and quotes the team calling a graceful and secure wind-down the most responsible course of action. Users could withdraw their assets until December 31, 2025, and that date has passed.

The reasons given were plain: the protocol had been running at a loss for more than two years, its revenue depended on how much people used it, acquisition talks had failed, and Binance had delisted the ALPACA token in late April 2025. A fair-launch project with no venture backing has no big treasury to wait out a slow market.

Should You Buy Alpaca Finance (ALPACA) Now?

I do not think a buy page can honestly say yes. A protocol in wind-down means the products that gave the token its purpose, yield farming, lending and automated vaults, are being closed. That does not make the token worthless by definition, but it does mean you would be holding something whose project has announced it is stopping. If you see ALPACA offered on an exchange, read what that exchange says about the token before you deposit.

None of the exchanges on my ranked list carries ALPACA, which fits the picture. Small DeFi tokens do get delisted, and when a token is only on a decentralized exchange you take on contract risk, network fees and zero customer support.

What Are The Documented Risks Of Alpaca Finance (ALPACA)?

  • Wind-down. The team announced the shutdown of every product. Check the official channels for what, if anything, remains.
  • Delisting. Binance delisted the token in April 2025, which cut liquidity.
  • Leveraged strategies. The protocol was built around borrowing to amplify farming returns, which is a risk-amplifying design by nature.
  • Dead links and fake sites. After a project shuts down, copycat sites and fake "migration" pages are common. Only use links from the project's own announcements.

Which Wallets Support ALPACA?

I could not find an official wallet-support page for Alpaca Finance that I could verify on the day I checked, so I am not going to hand you a list of wallets and hope. Start from the project's own website and docs, which name the wallets and networks the team supports, and then check the wallet vendor's own support page for the same token. If a wallet vendor does not list ALPACA, treat that as a no until it says otherwise.

The general rule holds for any altcoin: a token lives on one or more specific blockchains, and your wallet has to support the blockchain, not only the ticker. Two tokens with similar names can sit on different networks, and wrapped or bridged copies exist for some coins. Confirm the exact network before you buy, because the exchange's withdrawal screen only offers the networks it supports.

How Do You Move ALPACA From An Exchange To A Wallet?

If you still hold ALPACA on an exchange and want to move it, confirm the network with the exchange first. The protocol ran on BNB Chain, so a BNB Chain compatible wallet is the likely home, but verify before you send anything.

  1. Pick the wallet first. Open the wallet you plan to use and confirm that it lists ALPACA and the network you will receive it on. A wallet that cannot see the token will not destroy it, but you may need to add a custom token or network before the balance shows.
  2. Match the network. The withdrawal screen on the exchange asks which network to use. It must be the same network your wallet address belongs to. Sending on the wrong network is the most common way people lose coins.
  3. Copy the address from the wallet. Use the copy button, not retyping, and compare the first and last characters after you paste it. If the official docs for the coin mention a memo or tag, add it exactly.
  4. Send a small test amount. Withdrawal fees are charged per transfer, so a test costs a little extra, but it is cheaper than a mistake.
  5. Wait for confirmations, then send the rest. Check the balance in the wallet itself, and look the transaction up on the network's block explorer if it is slow.

For a list of storage options I have reviewed, see my best crypto wallets for Canadians. Write your recovery phrase on paper, never photograph it, and never type it into a website.

What Changed For Buying Alpaca Finance (ALPACA) In Canada In October 2026?

  • Robinhood closed its WonderFi acquisition, and Coinsquare customers are being moved in phases to the Robinhood app, so Coinsquare and Bitbuy are not options for new accounts.

I do not give investment advice. ALPACA is a volatile asset, and prices can swing hard in either direction. Only risk what you are okay losing, and do your own research.
